The Zulian Defender is awesome shield for a caster who can use one, namely Shaman and Pally's. It drops off the High Priestess Jeklik (who is pretty easy to kill assuming you are in a good 20 man raid) who is either the 1st or 2nd boss in Zul'Gurub, and apparently it's drop rate is quite high. Even though the shield is blue, it ranks in the top 16 shields in the game based on item level, and is ranked 6th best for caster shammies overall (the best blue shield for either one of the classes mentioned above).

It is a brilliant shield to start out on before getting better epic ones, and i would definetly recommend going for it. It has a good model as well, which fits my Troll Shammy like a glove!

Nice stats , good armor , and it really deserves its rank on the top shields , and its nice if u want ur hero to look good and be strong , i combined it with Fiery Retributor https://www.wowhead.com/cata/item=19968 and evryone looks at my paladin :)

With Zul'Gurub being removed in Cataclysm, I really hope Blizz puts in some new shields with this model. RP-wise, it's pretty much the best shield I've ever seen for a troll. (And I can't seem to make it drop for mine!)

Got this from High Priestess Jeklik(sp?) on the first day it came out. I'd have to say this is the sickest looking shield for a shaman. They love us shams!

For every shaman who has said that they deserve this shield and that it is for them and not a paladin... you are honestly the most dumbest lifeforms on earth. Its also very likely that most of you have no idea how to play the game either, because perhaps you can tell me. . .

when this shield drops, how often is there a shaman and paladin in the same group?
didnt think so you imbeciles, the shield is for both classes.. if the shield drops in the horde, then by all means, Shamans, roll for it..
if it drops in an alliance run.. then who else is going to take it other than the paladin.

So to reiterate, its for both classes! Sure there are better shields for both, but hey... there arent that many that can beat it.

I'm guessing however that most of the shamans posting here are just yanking your bone to extract the (alliance) people who can't tell if something is sarcasm without a big red Sarcasm stamp on it. (Dunno how to make the text red, if it's even possible here)
I'll however agree that the graphics suit shamans better, was still cool first time I saw it tho, which was on a paladin.

I'm a lvl 60 Paladin.. got this shield last night... and I 100% agree it was meant to be a shaman shield just from design alone. But hey, it was an upgrade and <3 that INT and Stamina. =)

Yaay! They fixed the "Skin" of this shield. Its still not the same skin as it used to be but better then the last one :P. Thanks Blizz!

why r pallys and shammies arguing about who this shield is better suited for? since shammys r horde only and pallys r alliance and last time i checked horde and alliance cant raid together. So, u wont have to roll against the other class on this item so STFU

paladins do look like retards with this shield, and shaman... look like shaman. however, that doesn't matter, as you guys aren't taking anything from each other, so let the paladin have it if he's so inclined to take it.

Horde > Alliance still

It's amazing how about 5 people who previously posted here think that they're revealing some incredible new information about shamans and Paladins not being able to roll on the same loot in parties. The people that say things like "Paladins shouldn't be able to roll" are just expressing horde/shaman pride and/or saying how the looks don't match up with a Paladins looks.

the post above me is right. i've never rolled and ally, and i hate paladins above all things in WoW, but its still fair for a pally to roll on this because, geuss what?, THERE ARE NO SHAMANS ON THE ALLIANCE.

This shield actually clashes with the banana shoulders...I'd like the look better with the Soulforge ones than I would with LF. Still, it is a nice shield...what it does go well with is the Zulian Scepter of Rites.

I acctually think this is a DECENT shield for warriors, NOT saying man this thing pwns for warriors and i think any guilds MT should have it, But if no pally (or shaman) needed this and a warrior had a crappy shield this wouldnt be bad decent block some stam decent armor. Of course hakkar's is much better for warriors as well as the draconian deflector for drakk in UBRS but if some how a warrrior in the ZG group had a crap shield this isnt bad really.

What really makes you idiots look like noobs is the fact that you are basing "Whom the sheild is better for" on the GRAPHIC that is given to the item. Do you think that Nefarious' black drake claw looks very "Alliancey " - NO -. That's what really burns my ass is that you are basing who this is better for on how the sheild looks. This sheild is VERY GOOD for both Shaman and Paladin, and I cant see how you idiots this is better for one than the other. When you take in the fact that if your group is ANY good at ALL the Paladin will NOT be tanking and really should never be, unless in a very tight pinch. And on the Shaman side, fact is that you basically become a heal/totem bot inevitabley, so its good for a Shaman too.

And to that other IDIOT up there: If you bid DKP for that on a warrior I would sure hope you quit WoW very shortly after

Tbh I don't find this much better than Gizlock's from Mauradon. 10 Less stam which I couldn't care less about, 1 more int, no spirit, but 4 mana / 5 sec. Zulian could be better for PvP I suppose, but Sacred Protector is just about the same thing just with no spirit. So what's left is the tiny increase in armor on it and its looks.

My two cents.

Pre-1.10, this thing was HUGE... almost awkward, but awesome nonetheless... but as of 1.10 this thing is TINY. Nothing has changed with the stats, but I personally call NERF for size. :P

a troll shaman got it. he was lvl 55 and it was his first visit, first time it dropped for us, and the other 19 people in the riad was lvl 60's who have been to ZG quite a few times now.. lucky shaman bastard.

looks awsome though, especially on a troll. wasting the looks of this on a tauren would be terrible!

i wonder when this thing will drop... its really embarassing: my shaman wears skyfury helmet, t1 gloves, shoulders, the aurastone hammer, but still is on a GREEN shield.... looks SO crappy =/ after like 15 zul raids this thing dropped once, but not for me -.-

NERFED. In this case, size definitely matters ;-) Stats aren't all that great. Not bad, but not great. I'd rather have the Observor's Shield for more intellect.

Yeah, this thing used to look huge when I first started.

I saw it on a Paladin who was also using an Aurastone Hammer with a Judgement crown and with a mix of Field Marshal/Marshal and Lawbringer if I recall (He atleast had the PVP shoulders), he looked so bad ass I was determined to get his gear some day. Now the shield looks... ugh. I'll forget using a shield to look bad ass and just use TUF, which never fails.

FIRST - they $%^& up the icon! Yes, pre 1.09(?) is was actually the Zulian Defender as an icon not that ugly crap, what now is Buru's Head Fragment shield! They screwed up! GG!

SECDOND - they nerf the size to hell! It looked perfectly good on my troll shaman, although a bit large on taurens. Now it looks like it is for a gnome or something!

What's next? Nerf of the stats or removing it from the game altogether?
We'll see in 1.11!

This definetly looks more like a shaman shield, but it has stats both a shammy and paladin would desire. Personally I think it looks like crap (as do way too many of the items in the game), but I have yet to see a better shield for shammys/pallys till Ragnaros. And of course, Ragnaros is quite the step up from ZG (yet the shield he drops also looks like crap =(
