Just to the south. Sits an a rock in the water. Just use the provided item to aggro him.
The bird got 118k hp which will take a while to burn down and also hits for ~3k before migitation
Did it with a warlock whose voidwalker tanked, after the first 'burn down' strategy didn't work out that well
You will need some healing for the tank as well, as 118k hp don't go away in a few seconds :)

Alystros can be found at 64,76, on a rock. He's Doable by an dps/healer combination, 118k HP are a lot to bring down however, so if you can find one more it's better.

He can't be kited, but you can solo him with a pet tanking (voidwalker/hunter tank pet).

Soled as 73 holy paladin in T5 gear. Very long fight for poor holy me. With Blessing of Wisdom, Seal of Wisdom, and Judgement of Wisdom all in use I finished the fight at about 1/4 mana.

I was able to solo this as a L73 enhance shaman (with sunwell gear). Make sure to keep moving in order to avoid the debuff he plants.

Solo'd as a level 75 T6 Demonology Warlock. Took about 4 minutes but it's possible. Alystros hit my VW for 500-1000 damage. He also has a knockback and a slowing effect that slows you for 50%.

My strategy:
Send VW in and pop Demonic Empowerment right away. Keep Curse of Agony and Corruption up at all times (I also used Shadowflame for some more damage). Health Funnel constantly to keep your VW up. Drain Life works well if you're running low on health. This strategy should work for a good amount of elite quests in Northrend.

I wouldn't recommend doing anything more than dots because you'll most likely pull aggro. With all the healing going on, you'll be bordering threat of your VW.

As of this post, this quest seems to be bugged. No matter where we stood, no one in my party was able to summon Alystros. It kept saying "Must be closer to Alystros," even if we were standing directly under him.

EDIT: Definitely bugged. A group of us tested it out. When we found a spot that worked for summoning, we made a note of it and tried again later, and it no longer worked. Good luck until they fix it, but if it doesn't work for you just know that it probably will eventually if you keep trying at different times.

I managed to solo this on my 2nd try as an Unholy DK. I put on all my tanking gear (mix of Northrend greens and crafted Cobalt BS set) and Frost Presence, made sure IT and PS was up, and then just spammed Death Strike to keep myself topped up. At the same time, checking to use my cooldowns whenever they were ready (helps to cast Bone Shield and then wait a minute for it to be ready before you pull the mob).

It was long but I couldn't be bothered to ask for a group. Had to pot once but I still managed to finish with at least 90% of my HP left. I made sure to move around constantly to avoid the debuff. Keeping your back as much to the cliff helps with the knockback too.

Soloed him as a 76 lock with Felguard SL build. just put 3 dots and kept on healing my felguard.
had to soulshatter once besides that he was very easy Took like 3 mins.

I also solo'd him with my warlock, lvl 74 in a mix of entry level T4 epics and northrend quest greens. sl/fg build, but I used my voidwalker.

curse of weakness + siphon life + corruption with health funnel healing. It took quite a while as I was bordering on 90% throughout the whole fight, but as long as you're careful a smart warlock can do this quest in his sleep.

I've always found those kind of comments helpful. If I know several other people are able to solo it at 75, then I know to leave it alone at 72 but at 77 I should be able to handle it.

I just attempted this twice solo as a level 74 enhancement shaman. i was not able to do it. I dropped my Fire Elemental, healing stream, Strength of Earth totem, summoned my wolves and started going at him. I tried to keep Twin Howl up on my wolves so they would get hit and not me, popped a couple of pots and healed with the proc of Maelstrom Weapon. But I couldn't get it's health down more then half before he got me.

It was soloable as a level 73 demo lock. Talent tree so far is 0/57/7. To be honest it wasn't difficult as a demo lock, I only have 1 point in improved health funnel, and low spell damage for my level. Spell damage is 1175.

Spell cycle went like this: Send in voidwalker, cast demonic empowerment, followed by torment and suffering. Applied corruption and curse of agony on mob and just sat there casting health funnel. The only thing difficult about this mob (at least for demo warlocks) is that he has 118k and takes forever to take down. Only once did this mob turn on me briefly and that was because I tossed on an immolate to see if he would aggro, and he did. This was when he was down to about 60k hp. I cast soulshatter and he was right back on the voidwalker. Kept applying demonic empowerment every minute along with suffering every 2 minutes.

When he was down to about 12-15k, I cast demon form and burned him down with every cooldown and that was that. Hope this helps anyone else trying to do this as a demo lock. Good luck!

76 Protection warrior.
The first time I wasn't been able to kill him.
I forgot to hit the Enraged Regen. button as well.
Popped Shield Wall too early.
I also had some dps items on instead of full tanking gear. (e.g. higher stamina)

Wearing Tempered Saronite gear as well as some quest rewards and outlands trinkets/ring/neckpiece.

I got pretty close to killing him so If i popped the skills the right way it would've been very close, but pretty much duable.

On the 2nd try there was a Death Knight who needed the bird as well so we duo'd it.

Together with Last Rites it's the 2nd quest I wasn't been able to solo for now.

