For lower levels those are true, but due to my non-streamlined quest finishing method I've slaughtered the Sheinor villages multiple times now. For myself, they seem to actually drop more light feathers than either the above when I farmed them.

The added benefit, if this is just luck, is the Shienor offer Netherweave, Runecloth and the reputation quest items Arakkoa Feathers. So you can make a decent buck farming light feathers for yourself.

Another great place (at least for Horde) is The Screeching Canyon southwest of Freewind Post in Thousand Needles. If you're not strictly farming light feathers, you can get a lot of wool and silk cloth off of the harpies to sell on the AH for some extra bonus cash.

Easy to find in Plainstriders around Crossroads

There's a great spot for them behind West of Moonbrook in Westfall - about 4 Buzzards in a graveyard that respawn really fast.

just north west of cross roads in the barrons, i got 20 easily in under 20 minutes, just kill it if it has wings. it droped about 1 in 3 birds

I was just outside of Auberdine skilling up in daggers and got 17 of these in 20 kills of the birds that run all around there. I dont remember the name of them but just go right outside Auberdine and kill any bird you see. They are lvl 11-13 so easier than in other places and MUCH better drop rate I found than in Westfall even by Moonbrook.

I used to be able to scoot through Westfall, and in 10 minutes, have 20 or more of the light feathers. Not so anymore! I killed probably 40 birds in Westfall today and got ZILCH. So I took a boat to Ratchet, and did a little bit better outside Crossroads, but it's still no where NEAR as high a drop rate as it used to be. To get 25 feathers, it took around an hour today.

Sigh.

Blood Fury Harpies in Stonetalon Mountains, charred vale. farmed three stacks of 20 in an hour or so. theres lots of mobs, they respawn pretty quick.

now my priest can levitate all she wants! =D

The Crossroads in the barrens, north, nw, and west of there, more plainstriders than you poke a bloody dagger at. Just farmed 25 in less than 20 mins. Happy flying dudes.

Recently on the Zul'Jinn server, there has been a jump in the pricing. I took advantage of it when I discovered a 60 farming outside of sentinel hill. When I started making 1g or 2g on stacks of 4 and 5, my friend got jealous and sold 20 light feathers for the same price I was offering. Now that the market price on these have bounced back up, he is now taking advantage of the market on these and selling 20 for 8g buyout.

i don't use the light feathers on my mage - it just takes up a slot! It's used for Slow fall, but I never use it, so there is no point in getting the light feathers!

yeah thats prety normal, high lvl Mages would rather buy the feathers than go and farm them. I have a mage myself and because you can charge so much I sell most the feathers I collect, rather than keeping them for myself lol

Priests also uses them for levitate. It might be possible to get even more than 6 g for 20.

Trivia:

In the cartoon movie Dumbo (1941 from Disney), Dumbo the big eared elephant "needed" a feather in order to levitate as well.

Best way to farm some gold at low level.
Average price on Whitemane (US PvP) is 25-35 silver per 1 feather.

Best place by far to farm these is in Thousand Needles, there's a harpy cave around 27,52 that constantly spawns as you're killing. Drop rate is just south of 50%, can farm several stacks in half an hour. Good luck ZG boosters!
