The Hatetalon Stones are at 41,8. I spent like 20 minutes looking for it. If you go all the way to the north of the ruins you'll see two large stones and a smaller stone just north of them with a hole in the middle. You can use the horn there.

The horn is a drop off of any of the Hatetalons around the area, often times it will take awhile for it to drop.

The elite mob is easy to solo. Very low HP and armour. Taking the enemy as soon as possible is the best strategy, so make sure you use all you burst DPS abilites quickly. Also wait for your cooldown abilities to be available to you.

However, the most difficult part of the quest isn't killing Edana, but finding the Horn of Hatetalon. You normally get a drop after killing about 200 harpies. It is a good grinding spot though.

If you die, you're in for a LONG walk. There's a path up at 46,37. I hurried back and she was still spawned, so I didn't have to farm another horn.

Soloed as a 49 full fire mage without problems.. a mage could solo it in 47-48 even... just use mana shield alot and there will be no problems... and 40.8 is correct as OlZee says...

I soloed this as a level 46 shadow priest. Was a bit lucky because she didn't resist the fear 3 times in a row and mind flay always hits for full damage. The horn droprate is way too low though.

Just soloed as a level 47 warlock. Used my succubus and 1 healthstone. Just moved out of the way of her lightning storm so save damage. She is a 50 elite but very easy to kill. Drop rate varies, I have don this with other characters and sometimes it is frustrating although good XP othertimes lucky.

For Horde if you do die you walk all the way from Dire Maul, and it is a rather long walk.

Stay around the outer edges of the area. The paths are very tight, and the respawn is pretty fast so when they 'run' at the end you may aggro 2-3 more. Plus with all the pillars you lose sight of where they are. At 47 lock w/succubus the most I can handle is 2 at a time, or 2 and then 1 add near the 1st death so like 2.5/time. Good luck!

The horn is used up in the calling of edna so make sure you can kill her or your in for more long wasted hours of looking for it.

This quest is not worth doing. I spent almost 3 hours trying to get the item for the quest, and grinded over half of an unrested level. The pay off for this quest no where near worth the hassle it takes just to complete it. While it may be soloable, you will find yourself spending countless kills (Almost 300 on my part) to get an item that doesn't exist (Exaggeration and Irritation).

Finally finished this quest. Actually wasn't too hard. I got the horn somewhere between 10-12 kills. They must have fixed this quest in the last patch, cause it didn't take long to get the horn at all. About 15-20mins at the most. I was also doing the "Vengeance at the Northspring" quest, so while killing harpies it was helping me to finish that quest as well.

As for the stone, it is easy to find if you follow directions. Directly north of the building on the map you will see a bunch of pillars. You will see a rock with a BLUE FLAME burning in it. If you go directly EAST you will see two LARGE STONES that do not look like the regular pillars around you. They also have symbols on them. Walk between the stones and you see a smaller stone with yellowish glittery flicker inside a hole. All you have to do is stand in front of the small stone and then right-click the horn in your inventory. About 10--20secs later Edana will appear between the two larger stones.

I did this as a L56 Rogue and I was Stealthed. She never knew what hit her. I didn't use any poisons or evasion. I killed her with about 1100HP left. I can't see how anyone could solo her at anything L52 or higher. She was hitting me for 250-300 damage. A Warlock or Hunter would have an easy time with her, but some of the other classes will have problems. You only need two people to beat her with no problems. If you are L52+ you should be able to solo her. She's a L50 Elite by the way. She hits hard, but she doesn't attack fast. Good luck.

Couple things I want to make clear. Some of the descriptions and the map make it seem like the stones are in the mountains, like there's some path leading INTO the mountains. THIS IS NOT SO. The stones are on a sort of raised pavilion surrounded by pillars, just south of the mountains. At one end of the pavilion you'll see two very short pillars and between them and offset to the back a stone, with a swirly thing in the middle. That's where you stand and blow the horn to summon her.

Drop rate for the horn seems poor. I was there grinding, not really looking for the horn, cause them harpies are easy kills and drop mageweave. I probably killed about 150+ before the horn dropped. Funny thing - after I killed the elite and went back to grinding, the very next mob I killed dropped another horn.

The elite was easy for me (52 mage). Fireball, fireblast, counterspell, nova, fireball, etc. Her ranged attack can do significant damage but she switches to melee if you get close enough and her cast rate is slow. Probably didn't take off more than 1/4 my HP.

My suggestion is that if you are in a hurry and go there specifically for this one quest, it's probably not worth your time because of the poor drop rate. But if you are there to grind (these mobs drop good stuff for their level) then sooner or later the horn will drop for you.

Only rebubbled once in the battle.

The Quest takes place northern of feralas.

40,12 are the cord for the common area. Once you get near their are many harpys. Kill them until you get the horn. It took me about 30 kills before I got one.

Once you do that run to 40,8 on cords there is a medium stone with a blue light in there summon him with the horn you got.

It takes about 30 secs before he spawns. So buff up and get ready to fight!

Its a 50 elite that spawns as a 50 mage it was a really easy fight!

