For low level pets that can eat fish--bears, boars, carrion birds, cats, crabs, crocolisks, turtles (fish eaters as of the WoW 1.9 patch) & wind serpents--this is far and away *the* bargain food over anything else. Only 20 copper for a stack of 5; 18 copper with the 10% Honored discount. No other vendor food at any level comes close.

Pets can get the maximum happiness available for a piece of food if the food is within 20 levels (or less) of them. So for any pet level 24 or below that can eat fish (and you want to save money and don't want to spend time fishing yourself), this is the ticket.

This is the most cost effective hunter pet food period.

If you have a cat always use this food to feed it. It's the best value by a country mile.

This food is "item level 15" and pets don't like food 30 levels below them, so this is the data you need to know:

Pet level 1-24 => 350 happiness
Pet level 25-34 => 175 happiness
Pet level 35-44 => 87.5 happiness

Pets have 1.000 max happiness.

So even the most expensive food in the game will only give 2x to 4x the happiness that this food gives to your pet while under level 45, which is 3/4 of the max level of the pet.