It's soloable as feral druid at lvl 74 aswell...Although very hard.
Using full tanking gear from lvl 70 (T5+Random badge-loot) I manage to do it after 2 tries. You really need to be quick handling trinkets, CD's, pots and Barkskin when you need to heal.

Also you have to keep moving around to avoid getting the debuff slowing your hit speed. Keep lacerate up at all time and try to take as little dmg as possible by spamming your dodge trinkets.

No recommended but doable with good gear.

I had cat feral spec with nerfed my dodge though.

Nice XP too 5000exp.

Just soloed this as a level 74 DK. was in frost presence. i am blood/unholy spec with probably half blue half greens. the blues from Azjol and quests.

Easily soloable. never had to worry about my health i was always 70% or higher in health. Didn't need to use pots or kill my ghoul. Just used deathstrike and popped my vampiric blood. Stood with a tree behind me so knockback didn't really have an effect.

Just Soloed 74 DK Frost tank spec. Here was my strategy hopefully it works for you.

First thing I did was position myself securely in the notch located on the tree facing Alystros. Then I made sure I had all my tank gear on and frost presence up. This is because you don't drive a car with out checking your gauges. When I was all set to go I aggro Alystros and popped IBF as soon as I was able to. Proceeded with the following rotation:

Plague Strike >> Icy Touch >> Blood Strike >> Blood Strike >> Death Strike(when ever available)

Also periodically Id pop trinkets, health potion, Lich borne, and Unbreakable Armor. And that is all I did keep you're hp above his and you'll be ok. BTW took about 3 solid minutes to bring him down. Also if you have the Glyph of Death Strike as spoken about above your not going to want to use any runic power because it reduces the amount your healed for. I only used IBF.

Able to solo as level 75 ret paladin (wearing mostly S4) but it was sort of close.

He's immune to stun. Had to use DS and LoH to beat him. Don't use them until you are quite close to death because a string of big hits from you / misses from him will get a bunch of your HP back from your abilities. Make sure you are judging light and using divine storm as soon as it cds since the extra healing will add up.

Solo'd as a level 77 Prot Warrior in mostly Tempered Saronite with a few BC blues (mostly rings and trinkets).

The trick is to fly out to the rock he's on. Don't worry about the knockbacks, he'll come to you in the water. Spam shield slam and revenge when possible, and pop enraged regeneration when you're at about 35% health. Periodically use your three stuns (Shield Bash, Shockwave, and Concussion Blow) to stun him if necessary to give yourself a breather. When you're at about 35% health again, pop a Runic Healing potion and continue the heavy SS/Revenge spamming, with the occasional refresh of your shouts and a Devastate/HS combination. You'll be pretty low at the end but you'll beat him.

soloed as a lvl 75 unholy dk, i dident have my pet at the time. so it was a little bit harder. But i died when he had like 2000 hp left and i returned as a ghoul and managed to kill him and loot :)

Tried solo'ing as a 74 Nelf hunter MM spec. Got him down to 14k before I died. I was wearing 2 t5 and badge gear and was using a ferocity pet. I did use heart of the phoenix but didn't quite down it. Oh and the 14k was the best of 3 attempts. I imagine a BM hunter or a hunter with better gear could solo it quite easily. Scroll buffs might also help as well as a tenacity pet.

Ended up a rogue needed it too, and it was easy with two.

Soloed as a lvl 73 Holy spec Pally. it took 10 min but i got it done, didn't even have to use LoH, just kept ret aura up and blessing of wisdom, hit divine plea, divine illumination, and arcane torent every time it was up, used my mana pot and kept my back to the wall. for damage i thew in shocks and concicrates so i can continue the spam healing for 10 min. just goes ta show ya us pally don't run out of mana ever. good luck to whoever else trys to solo the bird and have fun

Speaking as a Mage, the reward for this quest seems to be ridiculously overbudget. It wasn't until a blue quest reward in Zul'Drak (for finishing Gun'Drak) that I actually found a better belt.. I turned down 4 or 5 blue belts in various dungeons and quests up until Zul'Drak.

It was the last peice of equipment I replaced with a Blue, and the blue was only slightly better.

74 Ret

This one is hard to solo, so I completed it with the help of a Shaman and a Druid.

I started off with the aggro, hit it with as many judgments and consecrates as possible. It is immune to Hammer of Justice. Its hits took my health fast, I healed and the Druid took over. The Shaman threw all he had at it. It went down fast but not too quickly.

Its a popular quest, so getting a group is not hard.

Just soloed as 72 Protection Paladin. Used Seal of Wisdom with Judgement of Light. No DS, but used LoH and DP. A pot when it got a lil sticky :P Healed when I could and had under 6k hp. So long as you can last long enough for your mana to get back up to heal and do some damage, you'll be fine. :D

Solo'd as 75 frost spec tank death knight.

Had to use death pact on my ghoul, but no pots. I was also using Succulent Orca Stew food which gives +30 crit and +30 stamina.

