BFA Leveling Tips

Don't vendor green or better gear! Even if you're not an enchanter, you're able to scrap BFA gear for reagents and, more importantly, Espulsom. Expulsom is the Battle for Azeroth version of the Sangue di Sargeras, used in many 120 crafts. For more information on how to activate the scrapper and use it, check our Scrapper Guide!

Quest to the end of every zone! The final storyline quest for each zone offers a piece of 280 Azerite gear that will aid on your leveling and give your gear a nice item level bump, regardless of what level you're at when you complete the quest. Non-Azerite pieces of gear will only reach that item level around level 119.

Skip dungeons! With the experience changes to dungeons that came with Patch 8.0, it isn't that worth spamming them anymore. If you want, you can do dungeons while you have a quest for them (which happens at the very end of each zone), but those only grant a few extra experience and gold.

Enable War Mode! War Mode is a new PvP setting introduced on the Battle for Azeroth pre-patch, that flags you for PvP. In exchange, you will receive 10% (or more, if your faction is outnumbered) more experience from monster kills and quests. Unless you start the War Campaign, you won't leave your faction's continent, so you are not very likely to find yourself in PvP situations, at least on the first couple of days. ... But disable War Mode for the War Campaign! It is recommended to save the War Campaign steps until you're level 119, so you can do all 3 footholds in a single run. War Mode means you will be flagged to PvP right on the heart of the enemy territory, which usually means you might waste some time on PvP situations. You can turn War Mode off at any rest area, but only turn it back on in Stormwind or Orgrimmar. For more information on the War Campaign steps, check our Alliance and Horde War Campaign Guides!

Do Legion and Faction Assaults! Even after level 110, Legion Assaults still give you a considerable chunk of experience for very little work. Completing Faction Assaults grants you Sapore della Vittoria for 1 hour, another source of extra experience. You can check when Legion Assaults will be available on our Legion Tracker (US / EU), or check when Faction Assaults are available at the "Today in WoW" section of Wowhead's front page.

Useful Items and ConsumablesHeirlooms

Fodero d'Arma per Cimelio Veterano - Upgrade a heirloom weapon to scale to Level 120. Costs or can be purchased for some holiday currencies such as Distintivo Fuoritempo. Because it is unlikely you have upgraded heirloom weapons to 110 due to Artifact Weapons in Legion, you will have to make sure to purchase the 110 upgrade as well.

Rivestimento d'Armatura per Cimelio Veterano - Upgrade a heirloom armor, trinket, shield or off-hand to scale to Level 120. Costs or purchased for some holiday currencies. Unfortunately, while Heirloom Helm, Shoulders, and Chest give the increased experience, they are significantly weaker in player strength than the Azerite Armor available for those slots.

Experience Increases

Fiasca delle Dieci Terre/Fiasca delle Dieci Terre Increases all stats by 20 and increases experience gained by 10% for 1 hour. Really cheap, if you're willing to part with some Warfront Service Medals.

Rubellite Natante: New Jewelcrafting gems that increase experience gains. You can purchase these off the Auction House for fairly cheap. If you're having a hard time finding sockets in your gear, Jewelcrafting Rings starting at level 111 have a guaranteed socket!

Speed Increases

Kit dell'Aliante dei Goblin - Allows you to glide and cross over long distances. A staple of leveling in non-fly zones, and incredibly cheap to boot. Especially useful in Zuldazar.

Calzature Gonfiabili per Cavalcature/Gerridi dei Lancialenza - Especially useful in Kul Tiras, those mounts can walk over water.

Aquatic Mounts - Those mounts only work underwater, and are much faster than your usual swim speed. Also useful for underwater questing, somewhat prominent in Kul Tiras.

Pozione del Passo Celeste - Sprint that is faster than ground mount speed.

Pozione della Velocità Draenoriana - Swimming speed increase that is higher than the water mounts. Useful for quickly dashing from one water area to another, or if you want to move faster while in combat.

General Consumables

Pozione del Potere Prolungato - Incredibly cheap to make even at Rank 1, those last for a minute and bump your primary stat. Can be bound to all your spells for maximum usage.

Runa del Potenziamento Forgialuce/Runa del Potenziamento Profanato - Simple, 1h primary damage boost. Even better if you have access to the Lightforged version.

Tamburi della Furia/Tamburi della Montagna - For classes without Heroism/Bloodlust, great way to make quick work of harder quests. Has the same side-effects of having a forced 10-minute cooldown.

Pancetta Croccante - If you aren't dying, this is a great way of increasing your food buff timer without having to eat them again. Can be used to increase food buff timers to a maximum of 6 hours.

Stat Foods - Good way to boost secondary stats, not as effective on higher levels.

