More similar to from SSC / TK, without being BOP from the start.

The reason being that were mainly used for crafting shadow resist gear as most of the crafted gear was no where near the quality per item level, as the gear crafted from vortex's.

The gear that can be crafted from the patterns that drop in ulduar is of very good quality as well. (ie best in slot mage belt, based on gear that has been looted as of this time (could exclude higher lvl hard mode drops yet to be seen))

I would say is also more similar to fiery/lava cores from MC trash since they only drop from trash as well. (and are used for resist gear)

I can confirm that the drop rate is NOT 100%. Downed Razorscale on heroic and didn't get one.

In my opinion these orbs are way too expensive. They cost more then actual badge items do.

These orbs should be more like 4-5 badges. It's just not worth buying them.

Edit: In terms of costing more than actual badge items. It takes 6 to craft something with them. So 6x18.= 108 badges.

A belt isn't worth 108 badges. No matter how much Blizzard thinks so.

A guild mate asked me yesterday if 3.5K gold for an orb is a fair price. I told him to do the math, since you need six orbs for any piece of crafted gear.

18 emblems for an orb: is that OK or too much? If I counted that right, there are 14 bosses in Ulduar including Algalon the Observer, which will be killed by let's say 5% of the guilds. According to Blizzard you can only fight Algalon one hour per week, so it's not like he will be on farm right from the start. I don't know how many Emblems of Conquest one can get from Ulduar, but let's assume it's 18 (I bet it's less than that actually). It will take 6 full clears of Ulduar to get 6 orbs, if you're not very lucky with rolls or if orbs are distributed in some way in your guild. Since those assumed 18 emblems per week come from hard mode bosses (to unlock Algalon and get extra loot/emblems from him), by the time someone has 6 orbs (or 108 emblems) he will most likely have no use for them as the drops from hard mode bosses are of higher quality than crafted gear.

All in all crafted pieces of gear will have a really shocking price tag. For example, let's look at the new Belt of Blasting pattern - Pattern: Sash of Ancient Power. Depending on server, cloth will cost you somewhere around 1.5-2K gold. Even if you craft it yourself, it still has the same value. Add 6 orbs to that, a very nice fee and you will end somewhere over 5K gold when prices on orbs do drop. If you want to do one yourself, be ready to pay a lot for the pattern.

To be honest, even after buying Mechano-hog I don't consider myself rich enough to invest money in crafted Ulduar gear.

Something to consider when looking at these Runed Orbs. They are an emblem sinks, which are designed to be how players spend unneeded EoC when the next tier arrives. Raiders wouldn't actually need the crafted gear, unless they are very unlucky. Even if it is BiS for a spec/class, the cost to reward ratio is way to high unless you are given then Runed Orbs from guild runs and not trading EoC for them. The alternatives(i.e. 2nd BiS gear) are close enough that getting these through trading EoC is not worth it.

Given that all the crafted gear and recipes are not BoP, this makes them valuable for alts and crafters.I would say that this is a much better way to vest unneeded emblems then the BoE EoV wrists from vendors at 60 emblems a pop.

Apparently these Orbs have a much higher drop chance on bosses done at a higher difficulty setting. I've seen videos where as many as 2 drop after doing it with a single incremental increase in challenge and the fact that Runemaster Molgeim, the second hardest setting for the Iron Council, have a drop chance of 119% on these seems to support that hypothesis.

As guilds become more familiar with Ulduar, the price on the Runed Orbs should eventually drop as was the case with the Frozen Orbs but don't expect the market to become saturiated any time soon.

Just would like to point out that Runed Orb's only drop in Heroic Ulduar(25 man), they wont drop for you in Normal Ulduar(10 man), Unless your doing hard mode which has the same ilvl gear as easy mode Heroic Ulduar bosses.

These runed orbs are used for BiS items. Meaning you won't find an upgrade till 3.2 comes up, or even Icecrown. Is it worth the 6 runed orbs? Hell yeah.

Let's look at the time commitment on this. My guild's casual, only a 6hr raiding week for 25mans, and we've cleared up to the keepers. Getting the first half of Ulduar cleared is a pretty decent expectation for a lot of PvE guilds out there.

From EoC
Each week, we get 12 EoCs at least. ( 2 Normal FL+2, 2 H VoA, 2 FL +1, 1 Ignis, 1 Razor, 1 XT, 1 Kolo, 1 IC, 1 Auri) So it's going to take 9 weeks to get 6 Orbs. Okay, 9 weeks from badges for a BiS seems middling. The mats are meh, you can't expect to pay nothing for a BiS. I remembered how I had to farm loads of primals for my spellfire set + offsets.

What about using EoC for something else?
What else can you use those EoC on? Tier 8.5 tokens of course! You're going to need 58 for each token and there're 2 of them. That means 116 EoCs in total, and that's 10 weeks worth of raiding. The other EoC items aren't that fantastic with questionable stat budgeting so they're out.

From Raid Drops
Depends on how your raid does it. For us, we gather 6 and let the raid roll for the item (winner lets the guild know what they want crafted, and it's crafted for them foc). Letting each person win this roll only once and with 25 raiders, it's going to take us ~50 weeks. Yikes, that's almost a year!

So that just shows it's too insane a price to pay since it takes so long...
Yes, and no. If you see it from an individual perspective, then yes, it is a huge price to pay. Too much in my opinion. But if you look at it collectively, if you work together with the rest of the raiders, it's actually decent. Get some of your guildies together and create a runed orb pool. Those who've won the EoC tier tokens will not have anything else to spend their EoCs on anyway. Getting just 4 others into this pool means that one of you can craft the BiS every 2 weeks. Consider also that as this pool is going on, those who have not created their BiS can still roll for the raid drops. As the weeks go by, and more people have crafted their BiS, pooling orbs to create a BiS will just get progressively faster.

So yeap, requiring 6 runed orbs for one BiS is pretty decent as long as you work together as a guild. zomgBiSyo.

18 badges for a Runed Orb isn't so bad. You have to keep in mind that most of the orbs you'll need drop from the bosses your guild kills in heroic Ulduar. And I'm sure these orbs won't be FFA, and will go towards the guild bank and into the locked raid tab for later use.

To this day since Ulduar came out, our guild has handed out some 7-8 sets of Runed Orbs (x6) based on DKP.

I'd be very surprised if anyone else does it differently :p

These will likely plummet in price soon after 3.2 hits, as a result of people getting the emblems for them from heroic dungeons and naxxramas.

Well here we are 3.2, high cost of these Orbs makes these craftable items unobtainable to anyone who would actually need them as an upgrade....Blizzard has done this in the past and they continue to do it to this day, it's not worth the investment to make any of the items to sale nor is it worth the investment to make any of the items for yourself because the simple fact is by the time you get the mats together you will have better items through the process of getting the mats (Raiding), grats Blizzard on making another line of impractical and obsolete patterns once again you fail on an epic level .

Btw runed orbs do not drop from any known 5 man.