Popped all tanking cooldowns at the beginning - Icebound Fortitude, Unbreakable Armor, Deathchill, and Lichborne

Rotation was: Icy Touch --> Plague Strike --> 2x Blood Strike, and Death Strike. Threw Frost Strike in when I had the runic power.

Hit all cooldowns again as soon as they came up. Kept up the rotation. Finished around 20% health.

I have:
20.1k armor in frost presence
15.7k health w/food buff
16.5% dodge.
13.11% parry

Just tried to solo this as a 80 rogue and failed;

had around 18.5k hp from pots, scrolls and food buffs.

I got him down to around 25k hp from 118k. Popped evasion near the start, but failed to keep up ruptures and used SnD a little too late. Used prep and popped evasion again as well as a few crappy heals with Lifeblood (from Herbalism) and a healing pot. Going to try again once my CDs are up and this time SnD from the start and keep ruptures up.

I would have had him if i'd kept rupture up and he also got a crit right toward the end which finished me off.

Solo'd as a 74 Unholy Death Knight.

Put Tanking Gear on (some blue quest rewards.. nothing crafted) and turned Frost Presence on. Just keep IT and PS up... and spam Death Strike. When possible, use Icebound Fortitude and Bone Shield. I've found myself with like 20% hp when boss have 30%... then i just used Death Pact, HP up to 60%, used a healing pot and continued spamming Death Strike 'till he's down.

It's not hard at all as a Death Knight. Just back on the cliff to avoid the knockback. Not hard... just take a good time. If you want to go faster, at the end you can put diseases on and spam Scourge Strike.

Soloed as 74 ret pala with bloodied arcanite reaper and leveling gear. Used kings, judgement of light and seal of comand and made use of a bubble and mana pot. Made sure to time healing well with when he flung me away, divine plea after bubble/heal. If needed i could have used lay on hands, then wait 30 seconds and used another bubble, but he died b4 that so wasn't needed.

Tried to solo him just a few minutes ago, Level 72 Elemental Shaman. I dropped all my totems including Earth Elemental Guardian. Hit him with Flame Shock to bring him into battle, but my guardian didn't want to hold aggro and after a few hits I dropped dead. The good news is the Earth Elemental Guardian is immune to a lot of his attacks -- the bad news is he doesn't hold aggro well when you've got to dump so many attacks/spells on him to kill him (so many HP!).

Would've done better switching to resto and having a tank chip away at the elite. I'll try again later...

This mob bugged on me twice during my solo-attempt with my at-the-time level 78 Priest. I was Holy specced and thought I'd give it a shot, but quickly realized it was a losing battle from the get-go, but at around 20% health his attacks were no longer hitting me, but I was still capable of hitting him.

After turning in the plume I attempted to fight him again and the same thing happened. However this does not occur on my Hunter... strange!

This is definitely a toughie for anyone to solo, not simply because of the mob but because that this is a quest hot-spot. I actually abandoned it as I was unable to find a time when Horde were not swarming the area, ready to gank me. I don't recommend trying without a group, if only to watch your own butt.

Managed to solo this tonight as a 76 Enhance Shaman, taking me two tries.

My first try, I dropped Strength of Earth, Healing Stream, Windfury. I then use the item to call it down, and dropped my Fire Elemental totem. I immedietly popped wolves and Heroism, and went to town. With my wolves up and constantly getting them to taunt I managed to get it down to 20k before they despawned and I bit the dust.

Round two I dropped Healing Stream, Windfury, Searing Totem. Called it down and dropped Earth Elemental totem, and I waited basically as long as I could before popping my wolves. I figure if I don't go all out, the Earth Elemental could tank a bit and I could take off a chunk of it's HP. Eventually I popped my wolves and Heroism, and this time I got it down to 7k before my wolves disappeared. Popped Shamanistic Rage for the damage reduction, and managed to kill it while only having to use a single MW5 Healing Wave.

Ok so i read through and thought id have a little go at this,
Now im a lvl 75 elemental shaman, Not the greatest gear still siting with my 2set T6 bonus. And a few BT/MH pieces.

So stats are not to bad.

Try #1 i didnt know what to expect so called it down and started with Stoneskin, Totem of Wrath, Fire elemental and Wrath of Air totems. started pew pew kept up water shield and got him down to 72% and then died.

So i ressed and got buffed up again and ready again, this time different totems.

Totem Of wrath, Mana Spring totem and Wrath of air totem,

I called the boss down and at that point then dropped earth elemental. Continued to dps with LB and Lava lash. While i did this i had to heal the earth elemental. and dps heal, dps,heal etc etc . Drunk a mana potion here to keep mana pool up.

Earth elemental died and then it was just me and the mob, he had 8k hp left and pew pew he died.
I ended up with around 2k mana,

All this i did without Heroism as i had used it on the first try.

So can easily be done with hero before your earth elemental dies.

