I'm sure this is an excellent weapon for many classes, but this has got to be one of the best (if not the best) 2H weapon for hunters currently in WoW.

Being a warrior, I'll admit this isn't bad, but there's so many great 2h weapons out there for us. I say don't be greedy and let the hunters have it first. This is GREAT for their RAP. Besides, there are far more raiding hunters of all specs then there are of raiding arms warriors - hello? do they exist even?

And...as a raiding warrior since 2004...Always go for str over equal amounts of ap, it's ridiculous not to with kings.

as a MM hunter (and survival for that matter), this is a melee weapon I would go for, it has everything that I would want, agi, power and stamina, and I would have the choice to put 35 agi or 70 ap (savagery) on it, depending on what kind of freak I am (agi or power, for power its MM and for agi its survival) ... no class benefits more from this than hunters do, warriors come 2nd imo...

a hunter with this + a slow bow/Xbow/Gun + Blessing of might and all that shit... deadly stuff :D

Agility is useful to any build and the attack power bonus falls in line with the proportions on tier sets. It's unarguably the best that a Hunter can pick up.

The real reason why Warriors don't really want this is agility does little for us. Critical strike rating is better for DPS since you get more percent critical chance with it per itemization point than agility. The dodge is useless when you are trying to do damage and you definitely aren't tanking if you are using a two-hander. While the same about the critical strike rating is true for Hunters they also get attack power from agility which makes them the prime candidate for this weapon, since Rogues and Druids can't use it. You can consider Retribution Paladins to be the same as Warriors for the purpose of this comment.

This permanent arguing for which class this item is best is ridicules.
Bid your DKP, best bidder wins. As neither hunters, retribution paladin nor arms warriors are essential for progression so there will be no intervention from your raidleader.
And if you are as far as this in content your warriors,, hunters, shamen know on their own, what ist best for them.

Blizzard almost certainly put this in for hunters. I play a warrior and i would pass for a hunter simply because there are better 2 handed swords and axes in BT and MH that contributute to str stats which scale with kings, and on top of that warriors should not be so selfish, not all melee weapons are made for us just because we can use all of them :)

This is a polearm useful for all melee classes but it has hunters mainly in mind. The high agility and stam is useful, along with hit and attack power, those 4 stats are all hunters need nowadays.

Trident is nowhere near as good as this for a warrior. Its too fast, and it has no crit whatsoever. Also, this' top end damage is considerably higher.

Like many has already posted, the Halberd of Desolation is hands down the best 2-hander for hunters currently in game (patch 2.3). Trollbane does come close, so does dual wielding certain one-handers (One hunter in my guild dual wields Tracker's Blade from Rage and Messenger of Fate off of Gurtogg Bloodboil). Of course, at the end of the day it all comes down to who has more dkp or who has contributed to your guild more, but keep in mind that currently hunters almost have no second choice in terms of 2-handers.

Amazingly great and is the best, but for only 1,000 arena points (and not having to get a BT quality guild), the S3 axe is pretty amazing on it's own merit.

This weapon compared to dual Netherbane:

If you use this, you will get 100 ap, 20 hit rating, 51 agility and 57 stamina, plus a +35 agility enchant will end up with 100 ap, 20 hit rating, 86 agility and 57 stamina.

Using dual Netherbane you will get 80 ap, 25 agility and 21 stamina. Plus 2 +20 agility enchants will get you at 80 ap, 65 agility, and 21 stamina.

For guilds not at Black Temple yet but running Tempest Keep often, I would suggest dual Netherbane to a hunter until they can get their hands on Halberd of Desolation , and even Shivering Felspine after, as you can put a nice agility gem in there, plus the extra ap is good. Sure you lose some stamina and hit rating, but if you are survival, you should have no problem dealing with the losses. Also, with the haste, it ends up at 3.38 speed.

These days, when this is strapped to your back (which it is virtually all of the time for Hunters), the pointy end is down, despite what the 5-year-old screenshot would have you think. Plus or minus, depending upon your point of view.

Blizz likes to make hunter weapons polearms for some reason. Others could use it sure, but there are better weapons for warriors/pally/shammy in black temple and this is the best wep for hunter i've seen so far.

Slightly better then the tier 3 BS weapons; my guess is this weapon is going to be on par with the season 3 gladiator 2 handers, or slightly better then them.

