This is a rare drop for a quest that involves a treasure hunt. Murloc's north of the Gold Coast Quary will drop this at around 4%. The numbers on Wowhead are skewed due to the fact that there are a lot of Murlocs south of Gold Coast Quary that DON'T drop this item.

I spent 4 hours grinding the murlocs until I finally got this drop. This drop is not a shared loot, which means only one groupmember can obtain it if it drops.

Worst Drop Item Ever, have been up and down that coastline doing the quests from the lighthouse 3 differnet times with it only dropping once - while I was in a group and someone else got it :( The least Blizzard could do is make it a group drop so that everyone could get it if it finaly drops.

This quest is for both horde and alliance, though it drops in a lowbie alliance area.

This quest is obtainable by horde.

I went up and down the coastline for a few times with my bloodelf killing every murloc in sight.
Eventually I found it, and now I have Captain Sander's shirt equipped.

Completed the quest on Neptulon 2008-03-04.

my friend's and my study shows that the raiders actually have a 5.6% drop rate for this map, plus they are easy to kill

Here's another hint..try killing the murloc's on the wrecked ship. Mine dropped quickly, from killing those.

Just farmed myself one of these, I started killing every murloc on site starting at the very bottom of the beach, then slowly went up.

It Finally Dropped north of the Jangolode mine off a Minor Oracle :D

SO, remove the apostrophe and it retains the possession without contracting a word which would make zero sense given the context and prior grammatical basis.

All of this assumes that it was important enough to even make a comment about in the first place, which it wasn't. Since apparently some don't see the humor in SpectralDaisy's (notice the appropriate possessive apostrophe) comment, I'll make it simple. The OP was making a post about grammar errors in Blizz's work and then made a very minor error in their own work. See? Get it? We all make mistakes. lol.

I started to farm murdalocks in search of the map at the southern end of The Longshore. Cleared the beach all the way up to the northern end. Then back south again. I finally got it at the level of the mine. A Murloc Netter dropped it for me. Very low drop rate.

When I was leveling an alt I got this in less than 20 kills. Then when I was farming for it for Loremaster (and the murloc eyes for the stew quest) I got it in less than 10. I may have just been lucky but it's possible the drop rate was increased sometime in 3.2-3.3?

Took me about 150 kills to get it to drop.

Working on Loremaster with my Horde. Don't stop until you get this to drop as its 4 quests...very easy once you get the drop. Not to mention the 3 by the lighthouse at the southern end, 7 easy quests that took about 30 minutes.

I got my map off a mob right next to the chest where you turn it in...seriously, i didn't even have to move after I looted the map. Didn't plan that or anything, just happened that way. Took about 10 minutes of farming up and down coast.

This drop is weird. 12 Alliance toons have leveled through Westfall and I'd never seen this item. After looking for Loremaster quests and reading about how rare it was I headed to (55,9) to settle into a LONG grind. I killed 5 mobs and there it was. Hope I have this kinda luck in Stratholme.

The drop is rather low as people above claims. Cleared the beach 1.5 times and finaly it dropped. Thank god I'm a caster.

Edit: Oh I forgot, the whole thing took me about 1.5hrs and recieves 4 quests that counts towards Loremaster. The quests are basically: "Go to A and then to B". Quite easy, happy loring.

I'm going to say whoa and be astonished like everyone else. Was levelling a mage in Westfall and I got it first drop... Crazy. Especially since on a different character I had to grind for 7 hours to get it.

Haha my luck seems to be awesome today... was preparing myself for a massive grind (having already grinded the quest item drop in Elwynn of Defias earlier today) but I got this first kill! I'd love to be able to say that the drop rate is high but I guess I just have good luck, today anyway.

This dropped for me after the Shattering, so it is still obtainable. Not only that, but it dropped for me on a character who had already done the chain. She was able to do the entire chain again, and now has two of the lovely Captain Sanders' Sash!

(Yes I know I can't wear two at once, but I think I'll keep both as a reminder that this is doable. =D)

I've done this on at least 4 characters, maybe more, you're bound to get it within killing 10, though it's usually one of your first two kills, I've never had to do more than 5.

As of patch 4 (the Shattering a.k.a. Cataclysm) the drop rate for this item has been bumped up considerably. This item now drops at common rate.

Anyone looking to complete this quest now, ignore where it says that it is alliance only now. The old quest was for both sides and marked obsolete but it is still for both sides. Most people do this quest to get his shirt since you dont see people with them too often but dont worry, wowhead just has the quest marked wrong.

The experience is worth it, as well as the items you get at the very end. they are nothing great, but once you get the map, you just have to run to about 3 Locations . Each location gives you 575 exp .one is on the beach by the boat and anchor, next is by a Chimney beside the road that the Defias Messegner walks on, next is a windmill up near the mines but its by the shoreline. Then lastly you turn west from the Windmill and go out into the water to a small island for the treasure.
The final treasure is captain Sanders shirt ( no stats ) Capt sanders sash ( some stats) , Booty bag ( 8 slot bag) and 1 silver bar , plus 1150 exp at completion.

The first clue, Captain Sander's Foot Locker is at 25,47.

The second clue, A Battered Barrel is at 40,47.

The third clue, Captain Sander's Jug is at 40,17.

The final clue, Captain Sander's Chest is at 26,16.