Banchetto di Pesce in Crosta - Fills up your health in 10 seconds, and provides a Versatility food buff after just 1-second eating.

Miscellaneous Items

Redini del Mammut del Viaggiatore della Tundra/Redini dello Yak della Grande Spedizione - Mounts with vendors on them, allowing you to repair or empty your bags without having to return to a city area for a vendor.

Stendardo da Battaglia della Coordinazione - Together with the weaker Stendardo dell'Unità and Stendardo della Cooperazione, those increase experience gained from kills when standing up to 100 yards away from the banner. Great when leveling on higher density areas, even better when you have friends that can cycle those.

Fulminatore a Scambio - Useful when leveling with friends, to help them get into places they can't reach.

Scudiero d'Argento/Peone d'Argento with Briglie del Pony d'Argento: Mailbox or bank on the fly on a 3 hour cooldown. Useful to send reagents over to alts or to help empty bag space.

Fischietto di Katy - Same as above, now in Toy form.

Mantello della Coordinazione/Mantello della Coordinazione: Quick teleport back to Stormwind or Orgrimmar, useful to quickly turn War Mode on. For a more effective usage, make sure you set your Hearthstone to Boralus, Dazar'alor, or your current questing area before using this.

Mappa d'Esplorazione della Brigata dell'Onore, Mappa d'Esplorazione della VII Legione: These items unlock after completing Battle for Azeroth Pathfinder Part 1, and can be used to learn all important flight paths in Kul Tiras and Zandalar. Having those learned beforehand saves on travel time from area to area.

Useful Legendaries

Segreto di Sephuz: - Passively provides 10% movement speed, with that bonus increased to 70% when landing a CC or an interrupt. During the leveling process, it should be easy to maintain this item active at almost all times. The extra haste is a mini Heroism/Bloodlust and is also incredibly useful. Also has a socket for Rubellite Natante!

Desiderio Ardente di Kil'jaeden: Deals somewhat strong AOE damage for the lower portion of Battle for Azeroth leveling. Useful for all classes and specializations.

Class Leveling GuidesUseful Addons

AutoVendor - Quickly sells gray items and BOP items your class cannot use. Can also be tailored to auto repair when you approach a repair vendor, and to sell items below a certain level.

Azeroth Auto Pilot - Skips cinematics, provides leveling routes, and much more. Updated for Battle for Azeroth, might not be entirely accurate on your first go.

FasterLoot - Increases looting speed so you instantly open, loot, and close loot boxes. Useful since many items are not sent to your mailbox if you leave them to rot on a mob.

From my personal experience, I've noticed that doing dungeons are not that bad at all as it gives hefty amount of experiences also not to mention the Azerite gears we'll get from dungeons. So I'd suggest to do random dungeons with friend(s) if you want to speed up your leveling.

Re: Crispy Bacon - This only seems to work on Legion stat foods. When used on BfA stat foods like Loa Loaf, it removes the stat buff.

Also note that BfA stat foods scale with your character level. So while Loa Loaf increases your mastery by +12 at 110, the benefit increases to +52 mastery at 120.

It's been about 18 hours since BfA came out and having War mode enabled is already a no go if you don't want to get ganked. Nice guide.

If your only goal is to level, then the absolute quickest way to do this is to challenge all the Battle Pet Trainers in Azeroth, Outland and Draenor, saving Kul Tiras and Zandalar for last. You'll get over 16k xp for each battle. There are about 80 tamers in the old zones plus a whole bunch in Draenor and the Broken Isles.

If the heirloom bonuses still work (not sure), then you can earn up to 50% more. That's 25k xp for each battle.

I'm not suggesting this, I'm just pointing out that pet battle xp scale to your current level. So if you're goal is to level quickly, this is a very easy way to do it.

This is craftable at BFA Jewelcrafting level 1, so it should be available to you right away. And at this point can be found in the auction house for a few gold.

Before you start -- here's basic information on Dual Specialization, reforging, transmogrifying dual wield weapons and Looking for Group in Battle for Azeroth.

DUAL SPEC

1. You'll need to carry 2 sets of weapons, azerite armor & non-azerite armor.

Non-azerite armor

Carries alternate primary stats (as in Legion) that change when you change spec.
Decide if you like the stat priority for your second spec.
You can quest in one spec and change your loot specialization (right click on your portrait for menu).

Azerite armor: head, shoulders, chest (spiky blue border around icon)

Quest in either spec. Change spec before selecting azerite traits.
Traits vary by slot, the name of the piece and ilevel.
For each new piece of azerite armor, check out the traits available for each spec -- before you click "OK". Some trait choices are better than others.
You retain your Cuore di Azeroth power level when you switch specs -- unlike Legion.

