This, without the boots, is a nice starting set for a Hunter (or enhancement Shaman) looking at running MC. As a crafted set lacking rare/40-man raid materials, it's attainable to those characters, and unlike green-of-whatever gear, it has both DPS related stats and FR. Obviously, including the boots only makes the set better, but these are much harder to attain for the pre- and early MC characters due to the MC mats needed.

The whole Black Dragonmail set comes especially handy before the next "Before the Storm" patch release with attack power nerf for hunters. Also, it gives almost 2% chance to crit, calculated with the new critting mechanics, against the old 1%.

This is a very good set for hunters it helped me a lot with FR in MC and BWL it is not very good stats other then the FR though

Seems like the best Hunter set out of the three Dragon Mail sets. Attack Power and Stamina are very important, and the FR doesn't hurt either.

with this (3 pieces)I have 202 stam and 296 agi + 220 ap (144 ap from BD set); so it gives my hunter 1170 ranged attack power (about 152 dps), 3,9k hp, huge crit chance, and big chance to survive in melee - its a best pve "blue" set for hunters, maybe not a lot but better than BS (combined for exemple with DM stuffs)

Like I said on this forum - with this, my hunter have about 1170 RANGED attack power (some people with full GS with about 420 agi have ranged attack power like me, my friends with full BS have about 100 ranged ap. less)- OFC +attack power gives a boost for melee and RANGED attack power - so pls ppl like that noob who said that BD mail is ONLY for melee (survival) hunters - STFU and read more :/

i sat down today working out the mix of Black Dragonscale and Blending Beast Stalker into it Here are the stats

Most MC guilds save the Firey and Lava Core drops for crafting items for the Melee classes as it makes the raid stronger as a whole. You can run numbers all day to find the "best" combination of bonuses but try to be realistic.

Between this set, the Drakenfire Amulet, and a few other odds and ends you can easily survive in MC with a good group.

With full beast stalkers I have 450agi, 1270 AP, and with my ancient bone bow I do 150.5 dps. 3900hp, and 3200 mana.

However, fire resistance for the win...I totally would pick this over my beast stalkers strickly for MC. I have the shoulders and ironically sold all my black dragonscales the other day...wish I would have kept them.

Guild is doing MC in two weeks for the first time, I plan on having enough money to buy all the pieces then. Just hope there on sale.

Well, thats interesting. Ive got Full Liutenant Commander armor set with Agi/ Int enchants, and with various blue+purple items I got 385 Agility, 1130 RAP, and I do 156.5 dps. I also have 4770 Health and 2990 mana. And thats unbuffed ofcource, With AoH on.

Oh, and as for the Black Dragonscale set: Its a plain beauty. I allready got the Chest-Leggings-Shoulders, and I only miss 2 more Lava Cores to make the Boots. This is by far the best set that a Hunter can have upon entering the Onyxia/ MC/ BWL instances. Combine it with a few other items like the Drakefire Amulet, fire res trinkets and rings, and you can have 110+ fire resistance unbuffed, witch is fair enough for a hunter in those instances. I use the 3 pieces I have along with some other fire res equipment when I face General Drakkisath in UBRS and do the Hunter super pulling trick. With 2 talent points also spent on improved feign death, I always manage to survive the General after pulling him away from the final room.

And, talking about Survival Hunters: Survival Hunters are not ALWAYS melee Hunters. I am Survival 31/ Marksman 20, and I can tell you that I melee ONLY 1% of my total playing time in any instance. Survival Hunters are mainly ranged DPS/ crowd control players. With Wyvern Sting and improved Freezing Trap (talent points on trap mastery etc) a Survival Hunter can use feing death to put himself in/out of combat and keep 2 (!) mobs away from combat at the same time, for a full12 and 18 seconds respectively. NOt to mention the pulling and the tracking abilities...

Would you guys sugest using this set, with various other pieces over Beaststalkers set for PvPing?
If you used this you would pretty much have to keep the raid build 00/31/20

i have the chest pants and shoulders of black dragon(chance to hit 1% chance to crit 2% )

boots gloves helm and wrist of beastalker set (+200armor +40 ap)

timbermaw belt +40 ap
dal rend arms +50 ap/1% crit
seal of eldre`thalas +42 ap
blackhands breadth +2% crit

315 agi 3000 armor(some agi enchants ofcourse)
fully speced (aspect of hawk, trueshot and huntersmark(+120 ap )gives me 1505 AP !
spec 7 / 34 / 10

so you might consider rethinking your meanings of bs and bdm in pvp action ..

newer had any probs with this set in any pvp fights
(better than full bs set (have this aswell)

I am not one of the best ppl in pvp but i always end up on the top 5 list of most hk/kb in av ...so the set must have something to do with that i think....

TRy it dont think you will regret it...

if you are an ally hunter in bronzebeard eu...you probably hate my guts...

lol i have a 60 hunter Estallen Khazgoroth DS leatherworker and yes i have this set....and yes u do need fire resistance for MC this armour is great for it, dont listen to anyone who says fire resistance isnt needed....theyr probly already dead

ok first of all if u want to fight up against rag or even ony u need at least 125 fr unbuffed k and high end guilds wont let u in if u dont have ur resistance hight

You do NOT need 125 FR for Ony as a hunter. I'm just fine with my regular t1 mixed gear. Just stay on the ledges when she does her deep breath, and make sure you let the tank get his/her aggro back after phase 2. As far as MC goes, FR is only really needed on Rag, before that i don't bother putting it on and do just fine. Just learn how to control you're aggro. If MT's have threat meter in your guild that's really helpful.

I have 3 parts of this set (which is easily replaced by greens from outland now) BUT...

I no longer get the bonus from the set as of the latest update, I'm not sure if it's a "paperdoll" (visial) issue or I actually don't get them, anyone know?
