For all you aspiring Paladin tanks I would HIGHLY recomend this breastplate (and the entire set for that matter) especially since it appears to have been buffed again. It used to only have 17 defense now its up to 25 that is a great upgrade. Not to mention that the mana regen coupled with spiritual attunement I don't think mana is no longer an issue.

Warriors get most of their rage from being hit.

Paladins get their 'rage' by being healed.

Must be a mood thing.

Definitely one of the better looking armors (whole set) in the game. Stats arent that great (imo), but they are ok.

Seems Blizzard likes to give nice gfx to crappy or mediocre items, and crappy gfx to the good stuff. Hopefully the new coming patch will fix that..hehe.

For your information, Corpselight Greaves actually match the set better (in terms of the graphics) than the actual set boots.

Blizzard announced that they are going to nerf +DEF on all armor by as much as 30%. Expect the defense rating on this item to drop after patch 1.7 to 17.5 defense (+17/+18 defense).

Deathbone Chestplate + Deathbone Sabatons seems to be the best set of choice for DEF warriors with the upcoming 1.7 patch. With this combo you get +25 def (16-17 in new patch) from the BP and +5 def (3 in new patch) from the boots as a set bonus. The Deathbone boots are the best Deathbone set piece to wear for the set +def bonus since there are no non-epic boots that add +def. So with this combo, you will likely get around +19-20 def with the new patch.

If you compare this to Ornate Adamantium/Kromcrush BP with Valor/Ribsteel Boots, going to Deathbone BP+Boots you lose around 150AC and 11-18 stam. However, you gain 9-10 DEF.

What it seems to boil down to is that if you want over 400 defense in 1.7 on, you really have no choice but to go with the Deathbone BP, and the Deathbone boots are a nice addition as well for the set +def bonus, as every point of def counts now.

this set is still useful in endgame for me. with the right enchantments, its viable for MC use i think. the set bonuses are great, and the resistance especially will come in handy. just enchant the stuff and it can still compete with the likes of valor.

As the stats indicate - DB Chestplate is only +17 def and the set bonus is onlly +3%, as I can confirm the set bonus - as I have everything except the chestplate.

They should have at least added some Stam and/or some Strength to compensate. :(

Got everything but the belt in 2 runs. It seems pretty decent for tanking and the BP was definately better than my Warrior's embrace from ST.

Im not sure if this or the Ornate Adamantium is better. Im almost at the end of the chain for it and i dont know if i should just get the necklace or get the chest piece

this is a fantastic piece of tanking armor that I currently wear to tank in MC. The AC is a little low and the stats are not great except that enormous +def boost. I had to roll 100/100 to beat a pally for it (he rolled 96) and then he threw a fit because its "Paladin armor all the way". Silly pallies. I need to get back into Scholo and pick up AD rep anyhow. I had the belt but DE'd it like a moron (have stalwart clutch equipped +8 def) but to get all the def bonuses AND the +15% resist....wow....until MC and my dice become more generous (no, we don't use DKP) it would serve well until Might comes.

It seems with 1.10 this Set will become much better for tanking and especially Paladin-Tanks.

All items will become rare items an the whole Set will give you +62 defense, 24 mana / 5s and +70 Stamina.
Add to these some Core Armor Kits and Items with +Int and you have good tanking gear for a Paladin.

Fortunately i still have 4 of the 5 Set-Items in the bank. When tanking in small Groups I think i will give them a try over my T1/T2-Parts.

It is very obviously a paladin chest... The crappy thing is that there aren't much other chests with defense, so warriors will roll on this. I would really like to have this chest, but I can understand that a warrior needs it way harder then me... I've seen it drop 3 times, and was never able to roll on it because the warriors needed. Well, Paladins who say it is more suited for them are right. But since there aren't much warrior breastplates, I think warriors should get prio on this item. I don't know how warriors play and what they need, but I assume this item is better then Ornate Adamantium Breastplate.

Ah well, I'll get it one day... Untill then I'll stick with my Plate of the Shaman King (which prolly is the best small instance healadin chestpiece)...

There are great for warriors.

These are great for pallies.

I play a warrior. I would want this set because short of purples it's the best tanking set in the game.

