I actually think this might be more of a nod towards Athene the player with all those silly paladin videos and the first player to reach lvl 80 (although he got banned for it =D)

Well, the owl, an animal often used by the night elves, is also a symbol of Athena. Athena was a war goddess, and the sentinels are women warriors. Because of these facts, I believe that the item is named after the goddess Athena, rather than some random paladin (can paladins even use staffs?).

It's not quite as painfully blue and eye burning as it looks in "view in 3D". It's the same color but slightly dimmer. Lovely model re-color of the Blood Elf starting staff which is a different color blue.

Just picked it up today on my Warlock. If you are confused, here is how to get it:

Go to the night elf ghost (female) above the first tree boss, she is standing on a ledge.

Accept the first quest she gives. Hand it in and take the next one.

This is the quest that will give you the item. It says to look for a "treasure".

To find it, jump down to the first tree boss fight area, and go through the front door that leads downwards.

You will find the area you went through before, this time look underneath the stair case. There is the treasure.

So, the stats are great, you can keep it till level 50, but keep in mind that 45-48 content can replace it.

It is a reference to the Greek Goddess Athena - she was the goddess of wisdom and her symbol that she held on her shield was an owl, which links into night elf culture.

The model of the staff is the Blood Elf starting staff, the color however is different.

If you find the color to not be very pleasing, please note that the blue is actually pretty dark and would fit wonderfully with the following robes in terms of color and stats:

Robe of Everlasting Night (Dire Maul - Same Area)

Freezing Lich Robes (Scholomance)

I've been lucky enough to get both of those robes, but personally stat wise for a caster I recommend the Lich robe.

For those who don't have access to the BoA staff, this is a nice competitor even if it is missing a substantial amount of spell power. It can take a BC enchant which helps make up for it a little bit, preferably one of the enchants found in Kara (+50 shadow/frost/fire/arcane damage)