I wouldnt wana try this at lvl 74, lava lash helps a lot with the crits it gives you + short cast time. and that comes to you at lvl 75.
But dont be scared to try it at 75+ solo elemental shamans.

killed as lv 74 beast mastery hunter (51/14/0 for the talents) in the first attempt.

my devilsaur went for dmg talents only, therefore had only around 9,7k health and 50% armor reduce.
use misdirection when possible, 100% uptime for mend pet is required as one missing tick may already be deadly to your pet.
use distracting shot every now and then and also whenever your pet falls below 35-50% hp. run a few yards to let mend pet regain some health and get some distance for the next taunt, then feign death. you won't stand in the AoE for long as a side effect, too. not that i would recommend to stand in it, that debuff can really hinder your pet's threat generation.
the pet should be able to live through all of the fight with this, just make sure serpent sting is always up and regain mana with the viper aspect when needed.

Solo as DK unholy level 76. I wanted to see how the fight goes before trying to dual box it with my warlock. Fight is not bad, just keep healing. With my lock and DK two boxing it he went down pretty easy. I suspect that any DK + dps pair could take him down at 75 or above.

usually lurk but i was so proud of myself when i finally solo'd this ...as lvl 75 enhancement shaman.....

ok this is how it went.. pretty much just realized i did almost what the guy above me did... however i did it in a different order.....

died twice before i got it down....

set up.. flametounge totem / windfury totem / health stream totem / and start off with earth elemental guardian out.....

tank and spank till the earth elemental dies...
pop wolves when the guardian is gone.. and blood lust... hopefully by now hes about 50% down...

while you are taking damage save your 5 mw stacks for instant heals.... his swipes do interrupt so make sure you are getting off your heal casts......

also make sure that you are keeping mana sheilds up as well..

dps race till he dies...

(btw im just geared in blues from instances.. nothing crazy... no epics... quest greenies for trinkets and rings...)

JUST soloed now as level 72 protection warrior. I am in T4/ZA mix gear. Took a while (4-5 shield block rotations) and required a potion, retaliation, shield wall, but NOT last stand. First 2 tries i kept getting stupid lasher adds which do about 600 magic damage every 3-4 seconds which quickly led to my deaths. Third time i went around and killed EVERY SINGLE PLANT before I tried it and it worked :P

I have just soloted it as a level 75 blood DK using a soloting spec (the site is in French but at least you can look at the spec).
My gear is green and blue from blacksmithing and quests and 2 level 70 epics, but with very good gems and enchants.
My buffs before the fight were
- frost presence (maybe blood is better)
- mega mammoth meal
- scroll of protection VII
- elixir of mighty defense
I simply used all my cds when available and otherwiwe tried to rotate IT/PS/DS/HS/HS, DS/DS/HS/HS inclding a few obliterate. Those cds included all means to heal oneself (but not lichborne and deathcoil).

As a level 74 with the same spec and slightly inferior gear, blood presence and no elixir I brought Alystros to 30% despite a few mistakes so I believe a more talented DK should be able to down it at level 74 (or less see the post below, probably finding a way to avoid Wing Beat's debuff) with green and blue gear.
I also tried once with my leveling spec, unholy, at level 74, but did not even bring it to 50%.

This quest boss was the main reason I started a DK as it disgusted me that my full T7.5 mage got smashed by Alystros with no prospect of ever soloting it (well maybe in T9, we will see).

Soloed yesterday as a 72 Blood DK in blood presence. It was a long battle but not too difficult. I aggroed him from the left side of his platform and stood on an area of the beach that was slightly slanted so his knockbacks only moved me an inch or so. Couldn't sink many runes into Heartstrikes so I made sure to keep 2 diseases up and Deathstrike as much as possible to keep my health up. I did have to eventually use a few of my longer cooldowns when the DSs weren't keeping me topped off, it took about 6 minutes. Didn't have to sac my Ghoul or use a potion. Gear was all Northrend quest rewards.

Well....it took awhile, but I solo'd this as a resto druid. It took bout 35 minutes, but I did it.

1.) Self buff (make sure you have the talent in the balance tree that improves thorns)
2.) Make sure you have Imp. Tree of life for the armor bonus
3.) Aggro and autoattack.

If you heal yourself smartly (keep overheals to a minimum), and use barkskin every time it is up, between HoTs and Swiftmend, you can keep yourself up pretty easily. Use clearcast procs for lifeblooms, and attack the raptor that patrols the area if you aggro it. Hit innervate when the CD is down, and you should have no problems. Did this in Northrend greens/blues/a little kara gear, np. Just be patient.

On a side note, one ally did come up to bother me, but actually stayed and watched a few minutes before leaving me alone.

DO NOT switch to caster form to cast spells to improve your DPS. Even with barkskin. He will destroy you with his knockback (interrupt) and debuff (100% cast time increase).

Solo'd as 74 Holy Pally. Seal/Judgement of Wisdom, Conc Aura, deal damage with Exorcism, Holy Shock and melee hits. Used Divine Plea, Divine Favor, Divine Illumination as needed and just slowly worked him down. Took just under 7 minutes.