But if there was a pally in the group, I would let him need over me. However, that's just me. This isn't pally only gear, not at all - Blizz would have added Classes: Paladin if it were - but it isn't, because it can (and should) be used by BOTH. "But it's got mana regen, whine, whine, whine". Because there are NO INT STAT BONUSES. If there weren't a regen tick on these, I'm sorry, pallies wouldn't even get a look in over prot warriors, and rightly so. The mana regen is there BECAUSE THIS CAN BE USED BY EITHER CLASS. The mana tick is *not* a "subtle clue" that this is a pally exclusive set. It means they can use it TOO.

As for pallies vs. warrior tanking... *sigh* it's an old and tired debate. Blizz are working on making pallies better at it, which is as it should be IMO. But *until* pallies get the equivalent of a Taunt or a Sunder or a Demo Shout that DOESN'T cost mana (rage is perpetual, see) even a non-prot specced warrior will gain and hold aggro better than any ret. specced pally. And that's the definition of "tanking" - it's not just about wearing plate and soaking up damage.

This is the truth. Deal with it .. or don't. But slagging other classes, when you don't understand the nuances of each (and yes, I have a 60 pally alt too), just reveals your own ignorance.

This is a god set for pallys, but the def bonus makes it good for wars too. Holy pally's (ironically) might find this set most useful do to the mana regen. Combine that with BoW and you could restore your mana rather quickly. This is good to use whn you havent found your lightforge or valor piece yet. I got the gauntlets last night. With my BoW, that 40 mana per 5 secs for me. Pretty nice whn i need to backup heal. i also like to tun scholo a lot so the mana regen is good for my excessive use of exorcism.

i just go kicked from my scholo group becase as a warrior i was in much need of +DEF items i rolled need and of course the paladin started whining and he was with his guild who just wouldn't drop the fact that it had +mana regen and would look over the +def.

So they called me loads of rude words and even though i won the roll they would not let me have and i got kicked from party. Damn its hard to convience peeps that tanks need this as well.

This is the only paladin set blizzard ever made to make palas more "warrior". All the others are full with intelect and nothing made to help you in melee. I say this is set is best for paladins and then warriors, because to tank good as a pala you need to have on "Righteous Fury" and you need intelect for holy dmg to keep aggro. Also like all tanks you need sta and defence.

I want you guys to look at ANY warrior set that adds +def and see if you can find one that has a total max defense bonus better than this set.

Long story short. There isn't one. It is the best defensive tanking set out there, and with a few other goods, ie Drakks Shield, Grand Marshall Morris necklace, a cape of defense, and a few enchantments, you can have your defense at 425+, making you almost completely invulnerably (I say almost, because there is an off chance that a 62+ elite boss can still do it) to crits.

My advise is get this gear, defensive tanks. Then, go get the enchanted thorium set. Use this et for all meelee tanking, and the thorium set against casters. Thse two sets of armor will get you well into raid status, so you can get all that nice tier you wanted since spawning.

ok i am a pally and this is my 1st full set like all of you should i have more then one set of armour for me it a healing set and this. i like to say is this set has more then a PvE use to it. i had this het on in AV and i owned with it. i went up on a one on one with a warrior and he could not touch me i never healed once in the hole fight. and he forced to use a healing pot th keep in par with me. in the end i won cuz of all that +def. my point is don't look at every thing and say how will this help me PvE. some items might be better of for you to have for PvPing

If there is a protection paladin in the group when this drops he should have the right to roll on it. I am a 60 protection paladin, with a build of 20/31/0. Holy Shield allows me to hold aggro and not let it go, as long as I have a nice flow of mana regeneration I can hold aggro. Warriors argue they can "hold aggro better", but if you are specced correctly paladins can tank. Paladins can hold aggro as long as a warrior doesn't come in and steal it. Last time this dropped I got it over a warrior and the warrior got ticked. But then a miracle happened, the same set piece dropped again on the next boss, so the warrior didn't stay ticked off. Truely, the Deathbone set is for warriors and paladins. It's not for one of both, just for either.

