FYI: This book can be sold on the AH for double what you pay from the NPC in BootyBay. On my server some people are actually trying to sell it for 6g!! I think this is a bit much (seeing Horde can boat to bootybay from Ratchet easily). buyout price of 2g is resonable IMO on the AH.

Location of the NPC to buy this from: If you follow the wooden ramps all the way around to your right from the boat and keep to the lowest deck you will find old man heming in the last building:)

I have tried numerous times to go and get my fishing up.. but always snooze when i start fishing its like its got a mental beaming device that automatically starts shutting down your higher brain functions and then finally tells you to sleeep.... your doing something boring.. sleep.... lol.. well Ty for the insight.. i'll be attempting this again soon.

I soloed this quest (with the help of this site and some people who gave me directions) as a L24 dark elf priest. Some people call this a L30 quest but I doubt I could do this easily at that level.

This is how I did it.

Starting in Auberdine, I took the boat to Menethil Harbor. (Talk to Flightmaster.) From there I ran west to the river, through the Wetlands, and when the road intersected soutn, I followed it, more or less along the river.

This brings you to Dun Algaz and the tunnel. If you have died already, Westfall will be very hard and you probably won't be able to get as far as I did when trying to run past mobs in Stranglethorn.

But you can get through the next few zones easily. Exploring and talking to flightmasters will be beneficial anyway.

The tunnel will wind around, opening occasionally, with a few mobs and will eventually put you into Loch Moran, at about (25,9). (Flightmaster.) Follow the path down and back to the right to (18,16) where there will be an entry to another set of tunnels.

You will end up in Dun Morogh. You need to find Ironforge, at about (46,41) - that is the end of the Gates of Ironforge, and there is another set of tunnels in the path. Once in Ironforge (Flightmaster), find Tinker Town on your map and enter the instanced (sort of) Deeprun Tram.

The Tram will take you to Stormwind City (Flightmaster). Leave Stormwind towards the Elwyn Forest. Run to (20,80). You are headed to Westfall.

Once in Westfall, follow the river (the one you just crossed) south. There are mountains, and a tower right near the river where you are squeezed to a single passage point - and there were the first mobs on this trip that killed me. At this point, I took off all damagable armor and weapons.

You will have to swim south for a good ways, and you will probably be swarmed by fish. My strategy was to cast shield and regen and Elune's Grace (which seemed useless) once attacked and to Fade between attacks. Sometimes I could only get a few feet between deaths, most of which was based on rez distance from the body. But I kept working south. I tried to go behind a camp and made good distance for a while, until I ran into L77 mobs. That was probably the worse until I rezzed out of aggro range, after three times.

At about (38,12) in Stranglethorn Vale, a path starts. I missed the beginning of the path and worked through the village (dying a lot) and picked up the path at about (41,22). The bridge is safe, or it was for me, and I rested and cast all spells of protection before running. I have no idea if the first part of the path was safer than what I did. It almost had to be.

If I did not get swarmed, my L24 Power Word: Protection was my first weapon, and then regen, and then Psychic Scream if they were on me, but most of these mobs were immune. I'd fade if I saw anything, and sometimes if I was not in combat and didn't see anything. I only died on the road about three times, and was able to run away from a lot of stuff. I would try to repeat Protection if I lived ling enough and renew whenever it expired and I was not full. That got me past initial aggro range in a lot of cases, even if I died.

Following the road south, I ran into an opening in the rock with a very aggressive guard. I made the mistake of running past the opening and a human mob aggroed on me - and ran back and the guard killed it, making me hated by their faction. The opening is at about (29,72) in Stranglethorn, and it leads into Booty Bay.

Booty Bay has trainers, a bank, Auction House, mailbox (near the bank), a Flightmaster and the mob that sells this book. I asked in General where I should look and was told, "He's on the hill behind the town." In fact, I found him in the town over water, not on the hill. Go to the lowest level where the ramp out of the water is. Standing on the ramp, facing the town, look right. You'll see a small shack and Heming is in that shack.

My skill had been pegged at 150, and I immediately used the book, and then I tried fishing in Booty Bay. I caught almost nothing until I used a +50 bauble. (To apply the bauble, right click on the bauble so that the cursor glows, then left click on your fishing pole - the hover description of the fishing pole will change.)

Expect both Alliance and Horde in Booty Bay. I was careful not to buff anyone who was PvP flagged since I was on a non-PvP server. There is a boat that both alliance and horde can ride in Booty Bay, and I tried to get to where I could take that boat, but it was worse than getting through Stranglethorn.

I tried a lot of ways to get south - as part of this process, a L70 escorted me to Thorium Point, in Searing Gorge. He left then - and could not protect me from mobs swarming me on the way there. That was interesting but useless to me, all the mobs were L70-77. I tried lots of ways south and this was the only one that I could even find - and if there is a better way, I want to know about it.

One final comment. It costs about 10 silver to get back to Menethil Harbor from Booty Bay. and it is a really long flight. This book, while common, is not easy to get and it is time consuming to get it - even if you have a flight path. There were none for sale on my server when I checked the AH. When compared to what you can get by killing humanoids at L24 (time and money), the return is low and this book should sell for more than 2 gold.

To get to Booty Bay is easy, even from Kalimdor, did it with a lvl 12 hunter - solo. Trick is once you get to Westfall, you go to the ocean and swim down from there to Booty Bay, you see very few mobs, few if any human players, and it's easy. And as a side note, I play on PvP servers.

