This drop rate is TERRIBLE. Well, I guess there's worse out there, but it's still a pain.

I would recommend killing these whilst doing other quests instead of just focusing on this one alone. The fledglings drop them the easiest I've noticed. But still not every time. Good luck :)

Had to kill over 100 of these god damn things to get 8. They changed the drop rate big time with 1.3 patch.

try Chillwind Ravager north of town.
30%~50% drop rate

it drops the most off the fledging chillwinds, from my experience it was about 50%... barely off the ravagers or the chimaeras - less than 10%

Around the hill (62,55) there are spawning 10 of them .... its quite easy to manage the quest !

the ravagers have about a 50% drop rate. i suggest killing those if you are high enough level

You can find tons of them @ 61,44 with a 75% drop rate.

I got my 8 horns on 14 kills of Chillwind Chimaeras, north of Everlook. I'm guessing the previous complaints about the insanely horrible drop rate were from prior patches, and it was eventually improved by blizzard.

Thottbot is dead wrong. I've killed a ^&*!load of all of the mobs that drop the horns and they don't drop #$%^.

yea ive been to every place recommended by the above posters... ive killed more than 50 mobs... if u wanna farm brilliant scales and forked tongues this is the quest for u.

umm yea... dont forget to leave that UBRS raid from last night :P

Just grind it out and you'll have eight Horns. This quest is end-game so you shouldn't expect to have the quest reward handed to you on a platter.

Yeah, the drop rate stil sucks no matter what you kill. It's just a pain in the ass to grind it all.

- the quest text does say chillwind chimera - i got 0% drop rate off of ravagers, but that's just me. killed approx 20-25.

- the hill to the north, slightly east, of winterfall village has about 8-10 chimera at any one time.

- clearing the hill as a 58 warlock yielded 4 horns the 1st time. 2nd clearing yielded 3. In frustration i headed to the fledgelings at the location listed above (near frostfire hotsprings.) Killed 5 (the 5th one dropped the last horn i needed.)

Went to a couple places on the eastern part of WinterSpring that were listed earlier. Got a couple of horns. Kept wondering and at 60,22 found a whole bunch of Ravagers.

I think I killed about 25 and got all 8 horns.

this quest has been the worst experience in the whole game. the drop rate is somewhere around 5% so you gotta kill hundreds of these...

On the other hand I have gotten 53016exp grinding these...

I started out, killing the Chillwind Chimera's and got 3 of the 8 that i needed then after reading some of the posts here i switched to the Fledglings and got 2 more(had to kill about 12 of them to get 2)
i then started killing the Ravagers and got the last 3 in about 15 minutes, in all i spent about an hour on the quest not too bad overall. The Ravagers did seem to have the best drop rate of all of them. I was a 55 hunter when i did this

Got my first item after 19 Fledglings then i got it 100%

Chillwind Chimaera (51 - 57) 14.59% (148,625)
Chillwind Ravager (52 - 59) 4.25% (241,448)
Fledgling Chillwind (49 - 55) 17.64% (72,595)

Actually the numbers listed on this site for quest drops is inaccurate. it doesn't factor in if the person killing the mob has the quest or not.

Did this quest on my lock at 52 and noticed that the chillwind chimaera and ravagers would drop them like once every 7-8 mobs. I was at 66,30 and the spawn rate just sucked. There were a lot of ravagers but it was harder for me to take em out due to lvl and their high resists. So I went to go do the Threat of winterfall quest and started kiling the Fledgling versions of these that are near Winterfall furbolgs and I got 3 of them after killing 10. I didn't do the entire 8 off the Fledglings but I did notice drop rate was better off of em. Not to mention I was able to do a 2nd quest in the same area and the mobs dropped a lot faster. Coords was around 44,42 area.

As "Doomrogras" mentions, the numbers on the site don't reflect the fact that a lot of people kill the Ravagers while not on the quest, so they can't possibly get the horn to drop.

Anyway, I found that the Ravager drop rate is actually quite a bit higher (about 1/3 or 1/4). Whatever it is exactly, it's way better than the drop rate on any of the other ones.

The Ravagers also have the advantage of being very closely packed so that you can kill more of them all at once and spend less time walking between kills.