This one is a real nightmare to solo with i am a retri pally lev78 and he pawned my butt so don't believe what they have been writing above because it's all crap

solo'd as a 74 prot warrior, I wouldn't recommend soloing it though, grab another and save yourself some time, took me 3 trys to get the timing right on spell reflects. I didn't die on any attempt because I ran away and had him despawn. But it still wasn't worth it.

I've come to the conclusion that this is completely impossible to solo by my lvl 72 Blood/Unholy DK. Keeping CDs up (IBF, MoB) does not work, he simply hits too fast.

Soloed with ease with my 75 frost dk toon. Full avoidance/tank gear (northrend quest reward, some crafted green cobalt stuff), frost presence. Keep diseases up and spam death strike, use cooldowns whenever possible.

Just soloed this as a 75 Blood DK. My gear was nothing special at all, just your average leveling hodgepodge of quest greens and dungeon reward blues, all DPS and not a single piece of tanking kit. I used Frost Presence but you could probably do it in Blood also. Really the key to it is judicious use of cooldowns, spam Death Strike and use Rune Tap every time you can. Vampiric Blood is a godsend for this fight also. Use your CDs properly and you won't get below 40%. Patch day lag was the only reason I had to pop Lifeblood towards the end.

Soloed last night as a 74 ret pally. Was a bit of a challenge, but managed to make it on my first try. Didn't bubble or use LoH.

Gear: A couple BC epics, from the Headless Horseman. And a shield from a vendor I believe.

Method: Seal of Wisdom, Blessing of Might, and Ret aura active.

Used the item, as he approached the initial spells were Judgement of light, crusader strike, consecrate, Divine storm, Exorcism if Art of War procs and my health is high enough. I always began a holy light when my health got below 50%. Be sure to run out of the green cloud if you have any timed casts. Most of the Art of War went to giving me an instant Exorcism, but every so often I'd use it for a flash of light to give me a quick recovery when he knocked me back in the middle of a Holy Light. After the initial sequence, all sequencing goes to hell. Be sure to use all of the spells when they finish CD. Also be sure to use either Exorcism or flash of light as soon as Art of War procs.

Easy as pie with enh shaman, level 75.

Pull with healing stream, windfury, and strength of earth. Pop shamanistic rage as he is in transit, then fire ele. Burn him down as long as possible and maelstrom a heal or two then pop wolves and hero. Wolves will keep you healed, just spam LB on him unless you get caught low on HP. He died before my wolves disappeared, so the fight probably took about 45 seconds.

Easily done solo with a 72 Demonology Warlock in mostly S1 PvP gear.
About 1300sp, 25% base crit.
Felguard tanked. Popped Demonic Empowerment every chance. Kept Immolate, Corruption, and CoA up just about the entire time. Health Funneled my Demon to full between applications. Have Imp Health Funnel so he also enjoyed -30% damage during this healing.
I pulled once, shifted to Demon Form, but was still taking 1k a hit, so I soulshattered asap. Took about two minutes.

Solo'd as a level 72 blood-spec DK on my third try; my gear goes as far as having the blue plate gear from UK and AN

First attempt brought him to 31k hp; second try to about 40k

Third try involved 20stam food and an Onslaught elixir and one Runic Healing Potion

Step 1: Kill two nearby mobs to stack up RP before you begin the fight
Step 2: Summon your ghoul pre-fight
Step 3: Call him; pop Hysteria+DRW and Icebound Fortitude and any damage trinkets you have on
Step 4: Spam Deathstrike and Heartstrike; prioritize DS over HS and use Rune Tap / Vampiric Blood early and often; should be able to pull off two VB's over the course of the fight (roughly 2 minute fight).

As your ghoul timer winds down, sac him unless you won't survive otherwise, but try to sac him while Vampiric Blood is up; same for using Rune Tap --> Use when VB is up.

Fight him against the side of the mountain so when he wingflaps you don't move anywhere

All things considered, it still might take a few attempts to get down the priorities right and crits do happen so it might be frustrating, but it was an awesome feeling soloing a +2 level, 118khp bird that hits on plate in the 4 digits :D

I solod this with a 72 Demo Lock, had 901 healing power and just used corruption immolate and coa to burn her down, whilst healing my pet (voidwalker) as he took damage, completed Saturday october 17 2009. u need to have improved healthfunnel 2 and fel synergy 2 for this to work as you will need the extra healing on ur pet im using no special gear apart from quest rewards, I hope this encourages others to try aswell :P

easily soloed as a demo lock lvl 72

pull him down, send in felguard. health funnel immediately.
do corruption, CoA rotations and keep funneling.
occasionally life tap to give the felguard some manna.

at 80% threat soulshatter after that keep funneling dot'ing, immolating until he is dead.
takes a while but wasnt really a problem.

i am in quest greens and blues so no super gear required.

Pretty impossible for a feral druid (74). He hits too hard. And with no stun/root he'll hit you for 2K in caster form if you try to heal. I did get him down to about 50% with just a pot, herb heal, frenzied regen and a few rejuv (where I cast rejuv and shifted back to bear as soon as the GCD would let me). If you have a bit better mitigation so Imp LoTP heal does a bit more work you might be able to do it. I think I'll just find a friend to help me out.

