As the item states, this quest requires Horde - Neutral and is as such not available for Alliance. Orb of Deception won't work.

This item has a very low drop rate (around 1,5-2%) and is dropped by all Burning Blade mobs around Thunder Axe Fortress (~54,26, upper middle part of the map) in Desolace.
There is no prequest and you do not need to be on any specific quest for the item to drop.
The quest is combinable with:
- Hand of Iruxos, https://www.wowhead.com/classic/quest=5381 (kill a summoned 37 Elite)
- Sceptre of Light, https://www.wowhead.com/classic/quest=5741 (get an item from a Seer in a tower)
- The Burning of Spirits (followup), https://www.wowhead.com/classic/quest=1435 (drain souls of any Burning Blade)

The quest has three followups. The two first ones are easy. The last one, The Corrupter (https://www.wowhead.com/classic/quest=1488), requires you to kill a 40 Elite and a normal 40 mob.

Does anyone know how rare a spawn this is (if
it is still a functional quest), and which
mob it was dropped from (for them)? I am having
a hell of a time getting the Flayed Demon Skin
to begin this quest...

Have a better chance at getting a purple drop !

After levelling 4 characters through desolace grinding about 5 lvls each at these guys I finally got one today off a reaver. I have some odd feeling this drop only activates after you accept the alliance relations quest..

Theres a quest similar to this in shimmering flats where the slithid bugs wont drop there carpace to start quest until you accept /finish a certain series of the swarm grows

It dropped for me while i was doin' the Burning Blade quest :)

First, you must speak with Craven Drok in the Cleft of Shadow for the quest "Alliance Relations". Then you must speak with Keldran in a small hut at the western gate of Orgrimmar. He sends you to talk with Takata in Desolace at the Ghost Walker outpost.
From there you can now speak with Maurin to get the quest, "The Burning of Spirits", to capture the souls of the Burning Blade orcs in the northern part of Desolace. During that quest, the Flayed Demon Skin will drop. I had 4 drop while collecting the 15 soul stones.

this quest is weird, for one thing i got it as the alliance and i can complete it...

While I was killing and doing quests in ThunderAxe today, the item dropped. Not once.. but 5 times, in less than 15 minutes.

Pretty annoying as I'm an Alliance character..

Greetings,

The trick is NOT to be looking for it and it will drop. I was wondering the Desolace looking for a cook book, came accross a mob that was a lil higher than me and I thought what the heck lets give it a try. It died and I got a flayed demon skin. Now what to do with it ...

im a 53 NE druid on Eldre'Thales realm i was seeing if u could get to mulgore from desolace ran up some burning blade path killed 1 guy at top cause he stunned me and got me off my mount guess what he droped it :)

well I got it as i was walking into desolace i thought it was the town but i was wrong killed one of those warlock guys and it dropped. i really hated desolace and I had 2 many quests so i dropped htat one and lost the skin didnt know it was so rare.

i was wandering through desolace 1st time with my character and i ran past a warlock guy he aggroed and i killed it and he dropped this thing ..
so my 1st EVER kill and i got it 1st time sooo pretty lucky wen u consider people spending 4 lvls on it

Thunder Axe fortress in Descolace the reavers drop these 3 out of 5 times..

with my my mage this item dropped at the frist bruning blade i was fighting at thunder axe fortress.. lol if you look at the drop rate its around 2% chance so pretty lucky!

Ok I've read many comments about the rarity of this drop, which I picked up off my first mob questing in Desolace, but does anyone know where i may turn it in? Is it part of a long chain quest to come......

I found the skin numerous times in thunder axe fortress. While doing one quest in there it dropped twice for me

I think i'm just having really bad luck. I killed over 100 Burning Blades and none of them dropped the Flayed Demon Skin.

Second mob - Burning Blade Adept at 57,28 dropped the Flayed Demon Skin.
