This is probably one of the best necklaces in-game for those that can't raid and get any raid dungeon items.

Mark of Fordring - 26 AP, 14 Crit. strike rating

In order to get it, you must complete a series of quests from Tirion Fordring in EPL, near Terrorweb Path. He will first have 3 quests:
Blood Tinged Skies (30 Plaguebats)
Carrion Grubbage (15 Slabs of Carrion Worm Meat)
Demon Dogs (20 Plaguehound Runts, 5 Plaguehounds and 5 Frenzied Plaguehounds)

He will ask you to listen to his story then, go to Caer Darrow to find Artist Renfray and hear what has become of the painting 'Of Love and Family', go to Stratholme (Balnazzar side) and find it, return to him and get the quest 'In Dreams'.

guy is on eastern side of river, between plaguelands, just go north until you get to him, 1st you have to do 3 kill quests, and then 2 easy, one not so easy in strat and finally not so easy one in hearthglen:P

Stratholme, Scarlet side you have to loot the picture in the room with the archivist right before balnazzar. Then you get a pimp scarlet discuise and go to hearthglen. Solo. Talk to main boss, 63 elite, then he wipes the floor with everything on the way out. At the last tower he dies, to another 63 elite and 5 60 elite adds. Thats the tough part. But i'm a rogue. Stealth and vanish when needed. After he dies Tirion comes and kills everything. Prolly be easy for a pally too, but everyone else may need a healer or group to help keep them alive. Also rewards are 800 armor plate chest with 22 stam. 52 dps 2-hand mace. And some other stuff.

easy as a rogue, all u have to do is stealth the whole way since he hits hella hard and he drops lvl 58 elite mobs in a matter of seconds , plus he got a ton of hit points to boot!

BTW disguising as a scarlet is fun :D

But from a previous comment I was lead to believe that you could solo this as a rogue. I see no way possible of getting to the painting on your own.

When you enter Strath you can go either left or right. If you go right you come to a locked gate that if you try to open you pull aggro and die. If you go left you come to a gate which traps you inside while you get mauled by 10 or so 54+ plague rats.

I see no way of getting around this. I think I'm just completely misunderstanding or something here.

On the last part of the quest where he dies to the 63 elite + several 60 elites, all you have to do is stay out of aggro range and watch. You don't have to fight at all.

As of the latest patch I don't think this can be solo'd. There is a part where 2 big gates drop and you are attacked by many rats. You can't kill them and you can't vanish. Sprinting through doesn't help either because the rats chase you.

Here's how I solo'd the stratholme part last night as a 60 rogue.

Enter through the service entrance instead of the main entrance. Instead of heading straight like you're going to UD strat hang a left at the very beginning through the big opened gate. Once through the gate go right and follow that road to the opened gate where the scarlet guys start. To get through this undead area stay in the middle of the road to avoid the supply boxes. There's a narrow part of the road where ghosts sometimes spawn, I was able to escape from them by hitting sprint and then vanishing a few steps later. My general tactic was to sprint as far as possible through that area while stealthed. If an eye sees you you'll probably die from the gargoyles it spawns, if that happens just come back and try again, the gargoyles will stay visible so you can avoid them (they see thru stealth btw). You'll die a few times at the beginning but I didn't have much trouble getting through after all the traps and eyes were exposed. There is nothing to open if you go this way, you just need to get through without being removed from stealth.

Once you're into the scarlet area just stealth through mobs and stay away from the supply boxes near the first scarlet guys. There are two locked doors you need to pick to reach the Archivist. The first one was guarded by 3 guys when I went. I sapped one, rocket helmeted another (works like sap, engineering only) and blinded the 3rd while I opened the door. Then I vanished. No deaths. The second door was guarded by 4 58 elites. I distracted them and sapped the nearest and tried to open the door without aggroing them, but they came and killed me. Second try I sapped the nearest and downed a limited invulnerability potion. It lasts for 6 seconds which I think is how long it takes to pick a door. It ran out before I picked it but I was able to get it open before they interrupted me. I think I died afterward.

At that point you can walk all the way to the Archivist's room. There are 2 guys in there with him, I sapped one and rocket helmeted the other. Then I threw a masterwork target dummy and a thornling seed from Dire Maul on the ground. Both draw aggro from nearby mobs until destroyed. The first time I tried another limited invulnerability potion but it won't let you loot the picture while 'immune'. Paid for that information with yet another corpse run. The second time I screwed up my sap and got killed. The third time I sapped, rocket helmeted, threw both the seed and the dummy on the ground, and was able to loot the picture before the Archivist beat me down.