I'm a warrior and I wouldn't mind letting a hunter roll on this. Sure it has amazingly high end damage for killer mortal strikes and stam for health and agil for crit, plus ap and +hit, but those are all stats hunters can use as well, and if a hunter is forced into melee range, they better have a weapon that can make raptor strike count or they are dead. So yeah, I'd have no issues with a hunter rolling and winning this over me. It doesn't say warrior only so its all gravy baby.

70 MS-warrior here. I'd pass this to hunters, especially if that means they'll keep their greedy little mitts off Soulcleaver (which IS a warrior-weapon)

Halberd of Desolation is a great weapon for Mortal Strike and crits in general, but I'd still feel like a ^&*!@# for rolling over a hunter for it. We can get better weapons, and shouldn't aim for this as a hold-over - especially when this is basically the end-all, be-all spear for hunters.

And now to show that I'm not just the voice of reason: I consistently rank #1 in the damage-charts of a very nicely decked out guild-party, as the DPS-warrior - instances, PVE, PVP. Suck on that.

If there is a Hunter WANTING this weapon...PLEASE give it to him...As this is currently the Best Hunter Weapon that they can get...And there are much Better weapons for you...Its basically like this...

Everyone should be over the myth that hunters are weapon hogs "Hunter item", in fact if anything everyone else has hogged all melee weapons, and usually tell hunters not to roll, or “Anyone that can use that item may roll on it”.

I'm fed up with warrior/rogues/pallys not understanding, that while this item might be good for you, because all you do is use it for the damage. It might help your guild or the party out, to start letting hunters get items (that they might only use 20% of the time) but will significantly boost their dps.

You know how long a hunter has their melee weapons? I can tell you, it’s probably 5-10 times longer (sometimes longer) then a warrior or rogue will. You are constantly getting new and better upgraded melee weapons. While a hunter is usually passed over for any weapon that isn’t ranged (because hunters don't melee), is just wrong.

While I understand the logic behind your view of a hunter not using it as often, hence they don’t deserve it. It’s just not the case. While it is true, we don’t have to melee 0.1% as much as you might, it adds to our RaP, Crit %, and Hit % and it's the same logic. While melee weapons are almost like trinkets to us, they are still a very valuable piece of what makes us good hunters. Try using a damage chart, and you’ll see how valuable a good hunter is in a raid/party.

cause we too benefit from the stats on the melee weapon? we dont look at the dps as it means @#$%. but 100 AP = 100 ranged AP too. even more for a marksman hunter. 50 agi = 50 ranged AP and over 1% crit at that. just you having to ask something as stupid as that says enough.

For Hunters Agility is the only stat that can be used to increase their DPS, since Hunters are primarily ranged DPS. (Not counting raw AP, since this is the same for all classes; 1 AP = 1 AP ;) ).

Where warriors get 2 AP per 1 STR, Hunters only get 1 AP per 1 AGI, so Hunters require more of "their primary stat" (AGI) to get higher DPS, than a Warrior would require of "their primary stat" (STR).

The same goes for +Crit, where Warriors can get +1% Crit for only 33 AGI, Hunters require a full 40 AGI for +1% Crit, so Hunters often have to skip gear because they "only" have STA or INT, or low amounts of AGI.

A Warrior have a wider selection of weapnry to get AP from than a Hunter. A quick search found 5 weapons that have a lot more STR than this has AGI, between 51 and 75 STR, that's between 102 and 150 AP from the weapon, against only 100 the Warrior will get from this weapon.

As for the Crit Rating?
As Beast Mastery specialized Hunter, my pet is a significant part of my DPS. I have 3 skills that are directly dependent on me scoring a critical hit:
Kill Command - Allows me to let my pet instantly attack for a goodly amount of damage, which also can crit derived from my own Crit Rating, leading me to;
Ferocious Inspiration - Gives my party 3% damage increase, when pet scores a critical hit. Pet critical hit chance is directly dependent on my own.
Go for the Throat - Pet special abilities, that do a lot of damage, usually requires 50% focus to cast. This talent makes it possible for the pet to do this every time I score a critical hit, hence increase my DPS even more.

And just for the sake of completeness:
Expose Weakness - I know a lot of raiding Hunters are Survivalist specialized for this very Talent. The more AGI your Hunter have, the more benefit your entire raid will get.

Admittedly I know little about the talents/skills Warriors get, but from what little I do know, I haven't seen anything that makes a Warrior benefit from AGI as much as a Hunter will.

Agility + aP is what a hunter needs.. if this ever dropped, hunters should always have preference over a warrior. This polarm is the best possible weapon for a hunter in the game so far.