Xp at lvl 50 was 5900 so really decent

I soloed her as a lvl 48 hunter with a lvl 46 wolf as a pet. Getting the horn wasn't too hard, as I had another quest there to kill the harpies and it dropped within the first 10 kills. Killing her was a little more difficult, as her stormcloud attack drained a lot of my health. Even with a stamina buff (from food) and a superior health pot, I was less than 100 hp away from dying when I killed her. It wasn't a strategically difficult kill - it was just that damn stormcloud.

luckily I got the horn on the 2nd harpy.

She's a real easy elite for lvl 50. Just make sure to stun/silence her when she casts lightning.

I had to pop evasion, potion, prep, evasion again and killed her with 25% of my hp left.

The stone is a Tauren size rock sitting on the ground. It has a hole in it with some graphics effect within. If you come from the main path, its one of the first things you'd see at the ruin.

89 harpies to get the horn to drop. Follow kizzana's directions to the summoning spot -- they're spot on. It took a good 15 seconds or more for her to actually spawn after I used the horn, which had me a little worried at first.

Not particularly hard to solo as a 47 affliction warlock. Her lightning bolts and chain lightnings hit for just under 300, and the lightning cloud dot hits for about 200 per tick, so after taking a little beating from the lightning, I just started the fears while refreshing dots. There are no adds in the immediate area, so fearing is safe.

Tried looking for the location and it was a pain in the gnome, so here's a sure-fire way of getting to the summoning spot once you get the horn...

1. Head north on the road in Feralas until you enter the Ruins of Ravenwind area

2. Eventually, you'll see a 1/2-ruined Temple with a Gnoll named "Miblon Snarltooth" on your left (to the West).

3. Turn west (left) once you pass the temple - stay on the high ground around the temple so you're hugging the mountain-side to the north.

4. Ahead you'll see some ruins eventually with stone laterns lighting a path with blue glowing flames in the lanterns.

5. Where the path stops and the lanterns end, you'll see a fairly large rock with a hole cut out of it in the middle and glowy marble-looking orbs in the hole.

6. Stand right next to the stone so that you're basically touching it - then click on the horn. It takes 5 - 10 seconds for Edana to appear so don't be alarmed when you see the horn disappear. This should give you time to prepare for the fight. Edana casts lightning strikes so if you're Horde, if you happen to have a Shammy with you, have her drop grounding totem. She's lvl 50 elite I believe but don't quote me on it. There aren't any adds nearby so she should be solo-able.

I was in middle of doing the prequest of slaying all the bird looking thingsharpy's slayers, etc. when iwas on my way out i was attacked by one and i killed it then it dropped so i have to say it was the easiset thing

It took me way over an hour to complete this quest. From speaking with others, the normal harpy kills to get the horn drop varies from 60-90 kills. It took 71 for me. The location of the spot to use the horn is not clear from the quest. Use the horn in front of the large stone just outside the very north end of the empty ruin area. There is a lighted path leading to the stone from the east and a cobbled path to it leading north a few steps out of the unpopulated ruin area. The queen goes down like paper. Have fun!

PS- The horn is consumed when you trigger it, so I imaging failure to kill the queen will be punished by having to kill another 100 harpies for another horn.

the information in the post is right..easy to find now....just wanna warn ppl that if another player is first to damage the mob you loose your horn and your mob
the character zulku on stormrage was so rude to take my first mob when i blew the horn...such ppl should be banned ..they have no idea they ruin the game play for others by there cheating and leaning on hard work of others

I did it 49 lock cake just threw up CoA, Siphon life, Immolation, and Corruption then life drained her to the ground. I also had my imp out but she killed it first. Try to stay out of the Storm cloud aoe thats her biggest dmg. Found the horn about 10 kills after completing the other quest

I solo'd this as a 49 feral druid. It was a little tough. I had to heal a few times and use innervate as well as 1 healing pot, but for an elite she was easy.

Dunno how many kills I had... but pretty much .. over 35 that's for sure... anyway... she's easy to kill (if u are lvl 50-51) for me... was fun :)) I solo at lvl 53... she managed to get my mana to half and my minion's HP to 70% ... anyway just wanted to say, don't be mad u have to kill many harpies till u get the horn, I GOT AN EPIC. so.. keep on killing...

Just did this quest, 44 Hunter with a 48 Druid. Drop rate on the Horn varies widely, the Druid had pretty much completed doing Vengeance on the Northspring without getting the Horn but it dropped for me about 3 kills into it.

Like directions below say, the summoning area is at the extreme North end of the Ruins in an unpopulated area in a little unassuming spot with a stone that has a round hole in it and a little yellow light at 40 / 8. There's a lighted path right up to it from the east. It's not any of the blue campfires...

Once you summon her it takes about 30 seconds for her to appear about 30 feet south from the summoning stone between 2 pillars . She can nuke pretty hard, we had her down to half health pretty quick with Druid meleeing and my pet tanking when she let loose with an area effect that dropped the Druid with almost full health in a few seconds before he could switch forms and heal himself. I had to quickly heal pet and finish her off solo. It was close, my pet and I were down to very low health by the end without having to resort to any potions so I figure a prepared lvl 50 could solo her...