I have a paladin in full judgement, all epic'ed out. I am spec'ed 30/21/0 (Full PvE) and basically spec'ed for healing and tanking. I can tank AoE better then any warrior can. I did a scholo run last night with 3 mages and a priest. I would consencrate once, mages AoE'ed a second later and I never lost aggro.

This is where I found this item set. I got the legs last night. And even with all my epics, this set ownz for tanking more then my epic tanking set. That mana regen is amazing!

A must get for every paladin who wants to tank

seriously, pallies attracts agro mostly from dps but cant hold it, warriors gets agro from using heaps of rage and holds it, thats why pallies shouldnt tank if theres a warrior, and pallies just put on their increased agro aura then whack away while warriors tirelessly taunt, sunder, shield bash, shield block, revenge *repeat* , i personally like partying with a pally for off tanking and buffs but i dont think they should MT.

Its a sure cool set.. but i just don't see the point when valor is about 2x better. Valor is harder to get i know but aside from looking cool, its not good for much else.

Paladin's don't tank.. They never have and never will. If you have a Paladin as MT for any instance I'd be amazed if he did half a good as job as any prot spec warrior could.

On another note, why did they add this mana regen crap? I'm a 60 prot spec, just turned arms/fury warrior, I'm only wearing this till I can get something more suited to my new build, however in the mean time I want my spirit back.

Why are there so many pally haters? Are you wars so afraid of losing your place? I have tanked from BRD to Scholo to Baron to Scarlet Strat and I have done way better than tons of wars I have grouped with. I group with a war all the time and even she is impressed. Though she does tank better than I. I am still able to hold it if she goes down. BoS FTW. Wars are still the primary Tanks but Pallys if done right can fill in the Tanking role in some cases. Just need to be spect right.

Wow...

This armor has become a (Non-epic'd) tankadin's dream IMO. And since it's only 5 pieces, you can still wear the Soulforge Helm, Bracers, and Spaulders.

Given, the lack of int will hurt when given the steep costs of spells like consecrate and Holy Shield. But the mana regen is wonderful. And you could always enchant your bracers with more int or regen and the chest with mana.

Full suit plys the 3 soulforge listed above would give you (including bonuses):

3597 Armor
35 strength
107 stamina
37 int
12 spirit
1% spell crit
32 Damage/healing
28 mana/ 5 sec
62 defense
23 all resists
1% Parry

All in all, I see this as being a very viable tankadin suit.

Why is it everyone that say a paladin cant tank is pretty much a warrior? afraid u wont get acess 2 every group as easy as u got it right now?

A paladin can tank just as well as a warrior sure we dont got aggro moves like u but instead we got some great moves 2 take less dmg and we can get an aoe aggro that last for more than 5sec.

I tankede all instances with my pala with no problems. Heck last night i was the mt and main healer in a strat scarlet group at the same time and we still managede 2 do it easy.

There are very few chest pieces that compare and even fewer that are better. Any experienced warrior that has dissed this piece with idiocy, please, delete your warrior and never play again.

Or, try tanking in MC w/ out +Defense. Then try it w/ it. Yeah. See the difference? No, your IQ is too low? Oh..okay.

Actually pally prot spec has a better tanking talents than warrior does, and my main's a tank... only problem is pally doesn't have fast agro abilities like war does so once they lost that agro it's very hard for them to get it back.
but I agree, +def and +mana at a single item sucks because it does half the job -.-

Blizzard removed spirit from these and added mana regen to the set pieces.

This is NOT exclusively a paladin set and it is NOT exclusively a warrior set. It's a set for both.

I think with the 100HP enchant the deathbone become superior to the OAB, but yeah it doesnt look nice like it... Plus you go this way and you can choose Mark of Fordring instead of the OAB and have a top pvp neckclace.. almost the same as the epic one from Hakkar...

ok, this is what i hate about argueing about wow, people just assume its all in the class, well, it isnt. I have a 60 warrior and a 60 Paladin. Honestly what i dont think alot of the posting pallies r realizing is most of those warriors they were with in the 5 man places werent speced to tank, many are arms and fury. also, pallies are a shakey class, i will agree that they r a noob class because for sum reason alot of people who dont know how to play the class choose them, a good pally can tank if he knows how to do it right, but most pallies suck. also, warriors need to stop being ignorant and thinking that they are imedeatly the best at all of this. because i have seen sum well geared warriors who r just plain &*!@ty. basicly, who gives a @#$%. also, reminder to those who have forgotten, it is a game, yes, a game, so wut is the point of freaking out on the internet about it, alot of people need to mellow out.