Just tried to solo as a lvl 80 crappily geared Disc priest, coming from Zul Drak and solo'ed every 3 man quest out there, i figured id clear this one from my book

1700+ bonus heal/damage(buffed)
16k+hp
17+k mana

Burned through mana before his hp hit 90k, being an alch, popped endless mana pot. Got him down below 80k popped shadowfiend. Got down to 20ish k maybe a bit less, and he stomped a mudhole in me.

Just managed to solo him as a blood spec dk with 3 loom items(chest shoulder axe) + northrend questing blues and greens survivability being important here just kept diseases up and used blood strike whenver it was up marked him and with my back to the mountain to avoid the pusback i didn`t even need to pop my ghoul or the pot

I can confirm that Level 74 Holy Paladin can solo this. Beat it the first time. Took about ten minutes, lol. Just make sure to not run out of mana and use your judgement of Light to get healed when it hits you. If you pace your attacks so you don't ever run out of mana you win.

Easily solo'd as 72 Blood DK in Northrend quest reward blues, some with defense on them. Frost presence, about 13k health. Just kept up diseases and hit with Death Strike, saved blood runes for Rune Tap. Ridiculously easy tbh. Used Icebound Fortitude once, but could easily do it without. Soloed more or less easily by a 72 BM hunter. Used a warp stalker with 11.5k hp for tanking (thanks to a set of high stam gear I keep in my bags for occasions like this). With the glyph of mending, was able to keep his health up most of the time, but had to use a bandage on him once when his health got too low for comfort.

Took a while but nothing really scary or complicated about the fight.

Many wrote this before me but here are my experiences:

Pretty damn hard fight to solo. As a lvl77 BM hunter i was able to solo him for the 2nd try. After my pet first died I put 1 point on phoenix, then he didnt die on the second try but who cares:) It is mostly about praying that your mendpet overheals the birds DPS. I popped every CD at the start, and changed to Viper druing halftime, then back to Dragonhawk. My pet stayed alive, i dmged him/her to death. Simple.

Is this quest bugged suddenly? I'm unable to summon him. Using the Skytalon Molts are now only producing the red text: Requires that you be closer to Alystros the Verdent Keeper.

I've tried using them all over near where he is, including his little island perch with the same results. I've completed this quest many times before with other toons and have never had this problem.

Soloed as a lvl 77 retri paladin in basic green/blue quest rewards. Regular dps cycle and FoL on every AoW proxx. Throw a Holy Light when health goes too low and make sure to stay out of her Dream area that she casts frequently as it makes ur casting time 100% slower.

Solo'd this as a Level 72 Demon warlock using a Felguard.
What I did:
1. Hit the guy with a curse. In this case I did weakness seeing as how my pet was doing most of the damage.
2. Tagged him with immolate, for the extra damage (and to make sure I actually counted as fighting him)
3. Spammed Health Funnel on my pet. (With Improved Health Funnel, this has an epic effect)

I repeated 2 whenever my pet was full on health then went back to 3 immediately. This strategy got him down in an ~~incredibly slow~~ rippingly fast 5 minutes.

Just watch out and make sure the combat doesn't get to close too the mountainside. The corpse of the stupid bird was on the side of the mountain and I was almost unable to loot him. Luckily I found a very percise spot on a nearby skeleton that I could use to loot him.

Two-playered this with a 72 bear druid and a 76 mage. I tanked it and popped all my CDs. Used super health potion and dismorphed to heal (no real effect since I ended up taking as much damage as I healed). Started off the fight by building rage on a flower mob nearby, then Berserking + Mangle spam on the boss itself.

Killed it with about 3% hp left. He's immune to stuns, so those of you who like to bandage yourselves may be in for a surprise.

Either the wyrmrest rep is wrong or it been increased. I just soloed this on my lvl 80 priest for the rep and got 501. I am human and I am still trying to figure out the math to get me to 501, maybe 455+10%.

Soloed as a 72 ret pally with some heirloom and quest gear. Used Seal Of Light, BoK, Devo aura, 20 stam food buff, and judgment of wisdom. I had to put every art of war that popped into a flash of light to keep my health up. I backed into the little corner of the tree where the root meets the trunk to prevent knock back from buffet. Bubbled 1st when my health got too low then used Lay on Hands after my bubble debuff faded. Also kept a health pot on stand-by just in case XD

An added note: This method works pretty well with the other wanted quests as well, save for Do Unto Others. Most of these mobs have knock backs so if you can control those abilities then you shouldn't have a problem killing them.

I used Gift of the Naaru when I had clearly lost some hp and also Enraged Regeneration some moments after that, to prevent hp from dipping down. When it was over I had 9.6k hp left so pretty doable since you could also use Shield Wall / Last Stand if you don't have GotN or Enraged Regen yet.

Just moved around the tree and kept demo shout & thunderclap on the target.