2. The Azerite Reforgers: Raz Il Plasmatore in Boralus & Nudara il Plasmatore in Dazar'alor
(No Reforgers in Stormwind or Orgrimmar)

Use the Azerite Reforger when you want to change traits you previously selected. No worries. This isn't trait roulette like it was for Draenor followers. You will have paired choices for each piece of armor.

Equip the spec & piece you want to reforge.
The Azerite Reforger opens a box. Open your Character window and drag the azerite piece into the box. Accept cost (or shut window).
The piece automatically jumps back into your Character pane.
Message next to piece outlined in yellow:"A new power is available. Shift Right Click to view." This opens the trait wheel.

More:

If the Azerite Reforger says "There is nothing to reforge", ignore it (a bug).
Beware escalating pricing for each item reforged. It seems prices fall if you don't reforge for a while.

3. Use the Equipment Manager (Icon is a silver helm & armor at the top of your character window)

Gear must be carried in your bags.
Create a "set" for the gear you have equipped: +New Set > Enter set name > Choose an icon > OK.
Click on the small "Settings" cog wheel and select your spec. When you change specs, your armor should automatically change.5 (As of 8.2 the armor set often doesn't automatically change when you change spec. So you'll have to open the character pane and select the set you want and click on "Equip".)
When you get new gear, update sets in the Equipment Manager.

Updating gear in the Equipment Manager

The Equipment Manager uses a Character pane for each set. It does not automatically update to match the gear your character has equipped.

Check your spec before updating gear in the Equipment Manager.
Click on the set name. Do not click “Equip”.
Drag new gear into slots. "Save".

Error message when you highlight a set:
“You are missing items and this set cannot be equipped.”(The set can look mixed up.)

Drag the gear you want into the Equipment Manager pane.
Save set and close.

What to do if you’ve highlighted 2 sets and can’t de-select either?

Edit:: Try clicking on the set you want to "Equip", then "Save". This will often work.
~~IMO~~ Sometimes this crash can be fixed only by deleting one or both sets.

Anything else?

You can drag the icons for sets on to a secondary action bar. Clicking an icon instantly changes your gear.

Transmogrifying dual wield weapons using Legion artifact appearances

Click on the main hand weapon slot (left). Then click on the down arrow next to weapon type you have equipped (like sword). You'll see 2 radio buttons: Weapon type and Legion artifact. Selecting Legion will display your artifact appearances.
Beware. If you click on the offhand weapon slot and select "Legion artifact", you will see a blank page. This is probably because both weapons will have the same appearance applied. But there is no explanatory message...

Looking for Group (LFG): Automatic invitation was discontinued in early BfA > frequent "Declined" messages

Edit As of 8.2, I'm happy to say many 5-man and world boss quests (raid size) are now auto-fill. When BfA was introduced, auto-fill had been removed, which affected player morale and slowed down group formation. Players creating groups still don't have the ability to check or uncheck autofill.

If the quest suggests 3 or more players, you'll still see an eyeball next to the Quest title. Go ahead and click but -- don't be discouraged if you see a "Declined" message.
"Declined" can mean a group is full (a group can only have 5 members to get quest credit). "Declined" can also mean the group was just delisted or the organizer seeks certain classes, specs or ilevels. But for BfA general quests and World Quests, it often means the player who clicked on "There is no group, do you want to create a group?" -- and created a new group -- isn't aware that they have to actively review applicants.
When applicants are pending, the eyeball next to the mini-map will flash and whine. Click on the eyeball to open the list of applicants. (If you have the lead, it can be tough to keep an eye on the LFG eyeball on the mini-map once the target is engaged.)
If the group leader doesn't review applicants as they come in, the 5 minute clock will run down and the applicant will automatically get a "Declined" message. The group leader won't know why no one wants to join and the applicant won't know why they didn't make the cut.

LFG Alternatives

Group Options
1. Hang out around your target. Wait for players of either faction to show up.
You can "Invite" another player of your faction, but that's optional.
How to: click on player's portrait. Right click on "Invite" from list of interactive choices.
2. Open chat chanels or
Ask if anyone is doing the quest. If they Whisper you, click on the name in chat, then right click on "Invite".
3. Start a group
Click on the eyeball next to the quest > box opens > enter a title and description > click on "List". Or click on the eyeball at the bottom right of the screen. Select Pre-made > custom group > start a group > list group. Give the group a title and add a description. Include: WM on (War Mode on) or WM off (War Mode off). You can't have more than 5 in a group for quest credit. But I don't see ppl saying their group is limited to 5.
If the eyeball on the mini-map starts to flash and makes a whining sound, you have applicants for your group. Click the eyeball to open list of pending applicants. Clicking automatically opens the gray Group box (on the left side the screen). It shows a list pending applicants by class color, role and ilevel.
You have to click "Invite" or "Decline" next to the name of each applicant. Close the box when done. Doing nothing is a decline after 5 minutes.
When 4 applicants are accepted, you'll get a message: turn the group into a raid or delist. If you do nothing the group will automatically be delisted.
But as players leave, enrollment automatically opens again.

