Continuing to celebrate the release of Diablo Immortal, Blizzard has
released an infographic
featuring some of the game wide stats amassed in the two weeks since its launch on June 2nd.
10 million downloads
is also a major milestone for the developer, making Immortal the biggest launch in franchise history. Although that number is certainly inflated due to it being a free game rather than a paid one, it continues to top charts on mobile device stores and appears to be raking in cash. Using data from Appmagic and Gamedev Reports, Pocket Gamer has reported
Diablo Immortal at over $24 million dollars in revenue
from iOS and Android store spending over the last two weeks, with the United States accounting for the largest portion: generating 43% of total revenue, despite only amounting to 26% of total game downloads. It's important to note that this report doesn't include spending from China where the game hasn't even been released yet, which is expected to be another big market despite
delaying the launch to July 7th
.
These numbers paint something of a sharp contrast with the high volume of complaints made against the game recently, as Immortal has been subject to severe criticisms over overt advertising and
Pay to Win mechanics
, to the point where it has become the
lowest user reviewed game of all time
on Metacritic. In spite of this, the game quickly skyrocketed to
#1 on the Apple and Google app stores
in its first week and has maintained a comfortable standing in the top ten, while the revenue it's generating would paint the game as a success from at least a financial standpoint, especially for players who've managed to enjoy it without paying anything at all - a direct reflection of just how polarizing the game has been.