After TBC was released Arms Warrior was raised to a whole new level in PVE. As it stands now, an Arms Warrior brings more utility to a raid than a Fury Warrior does. Basically it brings Mortal Strike and Blood Frenzy + all the things Fury brings (Imp. Shouts, etc). The only difference is an Arms Warrior does a bit less damage.

Question is, what's worth most? An Arms Warrior cutting a boss' healing in half, and increasing 5-10 damage dealers DPS by 4%?

This depends on the group setup. 10 DD'ers (as far as the tooltip for Blood Frenzy it's melee damage, which means Melee Shamans, Fury Warriors, Arms Warriors, the tank (more threat) and the Rogues gets affected by this, some say it's physical damage, I'm not sure but it might be that the tooltip is wrong, wouldn't be the first time, and if that's the case you can include Hunters) getting their damage increased by 4% will make up for the damage loss, then throw in MS which is useful in some enounters and you have a viable support DPS class.

Other than that it's also a lot easier for an Arms Warrior to get Imp. TC and also get Imp. Demo. Shout, and Commanding Presence, which means a big boost for them as a debuff assistant on big bosses.

I'm not saying Arms Warriors are better for a raid than a Fury Warrior, but as it stands now, depending on raid setup and encounters, they're both viable.

So, who should get this? Well I won't see this for a long time, and those who does probably have DKP to decide it, but unless I were desperate for a new 2h (which I won't since I'm getting the Arena Season 2 Sword :)) I'd pass on this for a Hunter as the stats are perfect for them (I don't say this often, take my word on that :P). In the end though, this last part doesn't matter, as I said, this comment won't (I hope) be taken into consideration by the officers setting the pref. and making the DKP system for a guild who can actually get access to this weapon

Blizz should make melee weps with really crap dps, but plenty of the appropriate stats (agil, AP, stam...) so melee classes wouldn't want it and hunters wouldn't really care if the dps of the item was crap... Me thinks.

I'm not understanding this, there are SO many posts going back and forth about what class this should go to. Why? I mean, probably 2% of the people on this string of posts will ever even see the inside of Black Temple... I mean, honestly, the majority of the people yapping about "Hunter weapon!" or "MS Warrior" are still wondering if they will clear the Karazhan Opera on Monday night.

I'm not trying to beat myself up, I'm still running lesser raids than Black Temple. But honestly people, when it gets to the point where you are actually getting rolled against on this, then it won't be so bad. For most, you won't see this thing until the level cap is 80 so keep your poor grammar flames to yourselves. TY

I think we get it that this is a hunter weapon.... please just stop, it's making my eyes bleed.

Str weapons = Ret, Warrior, Enh

Any other stat weapon (not caster) = any other melee or hunter

To clarify:

3/4 of the weapons are available to you if your clearing BT +hyjal.... let the hunter get the other 1/4

I'm a Warrior and although this weapon has nice dps and attack power it's clear to see this is a hunter weapon. I would never roll on this, 2 reasons 1. Where's the STR? 2. It will probably be replaced in a week. Just let the Hunters roll!

Incredible hunter weapon (yeah it's a hunter weapon, I don't know if that was covered enough in this thread), the AP, hit rating and agi just make it boner-worthy. Probably the last weapon I'll have for my hunter, sunwell will take a while.

right now I have this on my hunter, its really great. Im in sunwell hopin for the new pole,makin sure the warr and pally in my raid dont take it from me.(wont happen any time soon.)but anyway, this is great for all those hunters wanting a better wep since there r only like 5 or 6 really good hunter weps out there for raiding anymore. my 2 cents.

IMO i'd take both, start out any boss with the halberd + savagery or + 35 agi + aspect of the hawk.

After your mana gets low, switch to dual-wield +30intx2 + 2x mana oils + Aspect of the Viper.

After your mana gets going again, switch back

Im sure all you now end - game raiders are remembering a time when a hunter would need chance on hit weps with NO STATS WHATSOEVER.... And if you do then why not even up the score? I mean warriors should have better weps by now and if they don't, why the %^&* are they already end - game raiding? -_^ i mean cmon this has stamina and agi. which is really come to think of it good for any class that can use a polearm. BUT, it would just be funner to ninja the new legendary bow Kil'Jaeden is supposed 2 drop. So whatever floats your boat, im a *!@#ing mage so i dont really give a flying @#$% on what all you MS warriors do these days. And, depending on the instance, you will sometimes need a MS warrior