Solo'd without a pet (felpuppy got 2-shot on the initial pull). I pulled Alystros from BEHIND him in the water, which kept me away from any adds, and I let him knock me back repeatedly. Just kept dots up, and drain tanked him. Used 1 HS, 1 Pot. 2nd try.

Just soloed as a level 72 protection paladin, with crafted blacksmithing tanking set, rare quest rewards from Nexus, UK, AN and some normal dungeons drop.
Use SoL and BoS, remember to have your Divine plea on, and you will finish the fight with 100% mana and health.
Remember to hug with your back the wall, to avoid the knockbacking.

This was a breeze as a prot pally. Had questing greens with two or three blues thrown in there, with a Hellfire shield and a Mana Tombs sword. Didn't have to use any cooldowns, just did the rotation HoR -> Judgement -> Conc -> HoR -> Judgement -> Holy Wrath -> HoR -> Judgement -> HoR -> Judgement -> Holy Wrath -> Conc and repeat. You should be alternating Word of Glory and Shield of Righteousness. If you are going down really fast, though, just stick with word of glory. It was pretty much healing me to full every time.

For Hunters:

Have your Immolation Trap set up before you call Alystros 'The Verdant Keeper'. As he's flying down to you, send in your pet to attack, and slap a Mend Pet on him right away. Keep your Hunter's Mark on the owl along with Serpent Sting (as per usual). I used Chimera, Arcane, and Aimed shots as they were ready, and when they weren't ready I used Concussive, Steady Shot x2, and spammed Mend Pet. It's not too hard. Just use the shots you'd usually use, keep an eye on your pets health, if he does get close to dying try using Heart of the Pheonix.

Soloable as lvl 74 MM Hunter with dps pet (raptor) and not that great of armor. I had used a Scroll of Agility VII and eaten a Sporeling Snack prior to the fight (Sporeling Snacks are no longer in the game though).

Tried first in DPS kitty form -- I MIGHT have been able to do it if it hadn't been for a hunter that killed me.

Second try, I solo'ed him with ease in tanking bear form. Just keep up Lacerate and the rest of the usual abilites.

I noticed people were saying it was almost impossible to solo as a Mage, so I'm just chiming in here...

Solo'd as a 75 Arcane Mage. The trick is that when you use Mirror Image, while it's active, the mob treats your threat as 0. That means you are free to nuke for 30 seconds, or until your Images die, whichever happens first.

Luckily, Arcane, when left unhindered, can produce obscene amounts of damage quickly. So yeah, that's what I did. Mirror Image the mob after you pull it, then just Arcane Blast the crap out of him. Be sure to use all your cooldowns - Arcane Power, Mana Gem (for SP buff), also use Presence of Mind when you can.

I don't see it possible to solo him as Fire or Frost, I don't think they can produce enough DPS to kill him inside the Mirror Image timer.

You can also use the Mirror Image trick to solo the rest of the group quests in this zone.

Managed it as a quest-geared 73 BM Hunter, with a Kitty xD First time I tried, I got her to 50%, and that was keeping Mend Pet ticking, and using Heart of the Phoenix then we both hit the dust horribly - I ended up grabbing the Glyph of Mending just cause I was determined to try and get this done (and needed to get it anyway, cause lazy Clou is lazy xD). Kept Mend Pet up (healing for about 1K a tick), and threat-swapped around with Distracting Shot and Feign Death when my Kitty's health got too low for comfort. Had to use Heart of the Phoenix still, but we got it done ^^

None of the quest rewards were upgrades, but it was just a case of PRINCIPAL >:D

I was able to solo as a lvl 73 Feral druid with not so great gear. It took a bunch of attempts but was easy once I figured out how to fight the bird.

First, use your buffs and be in bear form.
Second, cast Barkskin when it is available.
Third, keep Lifebloom up, so pop in and out of Bear form and normal to cast Lifebloom.
Everytime it heals you recast it.
Rinse and repeat. Takes a while to kill the bird but once I had this motion down I did not drop below 95% life except maybe once.

You can use Survival Instincts and Frenzied Regeneration if needed but I did not need to use them.

Finally managed to solo this as 74 mage, took 5 tries before I got this down. First I tried as frost, but as you may know, Alystros is unstunnable, Unsnarable, Unrootable and moves at like a ridiculous 300% speed or something. Completely unkitable. I tried a few times with mirror images and pets nuking, but even glyphed, coldsnapped deep freeze nukes weren't enough to get him down before my mirror images died.

Instead I swapped to my dual spec arcane and prepared a little bit. Teleported to orgrimmar and bought some consumables (stack of Firecracker Salmon +46sp for 3gold, and 2 Spellpower elixirs for 5g, stack of potion of speed 500 haste for 12g ).