A route (that I did not know when I did this the first time) that would probably be better on a non-PvP server would be Ashenvale (flight points at Astraanar and Forest Song)->Barrens->Ratchet (in Barrens, FP) and then take the boat from there to Booty Bay. That boat is a "Neutral" boat so you might get ganked for taking it on a PvP server. Horde guards going to the Barrens, but there is an unguarded opening to the left as you enter - past the first hill. It looks like it used to be guarded but has been burned out. Not sure if you could make it at L12.

I tried swimming south from Menethil and that did not connect anywhere, so I presumed that ocean swimming from zone to zone was generally not allowed.

Were I already in Stormwind, I might be able to swim south from the Westfall beach at L12 (and that was a GREAT suggestion, I should have tried it even at L21 once I was in Westfall) - just avoid the murlocks on the beach and go. But if you start in Darnassus, as I did (Night Elf) you have to run the wetlands (unless there is an alternate route that I don't know about) and you'll probably need to be L20 to do that - or you'll pull crocks and slimes right on to the road. Even at L21 the slimes aggroed on me while I was on the road, although I might have been able to shield, scream (fear) and run at a lower level, but for a softie, these hit hard and will cause you problems.

My hunter ran Wetlands at L20 and drew no aggro onto the road, so maybe my priest was just really unlucky. But my hunter had no problems making the run to Stormwind from Menethil - I remembered that my Hunter had the FP in Westfall after someone summoned me to the instance there, but it seems that you can't fly from Menethil to Westfall without one or more FPs at Stormwind and/or Ironforge.

The Ratchet FP connects if you have Astrannar, and may connect all the way to Aubergine. The flight to Menethil is incredibly long, and fairly expensive. Boat to Ratchet and flight from there is cheaper and likely faster.

I learned fishing up to 225 (maxed out). Decided not to fish anymore and sold my fishing rod. Now i've decided i want to take it up again, but am unable to get the quest at Dustmallow Marsh (Nat Pagle) to get past lvl 225. I tried talking to the fishing guy in ORG but he had nothing for me (was told he would send me to Nat Pagle). So then went to Hinterlands and spoke to fishing guy there and he said to go to Nat Pagle in Dustmallow, so I did AGAIN; and he still wouldn't give me any quests. Any suggestions? I'm getting frustrated.

What are the different levels for the different fish and where can they be found? Im trying to up my fishing and today went from 150 to 175 at wetlands but it took 5 fish for each level, there has got to be a better way

The easiest way to get to the town at Booty Bay at a lower level as Alliance is to swim from Westfall. Stay in the water until you get all the way to the southern tip, then go into the cove with the island at the mouth and you're there. As long as you stay in the water, you won't (or at least, I didn't, both times I went) run into any aggros. There are high level sharks swimming around in the ocean but I only saw one once.

Old Man Heming can be found in the back corner, on the lowest level. Going in the front gate you keep to the left on the main walkway. In the back corner you'll find a shop, and he is the only NPC inside.

By the way, there are no fish in Booty Bay. You'll have to go elsewhere to earn your gold if you didn't bring it with you.

Hey guys, I had a little trouble finding this vendor, if you do, here's the quick way...

When you get to Booty Bay, you'll see the boardwalk you step onto from the boat is in the shape of a hook. Follow the hook around on the ground level boardwalk, and towards the end of it, there is a ramp on the left side that leads down. There's is a fish hook sign above the vendor's shack. Sounds easy, but MAN did I spend some time looking around this place! lol Hope this helps someone. :-)

The level of the fish are the same as the surrounding area. So go to an area that is your level or higher. Keep in mind higher you better bring the expensive baubles or you won't pull a single fish in. Get a lucky hat, better string and a sweet pole from AH and you won't have to rely on the baubles and night crawlers as much.

nowadays, oh so obsolete book.

If you have been to Ratchet in the Barrens, on Kalimdor continent,
the boat at the docks, takes you safely to Booty Bay.

Once U reach fishing 200 he also teaches Artisan fishing, which is the next step (up to 300)

Back in the old days, this was sold by Old Man Heming at a shop called "The Happy Bobber" in Booty Bay. It was on the lowest floor, literally at a lower elevation than the Port Authority Building. You know that ramp in the middle of BB that goes straight into the water? If you're in the water and you go up that ramp to get into BB, the Happy Bobber will be about 10 feet to your right.

This item might have also been available from other sources, but this is the only one that I can confirm.

You do not have to see Nat pagle in Dustwallow Marsh, just buy the book (about 1 gold) and get max level 225 fishing. I would think if you wanted a higher level fishing above 225 then see in Nat pagle. Don't forget to get the Flight path in Booty bay like I did, that is one long walk. If you are low level, avoid hidden animals and gorillas along the path way down to Booty bay, try not to stray too far off the path unless you like to die. The fishing vendor in Booty bay is on the lower level boardwalk, come out of the "shark jaw" front entrance and head down the boardwalk opposite the ship landing, keep going to the bottom boardwalk look for the fishing symbol/ icon hanging out the front door.

In Classic, the cost is 1G and requires fishing of at least 125 AND a toon level of at least 20 to learn.

I'm not sure if the above/below info is still correct: my fishing is at 125, I'm standing next to Old man Hemming but he's not selling the Bass and you. I'll just add another 10 fishing levels to see if the requirements have changed.

For those who missed it: The book is no longer needed.
The fishing trainer, Myizz Luckycatch, is one lvl up from Old man Hemming.
He can train you all the way up to artisan.