Took me maybe 2 hours and I died probably 6-7 times. It was a lot of fun though, certainly moreso than a 5-man scarlet run. A lot of my time was spent waiting for cooldowns on the rocket helmet, etc. It helps a lot to have preparation in case you need a second vanish, etc.

If you're not an engineer it'll be harder but you can collect similar items elsewhere that anyone can use. Check out slumber sand and magic dust for sleeping people and the aforementioned thornling seeds from DM pods for tanking while you loot the picture. I still haven't tried this but can you blind someone, hit prep, then blind someone else? You might be able to use a pet like the mechanical yeti to tank for you. It would be tight but you could also use improved gouge on a guy to buy yourself 6.5 seconds.

Also it looks like this may become much harder in patch 1.6 since they'll be adding the ability to see through stealth to more mobs in Strat. They're fixing Detect Traps so that it will show you trapped supply boxes, though, which is nice.

Be creative :) Just reporting that it absolutely can be done solo as a rogue, I did this on Llane if you want to pop on and ask me about it. I love playing a rogue :) Good luck!

When i did the last part of the Quest at Harthglen i died at the part with the tower. I got the Message that the Quest failed. Where can i pick up the Quest again?

If you die and fail, there is a timer on the quest- It takes a while to reset.

The first time i tried my armor was all red and i failed ;( At first i went back and there was no quest. confused and angered i turned off WoW. about 6 hours later the quest was available again from the guy. you just have to put your costume back on by talking to the crazy lady and go visit the dood that you escort. Dont worry you can try it as many times as you want, just have to wait.

As per my post above on 10/10/05, i went through the instance in a 10 man raid group.

I was able to loot the picture in a 1 man raid group. I was the raid leader AND the last person in the raid.

The painting that you need is in Archivist Galford's room, just across from Balnazzar. After you kill Galford and Balnazzar, which is the end of the instance anyway, just have the raid group kill the scourge mob that spawns in the hallway after Balnazzar's death, wait until everyone leaves the group, then go in the Archivists room and loot the picture.

this was in version 1.7

and i found in allakhazam that someone said it still works in 1.8, just make sure that you meet the conditions.

Got mine yesterday after I looted the painting in Scarlet. BTW, the raid trick to loot the painting by being the leader and last member of the raid does NOT work as of patch 1.84. Just 5-man it, it's nice and simple. The Hearthglen part is very easy, just find the guy upstairs in the keep, talk to him, he walks down the road owning people, you stay in disguise the whole time, then he gets killed. Then Tirion comes and rapes em all with his leet pally hax. If you die, do not release until the quest says complete, otherwise it'll fail you. Talk to Tirion after you complete it to chose your reward.

OK well.... i did the first 3 parts of the quest when i was trying to get to 60... now 6 months later i wanna finish it to get the necklace i i went to the farmer guy on the eastern side of the river and he offers no quest, is there anouther quest giver in the quest chain or when i abandonded did i screw myself over?

What's better, this or the epic you get from Darkmoon Faire for turning in tickets? (I'm a rogue) I already have this one, should I even put the time into getting the one from the Faire?

just a comment for warriors with fury specks that even think about getting this item, the plate chest that you also can take, is 10 times better for a warrior, reason why? there are alot of 5 man instances, u dont often come in as a dps warrior, you will be tank, the 800 armor is alot armor for a quest item, the 10 icnrease defence DAMN NICE and the loads of stamina, makes this a *!@#TY good chest!

you get this up the river between east/west plaguelands, off a guy u do the quests he has and it's a reward from one of them

Where is the grave that you need to get the hammer from located at ?

Talk to Tirion Fordring, he is at the top of the river right on the border between East & West Plaguelands.

He'll have 3 quests for you to kill certain mobs. After you have completed all 3, he will then have another quest where you examine a grave & kill a 57 & 3 55s and loot his sons hammer off the 57.

Finally youll go to a lake in NE & examine the item on the lakes bottom (not that deep). He'll then tell you of a painting in which you swim the the island and talk to a ghost NPC there. She tells you its on a wall in Strath. The painting is by a boss room there, dont remember which one.