I finished the quest but is there another quest including using the 3 leftover mappieces? In that case where, who to talk to and what level need i be? There is no sell price on the pieces, as a regular quest item.

Tidehunters do NOT have a 20% drop rate. Look at the number of kills next to the percentage. When the number of kills is much lower than it should be it means the data is somehow invalid.

The droprate is low, but that's because you should do "The Coast Isn't Clear", you have to kill 30 murlocs for that quest, and thus you'll more likely kill something like 50. Then you are much more likely to get the drop.

Blizzard hasn't lost their mind, they just make some quest more rare to get so the game is fun for your second and third characters.

i think this quest must be relatively new. the drop rate percentages are so low because the map didnt drop before the quest was added, and all those extra kills throw off the percentage a lot.
both times i did it, it didnt take me long to find. i think passe's percentages are for one drop, not an average of all drops.

this shouldn't be a level 16 quest when u have to kill 4 or 5 guys at a time who are level 15-17.

I got mine in 10 minutes, party mate got his 20 minutes later. Wrapped up the whole shebang in about 40 minutes total.

Remeber thott only reports on items drops etc for people using an interface that updates Thott.

I got this drop on 2 diff chars the same day and killed less than 10 murlocks each time.

you can do it as a horde if you want to go all the way to westfall coast, i did it after my friend and i were doing the coast isn't clear. he got it, we finished the coast isn't clear and his treasure map. a day later i decided i want to do the quest to and the murlocs dropped it within 5 or 10 kills, the drop is much easier than you think

It's all a matter of luck, some people will get them quick some won't. It's the same princible as a collection quest that isn't a 100% drop, I have had party mates complete those quests before I get my first item. As far as the bugged Murloc, it probably isn't a data bug, the level 15 tidehunter is probably just a rarer spawn also, if you see one kill it quickly.

A murloc oracle dropped the map as soon as i was done w "The coast isn't clear" quest.. very lucky! The murloc was standing next to the shipwreck near the lighthouse..

I played through the entire quest to the final treasure chest and it would not open. I got all the rest of it but no final prize, or experience points but the quest is gone out of my log as being completed. I hope no-one else has this problem.

It's increasingly obvious to me that it doesn't matter where you are along the coastline, nor what type of murloc you kill, you still have the same low probability of getting this map. I acquired 3 pearls, over 30 clam meat, 4 greens and tons of vendor trash, 2 dozen murloc eyes, and 20 slimy murloc skins by the time I finally got the map off of a low level netter on the "easy" end of the coastline. Have empty bags and lots of patience if you want to look for this thing.

I went to the really easy Murlocs at the top after awhile, and all the ghost captain's quests were done, took maybe 20-40 murlocs to drop one, found Slark twice, and Brak (Think that's his name.) once.

1. Go to the beach in Westfall (it's on the West!).

2. Kill the Murlocs that are easy for your level.

3. They drop a Treasure Map.

4. Find the first clue, a Locker at these coords: 25, 47.

Hint: The Murlocs at the northern end of the beach tend to have this Map...

I love this quest. I got the map on my first venture into Westfall with my first character--this was also my first experience of a drop starting a quest instead of an NPC. All the location hunting gave me something fun to do as part of an evening soloing--it was a quirky little shot at some XP that didn't involve killing anything and hadn't already been done by six million people. yes some people are getting this map quickly. i have killed well over 100 murlocs at all locations on the beach and haven't gotten it on my warlock. my rogue got it before she was done with the lighthouse quests : /

Horde can certainly get this quest. Got the map after an hour of farming, took the quest, completed it and got the rewards (against a backdrop of guildies and friends insisting to me that it was Alliance-only, lol :)

Don't believe the databases and wikis telling you you can't do it - you just need to farm the map.

I think I randomly picked it off some Defias guys I was killing for one of those "kill 15 of A and 15 of B" quests.

I'm gonna do it now, hopefully there's something of worth to be had at the end.

I had a great time doing this as i did it at level 35 with a total pirate out fit including a pirate hat.
me and 2 of me guild members did this as an RP event for our guild.
it was fab. even though the reward wasnt great for my level i am still wareing the shirt :D

I got the first part from killing the Murloc's at the coast ends in the Northeast part. (6m)

Alright, this quest took 400-ish murlocs to get. How do I know? I kept the eyes and skins.
(FYI - I hunted the lower level murlocs, I started from level 18 and ended it at midway to 21).

So yes, this quest will take a while, luckily for me - I'm an alchemist, the shore has good amounts of plants. Also a lot of materials for cooking.
I ended up running into 3 rares, twice the murloc on top of the map and once at the bottom.

So whoever is having trouble getting this, all I can say is...

Take a coffee or tea, and let the grinding begin!

Level 60 warrior. Cleared the beach all the way up south to north, killing all the murlocs I could find, even in the water and on the ships.

No treasure map.

took me about 30 mins with atleast 100 murlocs killed if you're leveling dont waste your time on this just do the quests mobs and get your hopes up if you're lucky

This is sellable on the Auction House, but you cannot put it in your bag if you have already completed the quest. I found it on the AH for a very low price and was going to try to flip it, but now cannot get it out of the mail.

Can confirm that it drops for horde as of January 2, 2023 in Classic era.
I killed around 200 mobs to get it.
