EDIT: The following comment was made before the introduction of Armor Specializations in Cataclysm. The value of having a helm that matches your intended armor type to gain a +5% stat bonus to your primary stat may outweigh the benefits of this helm. Heed the advice in this post at your own discretion.

This helm is excellent, and it seems to be frequently overlooked by many due to the unconventional method of obtaining it.

It has a great balance of Crit rating, Hit rating, AP and a very nice chunk of stamina. If you're freshly 70 and are a Druid, Rogue, Shaman or Hunter I would absolutely recommend running around Winterfin Hold to pick up the clams for this helm. The gathering takes no more than 15 minutes -- and if you're a Druid or Hunter, you wanted to pick up clams anyways for the Polearm that's sold by the same vendor. You may as well pick this up too while you're at it.

I list Shamans and Hunters for this thing because the only helm that I've found remotely similar to this in Mail form is the Helm of the Broken Ram, which is a world drop and has a higher level requirement. It would be, in the best sense, a direct upgrade but not by much. The Patch of Honor will probably carry you longer.

I'm an enhancement Shaman. I'll admit, I was leery of taking this when I first got out there. Who ever bought a helm from a murloc before? I figured since all it cost was clams why not get it to try it out.

As mentioned before, it has everything an enhancement Shaman needs aside from direct Agility or Intellect. It does have all sorts of +crit and AP though, and I'm also finding that the +hit to be much more valuable than I first thought.

Oh, and I look bad-ass wearing this on my Orc! Shaman: better throw on that Water Breathing and get to harvesting clams. By the time you are done doing the quests in this area, the 30 clams needed is no problem!

For anyone following Elitist Jerks' Enhancement Shaman point system (EP), here is the breakdown on this helm:

25 hit * 3.1 = 77.5 EP
34 crit * 1.7 = 57.8 EP
80 AP * 1 = 80 EP

Total EP = 215.3

Here are a few quest reward helms from Borean Tundra that you Shaman may be rolling and their comparative EP values:

Spiked Magmoth Helm: Total EP = 203.2
Farseer's Headpiece: Total EP = 170.4
Shakproof Coif: Total EP = 157
Reinforced Mendicant's Cowl: Total EP = 143.4

Just purchased this and the Trident for my druid on 3/8/09 and the price has been reduced to only 30 clams - extremely easy to get (especially when no one else is there farming the clams).