The question regarding paladins playing tanks as opposed to warriors. Paladins that try to tank often have some skill in it ... warriors on the other hand often lack it. This is mainly due to the fact that some warrios seam to think that "hey im a warrior im great to tank", and hence ther eare many crap tankers out there. My point beeing, if you find a pala tank they are more likely to be good at it.

surprisingly, this is by far the best non-purple Molten Core and Onyxia Main Tank chest ingame. facing the first bosses in MC nothing matters on the MT except +defense, for the most part we try and have our MT's at 430+ defense skill and this is about the only chest ingame with + defense.

This is not true, Ornate Adamantium Breastplate is a way better chest. It is easy to get max defense without having to sacrifice good stats on chest and wearing crap like this.

Pally set all the way, but if a warrior needs better armor, he should be able to roll, good armor/stam/def. I hate Pallys, but that's why I'm on the horde :D.

I hate to break it to everyone, but pallies can tank just fine in all the 5-15 man instances. Most people who think they can't either have never played one, or don't know how, so it's ignorance speaking. Pallies have several threat increasing abilities, mostly tied to holy damage, and have a few different ways to unload holy burst and holy DOT damage.

True, warriors do it more easilly, which is how it should be, and a pally is not going to MT 40-man raid instances but up till then, which this set is designed for, they do just fine. No one is going to take a pally in full deathbone to BWL so relax please. Blizz is just giving players more of an option when putting together groups.

This dropped in scholo last night (one of many plates pieces that were to drop and I got by being the only warrior) Hindsight I should have just opted this to be DE'd, but I don't know when I'll finish the quest that nets me the Ornate Adamantium Breastplate. Hopefully sometime sooon since I'm not that far from completing that.

i hate blizzard for taking off the spirit and addin that it restores mana now it will let paladins think they can tank even more and get this over warriors but if i was leader in scholo raid i still wouldnt let a pali roll for it unless the warrior already had it PALIS CANT TANK SO STOP CALLING YOURSELF TANKADIN'S BECAUSE THERE IS NO USE FOR YOU so respecc and get a 2h instead of using a 1h

lol i knew as soon as i saw this set and came to its forum id have a bunch of pallys and warriors arguing over who can tank better and yes a pally in epics is going to put out alot of aggro fast.

However hes gotta have stats in spirit int etc to do that which means hes never goint to take the pain as well as a warrior since we only as before mentioned have a few stats to moniter and we dont have to watch our mana while building threat either.

im not saying a paladin cant tank and im not saying he cant gather threat as well as a warrior but fact is lads i dont have much raid experience but what i do NOT see is raid groups full of paladin tanks so clearly warrior = superior tank. As indeed it should be lol paladins always want everything there own way whine were a secondary class but we wanna heal like a priest tank like a warrior and dps like a mage ... cry harder

This item has far too little stamina to be good for a warrior tank. A warrior would go for the enchanted thorium breastplate or the adamantium breastplate. We get our +defense elsewhere, thank you.

No doubt warrs need +def and +sta on the tanking gear but it anyway makes me laugh when I see +int or +manareg on a warr wearing item :)
And yes, warriors dont have to be afraid - Im in my hardest nightmare wont tank in 40-man unless theres not enough warrs in raid for a dog pack.
And yes, warriors have to be afraid cos I outtank them in 5-10man in any way (2nd tanked only once in ZG and did well). Imp.fury does the wonder - warr can tank only those 6 taunt-secs =>

well i got this and i think the boots on my warrior, cause i cant get any better plate to drop for me and when it does i get out rolled for it, but one thing i do alot of i compare what i have with what others are wearing and to my surprise its a pretty good set of armor full all around, i also do alot of pvping and find it not hindering my whoopass ablity none, granted the spirit isnt much help, but look at in this sense atleast itll help my health while out of battle refill faster. also see it dropping alot in scholo alot.
