This is super, if not excellent for a RP Blood Elf.
With herbalism it is almost your blood elf duty to have lots of stacks of this stuff and use it to control your addiction to magic.
Also sells for a nice lump of cash to other potential Blood Elves who are eager to withstand their lust for magic.
An idea is to stand behind a rock in front of Karazhan on a Saturday evening and wait. Whisper each blood elf that might pass about "ways to control the hunger". And make him spend all he's money on drugs so he can be high for a full raid night,
there might be money in this people.

This may be useful for lvl 19 caster/healer twinks actually, since it does stack with any buff or food. 10 extra spell damage/healing would make the twink a little bit stronger, just be sure to rebuff with this before it wears outand the debuff comes.

The length of time of the withdrawal varies early on, as it grows through use. I think it starts at 10 minutes, and increases by 5 each use until perhaps 20 minutes. Doesn't go very far, but it is similar to resurrection sickness in this way, except it is not based on level.

I've been using this stuff on a regular basis since BC came out, from Gruul all the way to Kil'jaeden and now to Sarth +3. 10 Spellpower is still 10 Spellpower, any Blood Elf Spellcaster would be doing themselves a disservice by not using Bloodthistle if they are trying to min/max themselves.

I'm not sure if this is entirely relevant, but as an herbalist I farmed a ton of this while leveling in Eversong Woods. Enough that my supply has lasted me until about level 33. I've noticed that sometimes, even when I have not consumed bloodthistle recently, I will get the withdrawal debuff.

I'm not sure if this is some hidden game mechanic related to my prolonged use of it or if it's just a bug of some sort.

something messed up the other day... when i was lagging REALLY bad, I tried some Bloodthistle and it wouldn't show as consumed, so I tried right clicking more and more... after a while, suddenly I HAD the buff AND debuff :(

As of 4.0 the withdrawl debuff has been changed. It is now a full 5 int penalty for 20 minutes. I guess they realized the spirit isn't a penalty anymore with low level regen changed and with 2/3rds of the casters not even caring about spirit as a stat.

Just to reiterate from other posters, this herb is still not millable, dont buy it if you plan to use it for inscription and, if you want some, ive got a few hundred to sell ya :/.

If you aren't a herbalist and don't want to buy any, you can get Bloodthistle Petals from Lord Saltheril's party if you have completed the quest he gives you: The Party Never Ends (and still have the invitation). It does the same thing, including giving you the debuff if you don't keep using it. You can only have five at a time in your backpack, unlike the herb, though; if you don't want to get Bloodthistle Withdrawal you will have to keep coming back which I guess kind of fits....

Hey,
Bloodthistle is a stand-alone reagent. You simply right click to use and you get a buff called "Bloodthistle" which gives +10 dammage and healing for 10 mins. After this you become afflicted with a de-buff called "Bloodthistle Withdrawal" which lasts for 20 mins and is -5 Spirit

According to WoWWiki:-

This temporary affliction can escalate into a full-blown addiction to bloodthistle, and "thistleheads" are looked down upon in blood elf society.

Bloodthistle can be compared to cocaine from its addictive properties and the similar term "cokeheads".

This doesn't state it, but Bloodthistle is Blood Elf only. When the 10 minute buff runs out, it applies a 20 minute debuff called Bloodthistle Withdrawal that lowers Spirit by 5.

Rogue is the only Blood Elf class that does not use Mana. It would appear they gain no effect from this whatsoever.

you will get a quest in shadowmoon valley regarding Bloodsthistel, goes to show that bloodsthistle must be some magical plant or something like that that some blood elves devour to ease their hunger for magic, in other words.. to blood elves this is like crack or something ;)

I found 5 of them by the North Sanctum in Eversong Woods. As a Herbalist you can herb-gather them no matter what's your lvl.

Personally i'd think this to be more like the blood elf cocaine, as weed isn't physically addictive and doesn't have bad withdrawal symptoms.

Also, look at blood elves, they're like 50 pounds each, of course they're coke heads!

Love this stuff for my blood elf 39 warlock twink. I always consume it on the battle grounds. +10 dmg and healing to spells is pretty significant, considering this herb is lvl 5 and in the starting area of the blood elves. I don't think a lot of blood elves even know what this is. I never see any BE's buffed with this. I'm the only one it seems.

I regularly run around in eversong to grab these for my tankadin, any spell damage is good spell damage.