Did her solo as a 49 Shaman. I did use a health stone AND a Superior Healing Potion, but she died and I had about 50% hitpoints. Just earth shock her casts and hang in there. She hits for 200-400ish. Nice belt.

The rock you need to use the horn at is @ 40,7. It has a yellow glow in the middle of the hole.

And it took me about 40 kills to get my horn. I'd say it's worth it though, so give it a shot!

This is my 4th 60 but the summon point seems to has change, not sure of the coor. but it is at the entrance to the cicle of the coor. pointed out in this strain, and it seems to take 3 secs for him/her to appear, it may be interface lag, or just a side affect of 2.0

Soloed at level 47 with my elemental shamy. It was tough. I died when she was of 350 hp, then i reincarnated and killed her. I used one mana potion for level 35.
I took the horn at the 10th harpy and then summoned her at 40,8

As a level 48 Druid a level 60 and myself probably killed 80-90 Harpies before the horn finally dropped.

XP was 5900.

solo'd as a 48 loc.. use curse of tongues and I only used death coil no other fear. other than that dots (not curse of agony) and soul fire and shadow bolt simple kill for a lvl 50 leet. used 1 health stone

did not fight like an elite what so ever

She died and i still had half my heath no heals at all ... pretty ez just random dot's and wrathed the occasional moonspam when i got frustrated ....... MOONKIN FTW! the stones arent really stones there like lil lamps of blue flame kinda NE lamps ..... i got horn while finishing vengence quest ... :)

I currently have both this quest and the so-called "prerequisite" in my quest log, so I think that's wrong.

As an aside, it took me seven kills to get the horn. Now I just need to kill her.

The Hatetalon stones are right at 40.08. There are 2 big stones and one small stone with a hole in it. Just use the horn right near there to summon her. This was cake as a 49 fully beast spec hunter. Pet only got down to about 1000 health. Mind you I do have the precisely calibrated boomstick epic but I believe this would be an easy fight for most.

Funny thing is that I was joking with my brother saying "I'll probably find an epic before this quest item drops" and I did. Found Stonerender Gauntlets (the crapiest epics ever but hey) before I found the heart. Haha.

Had a problem on classic with this quest, you use horn but she doesn't spawn but you still lose horn. When you farmed it for 30 mins it's painful

DO NOT SUMMON before EDNA CORPSE disappear.

If you do that, your item just goes away. and nothing will be summoned.

Let the corpse disappear.

By far one of the most tedious and overly annoying quests in the game. The drop rate for the horn is absolutely shocking.
Avoid this quest unless you miraculously get the horn within a few kills.

Still as bugged as ever.

Murdered god knows how many harpies for the horn, waited for Edana's corpse to despawn from someone else's kill, used the horn aaaand.....nothing. No spawn and no horn to try again.

Press L > Select "Dark Heart" > Click Abandon Quest.

Wow. Absolutely THE most frustrating quest I have ever encountered.

Definitely should have given up WAY before I did but I was getting some herbs and wicked claws dropping, which one of my guild mates needed so I kept going.

Here is my experience:

I killed 200+ harpies before the horn finally dropped. Finally got the stupid horn and summoned Edana Hatetalon. She was definitely NOT soloable as a lvl 48 elemental shaman. Died once during the fight, used reincarnation to come back and heal and she STILL took me down. She hits VERY HARD so I'd recommend bringing a friend (or better yet just skipping this quest altogether). And, of course, the horn is destroyed on use so you only get ONE chance to kill her.

When I finally died for good I resurrected at an ALLIANCE graveyard and had to hearth out.

Completely ridiculous.

Solo'd at lvl 48 as a resto shaman. Died a few times and logged off.
Bad idea as the Horn is used on summon so had to grind another drop.
When it finally dropped I took no chances. I used agility elixer, Armour elixer and a nature resist potion.
Summoned Edana and interrupted as many casts as I could. Move out of Storm cloud is she successfully casts it.
Healed a couple times and got her down.

This might be the most cruel quest in the game.

Attempted this one in SoM, I grinded ~72,364 exp. as a level 49 killing these harpies looking for the quest item. At ~280-290 exp. per harpie, that means I killed around 245 harpies before I finally cut my losses and gave up.

Some RNG but I got the quest item fairly quick--before I killed all the harpies for the other quest in this area. Level 50 feral druid in tank form with food buffs. Not too hard to solo but had to use stun and then cast a heal, a bit later on used warstomp as another stun for a heal, then popped a potion as she went down. She hits too hard to be in cat form for this I had an easier time grinding her down in tank form.

Edana Hatetalon is the queen of the Northspring harpies that reside in the ruins to the west. She is pure evil; I have heard that her heart is one of crystal. She is void of any emotion aside from the hate she feels towards all others. You must face Edana and bring me back her dark heart.

I have heard of a horn that harpies carry -- blowing it by the Hatetalon stones, in the northern part of the ruins, will summon the queen.

Imagine her surprise when it is not her kin calling her, but her death.