If someone else created the group and people start to leave, you may find the crown next to your portrait. You are now the lead. It will be up to you to act on pending applicants. If you've completed the quest, you can just leave the group.

I have a 119 BE monk that is halfway into getting to 120 but there are no more quests or content to finish other than killing mobs for XP which is slow. Is there a better way to finish getting to 120?

After I completed all zones on my main, I was discouraged to go through them AGAIN on 6 other chars. I forced myself to start leveling a hunter in Stormsong (because I find the zone very well made, just like Drustvar - but while I liked the story there, there are really many questlines). When I hit 112 after a couple of hours, I decided to try island expeditions. And this turned out to be way more fun. I leveled through expeditions in a couple of days, each level taking on average 1 hour 15 minutes, so I'd say the same speed as if I were questing. I got a couple of pets and toys, and like 60 dubloons. I also started leveling my rogue - I first got him to 112/113 through expeditions, then I did whole Tiragarde. And from 115 to 120 I was doing only expeditions and war campaign. I plan to do only one whole zone on each character because if I was doing them all I'd probably go crazy.

Comment on the use of War Mode during leveling. Personal choice on whether you quest with it on or not. Current perk for alliance is 30%, so huge boost but does risk ganking. Having said that, some low risk times to use it (specifically for alliance but concept should apply to both):

1) Any time you are turning in a quest in Boralus, hit the portals, turn on war mode, portal back and turn in the quest. Boost for zero risk of PVP and since the portals are right there takes almost no additional time. This is especially true for things like profession quests.

2) War mode risk while questing varies highly with the zone. Drustvar carries the highest amount of risk as Horde and Alliance objectives tend to overlap most there. Stormsong Valley is only slightly risky if you stick to the main story line...if you do side quests more likely to overlap. Tiragarde Sound is likely to be the safest with least overlap (on main story line). If you have a max level toon on the opposite faction, you can easily check to see where world quests are happening and avoid that zone/quest area.

3) HIGHLY recommend War Mode for parts of the War Campaign. Specifically, Nazmir quests take place almost exclusively in a zoned environment. In leveling 12 Alliance alts I have literally never even seen a Horde player while doing that zone for War Campaign. Zuldazar carries moderate risk. Some Horde overlap in first quest area of that zone but virtually none on second area. Vol'dun carries the highest risk and highly likely to encounter Horde at the Terrace of the Devoted. However, even there the first few quests are zoned, so zero risk. The Terrace of the Devoted is a rest area so if you find you are getting ganked, easy enough to rez inside, turn off war mode and finish up. The significant boost to XP is well worth it. In sum, at least one of the three zones carries virtually zero risk. Each War Campaign area delivers about half a level w/o rested boost so don't recommend waiting until the end - good way to break things up a bit and get a quick half level plus.

4) You can now turn war mode off in any resting area (although must be in faction city to turn on). A good strategy is to start with it on and if you find you are getting ganked to the point the time investment isn't worth the bonus XP, you can shut it off almost anywhere and continue questing. Doesn't hurt to start out and see how it goes - the XP boost is well worth it (particularly after you have done the zones half a dozen times...)

I am really curious about this. I'm lvl 118, and legion assault expedition rewards 900 xp with warmode enabled + bfa potion + 5% xp gem (no heirloom). which is.... nothing ? so, can someone explain this ? thanks !

Drustvar it is! I came here looking for basically exactly this, without realizing it.

I'm just starting BFA, right before SL, and I got a lot of characters that are pretty decked out; with my Druid, DH, DK and Paladin all having (what were) BiS legendary items for each spec, and about a 50/50 mix of Norm and Heroic raid gear from the end of Legion. I wanted to play my Druid 'first' to 120, via questing and getting caught up to speed on things, but it was hard enough just deciding what spec to play!

I want to maximize the fun I can have with these legendary items (going Guardian with Lady and the Child and Fury of Nature woo!) and that line was basically the best 'guide' I could have hoped for, even though I didn't realize what my specific question was until I saw the answer. LOL

Setting Chromie time to Outland (Maybe any expansion? Have not tested.) Then going to Eastern Plague Lands and WPL and killing rares nets you around 7,500xp(Rested, non War Mode) per rare kill. They usually respawn in around 30 minutes and the area is full of them.
