You get these in a daily that you get once you reach 475 Jewelcrafting. I was leveling it up right beside him to see when I got it. :)

Can you do it at level 80?
And if so, will the dailies be like the Dalaran JC's,, where you need to kill some enemies to get an object?

My JC is still lvl 80 and has crap gear. So if alot of fighting is involved, I might have problems taking them down,

The Cataclysm currency used for the purchase of rare and epic Jewelcrafting recepies, recieved from the daily quests from Marith Lazuria in Orgrimmar or Isabel Jones in Stormwind.

The quests involve handing in a number of green gems (Ogrezonians in the Mood, Nibbler! No!, A Present for Lila), killing and looting Cataclysm elementals (Elemental Goo) and "testing" humanoid subjects with stardust (The Latest Fashion!).

These quests become available at Jewelcrafting level 475.

The actual recipes are bought from the respective quest givers.

Just for clarity, you cannot use gems that have already been created to complete the daily quests. This is why the quest's require both the "cut" and the actual gem.

So bored and wanted to see how long it would take to collect all the patterns I wanted. I have bought 1 rare pattern and will get one meta cut tomorrow = 7 Tokens already. So adding up all the others + the few jc only ones I want = 266 days..I'm not happy.

Why are there recipes that require 465 jewelcrafting to learn, if you need 475 jewelcrafting to get the dailies for the currency to buy it?

This makes no sense at all...

I would also like to add the following: Make Sure you are not in a raid group when you cut the gems! I made the mistake of being in one, and you do not get credit for cutting the gems, causing me to waste my three hard-earned Zephyrites.
Personally, I think it's a silly (or even possibly unintended) consequence; 10, 25, or even 40 people aren't going to make cutting gems any easier.

Tbh getting only 1 token a day with so many recipes sucks... Anyone knows if there is only 1 daily and/or there will be more in the future?

There isn't a cap for these tokens. If you have all of the recipes you currently need and a few to make some profit with, I recommend saving your tokens until the next set of recipes, which should be the epic recipes, are released so that you can buy several of the patterns from the get go before many others on your realm.

Takes exactly 273 days to acquire all of the tokens to buy every pattern currently avaialable; I didn't count Chimera's Eye because you will need it multiple times.

If your JC toon is a tank, an easy way to do the Elemental Goo one is insta-queue up for Vortex Pinnacle.

I believe I know the reason why it takes so long to grind out the patterns. Jewelcrafting is arguably one of the most profitable professions, so it is possible that Blizzard forces you to choose which patterns you need most so that you cannot simply sell only those cuts that sell for the most, which cheats other players who need thos specific cuts. Or maybe that is just me thinking that Blizzard cares about us players...

JC Cuts are harder to get than other profession patterns because unlike (for example) Blacksmiths who had to spend a ton of metal to get their plans, JC cuts remain in demand. My blacksmith has no real use for the ilvl 359 gear he amassed, but that Agility Cut I picked up in the early days of Cataclysm still nets me 200+ gold per.
That is the reason JCs spend 200+ days to get all their cuts and can't just Farm or Purchase "tokens" from the AH.

You only need to buy the few red gem patterns thats it... and thats the only thing that makes money.
Red gems = $$
Other gems = garbage / worthless

Unless you're insane completist, you don't need all of them. There's about twenty patterns at most that worth a cut. All of the stat gems, and some desirable combinations. Plus metas.

while your reasoning may seem sound (to you, and other trolls who think professions only benefit the pc who learns them), this hypothesis fails for anyone cutting gems for their guild or for profit in trade chat, where atypical players will always ask for the cut you previously deemed less than worthy.

ex: other day i told a dps in the guild he would have to search the ah for a meta cut that i never thought anyone would ask for - the cut in question was the meta, crit +crit% - i offered to cut him a str+crit% for free (the pattern i had bought specifically for non-rogue melee dps'ers), but he had already made up his mind to get max crit. he ended up buying said gem on the ah for a hefty amount of gold. i was able to easily explain the lack of recipes with: 1)cost of gem recipes (anywhere from 2 to 6 dailies worth of tokens), 2) my jc is like my 3rd or 4th string toon (main is a druid healer herb/alch), and 3) farming items for the recipes can become very time consuming (ever have that day where u can prospect 20stacks of ore and never see ONE nightstone? i have >.<').

but the point still remains that i shouldn't have had to find excuses for not having recipes, when every other profession can go and exchange cloth, or skins, or crafted items (that do not require a cooldown, like a goblin bbq with engineering), or get chances for MULTIPLE tokens from a daily (like cooking). i have multiple toons and all professions covered - for the majority, only recipes missing are random drop bop's... normally from raids - jc and inscription are the only ones that make me want to pull out my hair - but heck, i almost have all of the inscription recipes, even with those being chance learns from a daily crafting - whereas jc is looking like mop will come out before i hit 70% learned (using ackis recipe list)- how is that balanced again?

i agree with not learning all of the jc only gemcuts, but if you think 20gem cuts cover all of the populace's needs/wants, you need to seriously log out of that one person private server you're on, and join the rest of wow society on the p2p servers. sorry, do i need to switch to 'stoner' speak? like, ya know, hi, this is the world... of warcraft... and we have like, uhm, epic cuts now, not just blue cuts... which just the pure wicked stat gems for both those like, gnarly epic cuts and the totally normal blue cuts would be like, ya know, waaaaay over 20 cuts alone... so dude, like, get with the program, k?