Then I glyphed for maximum burst damage.
Primes: Molten armor (+2% crit, for total +5% crit), and Arcane blast
Majors: Evocation (not needed) and Arcane Power (just to steal 1 extra global for popping images)
Minors: Mirror images (for arcane blasts)

That put me at 1389 spellpower with arcane intellect, food and elixir. (I have full BoA gear - staff, cloak, chest, shoulder, 2x trinket)

Then I initiated Alystros from maximum range with mana shield up, did 1 arcane barrage while she closed the distance, let her hit me once to get Incanters Absorption spellpower buff (think it gave me 100'ish extra SP) and then popped the magic Macro:

/cast potion of speed
/cast mana gem
/cast arcane power

Managem for the extra spellpower through improved mana gem talent (311 extra SP in my case).

and then mirror image, blink out to avoid his casting slow debuff and 12 chained Arcane blasts later he was dead. ended at 3942 DPS in recount for those curious, and I just barely managed before my last clone died.

It's doable, but crazy hard for a mage. And yes I got stubborn :p

This was a very easy solo-kill for my level 72 holy paladin - didn't even use any cooldowns, and finished off the fight with about 65% mana.

Kept seal of insight and blessing of might up, and hit judgement whenever possible for mana, hit holy shock for the exorcism procs, and for holy power to self-heal with, and other than that I just spammed exorcism.

I soloed this as a 75 shadow priest it was not easy I let my dots do the work and kept up mind flay I used bubble and spammed flash heal.

He will interrupt you and release something that decreases your haste get out of it. What you want to focus on is healing, don't let yourself get below 40% try to switch back to shadow form asap and just keep up dots and mind flay. Buff up as much as you can have healing pots on hand.

I tossed in my fiend for some extra damage. It took three-four tries. I don't remember just happy that its done.

I had no special gear just quest reward greens.

Soloed as a 73 feral bear druid. Mostly green gear so nothing special. Kept Lifebloom stacked to three, while its counting down, switch to bear form and do the following rotation:
Mangle
Lacerate on cooldown
Pulverize when you have extra rage
Maul when you have tons of extra rage
When Lifebloom times out and does the large heal, hit it again and stack it three times. It's best to keep Lifebloom in an action bar so you can click it while in bear form. This will switch you to humanoid form. Just switch to bear form as soon as you have Lifebloom stacked three times. Repeat this and Alystros will be down in about 5 minutes.

Solo'd as a 73 BM hunter with a turtle tank. Took no more than a few minutes, just made sure to keep Mend Pet up at all times, no danger of pet dying. All quest/leatherworking gear and a couple of dungeon blues.

Soloed with a 73 Death Knight (quest gear plus a few dungeon blues). Used a cookie cutter tanking blood spec, blood presence and my tanking gear set. My gear did not have any enchantments.

Used stamina food and Horn of Winter, but no other buffs. Put up Bone Shield in advance and let it cool down before entering the fight.

I failed several times, but it the end it was a clear victory. You have to be very disciplined with your rotation, and use everything at your disposal (Ghoul which you will Death Pact shortly before it despawns, Dancing Rune Weapon, all healing abilities, Death Strikes whenever possible, etc.). Your rotation should be Death Strikes and Heart Strikes, dump RP with Rune Strikes or Death Coil when near cap (do not forget you need 40 RP for Death Pact when the Ghoul gets close to its 1-minute lifetime). Keep your diseases up (use Festering Strikes to refresh).

I made no effort to move out of whatever AoE he did, I just positioned myself in front of the cliff to avoid knockbacks and focused on my DPS rotation and cooldowns.

It lasted pretty much exactly 90 seconds.

I also used a 2k health potion (with +50 RP, the one you get in the DK starting zone) as well as Gift of the Naaruu (Draenei heal).

With your DK you should definitely give this a try solo.

Perpetually kept an eye on and healed my tanking pet's health. Used hunter's mark, serpent sting, rapid fire and the kill command. Fervor and bestial wrath were also useful.

Just completed this quest tonight solo, lvl 75 Unholy DK, 15k health, no special gear (mainly greens and a few quest blues), only BC mods to gear (low level), no pots. The giant bird, Alystros, has been seriously nerfed. He is now lvl 74 non-elite, 29k health, and was a breeze to kill. No worries.

Those coords and instructions are good.
Did this a few minutes ago with a level 74 Pally providing heals, myself a level 73 Prot warrior. Was slow but easy, never at risk of losing the fight.
Tip for tanking: Make sure you stand with your back against a wall cos the quest objective has a knockback attack. The cliff face nearby will do just fine.

Just stayed in bear form the whole time, keeping up a 5-stack of Lacerate and using Swipe/Maul/Mangle on CD. Used barkskin on CD as well, and only had to use a runic health potion and enraged regen to heal.

Solo'd as a lvl 72 UH DK using frost presence. Wasn't particularly difficult and I finished at full health, though I am well geared with 16.5k health. Never fell below 11k. Just use Death Strike when it is available and keep dots up for the win. :)

I can feel that the shrine is not completely back in balance. The verdant keeper has been angered by our actions, and I sense that he will not listen to reason.

Alystros is an immense skytalon who perches at the south end of the Emerald Dragonshrine. It is he who is in charge of the dragonshrine's aerial defenses. I fear that we will have to deal with him.

Take these skytalon molts and place them on the ground where he can see them. He will come. Bring me his plume.
