As a level 60 warlock I could solo these guys... I'm off to have a go at 70 since I'm finally doing my Doomguard quest. Should be easy.

Tried this quest when I was 60 with my level 60 druid friend, we got a few down but then gave up because it was to hard and we only had one tear so far...came back when I was 64, was able to solo them but killed tons so far and haven't gotten any other tears. Died twice, might just come back at 70 (plenty of felcloth dropping tho) :) I wish this drop rate was better for me

When you got the quest, its like 50% drop chance, i killed 8 of those demons, and then were done, kinda hard alone, i had a friend to help me.

I had 3 ppl with me fighting those demons for about 45 minutes-1 hour. I was the only one needing the tears and just after that time I had the 5 complete!

so much for 50%...

TLDR: Farm the slayers at the entrance to the gorge. Keep them feared, cycle CoD + other dots.

This is soloable, but it's definitely not easy.
For me, farming the Hederine Slayers at the entrance to the gorge to be the best approach. There are Hederine Initiates as well just behind them but they were the ones that got me.

Creature Details
Slayers have approx 17-18k hp and hit for 670-700 on average per hit. They are not immune to fear and that's what I exploited to get the job done. Cycling Curse of Doom and Corruption and keeping them feared literally the whole time. I'm a DS/Ruin warlock and I had sacrificed my succubus for the extra shadow damage.

Initiates only have about 12k hp but they cycle shadow bolt and immolate and the shadow bolt hits for about 800 so it's not feasible to soak it with shadow ward.

Honestly, I didn't try with the manastalkers so I can't really comment on them.

Good to Know
A few unlucky resisted fears and you'll be in trouble. Make sure you always have a healthstone and some health potions for backup just in case. Also - expect your fear to break early. Just take it slow, be patient and you should be able to kill each slayer in 2 curse of dooms or less. I recommend against trying to nuke it with shadow bolts, but if you can get a lucky crit with improved shadow bolt, it does add an extra 1k roughly to your curse of doom.
I found that spamming shadow bolt just didn't do enough damage to justify the mana drain and breaking fear even earlier.

Other strategies say cycle banish rank 1 and 2 (equating to 50 seconds banished) with curse of doom but it just didn't work that well for me.

My Stats At The Time
Shadow Spell Power: 246 + an extra 15% damage from Touch of Shadow (Succubus sacrifice)

Droprate: 5 Tears of the Hederine in 11 kills.
Extra notable drops: 3 Demonic Runes + 2 Felcloth

While you're there
Don't forget to visit Vi'el <Exotic Reagent Merchant>. After the first group of slayers, go up the ramp to the right (there's usually a manastalker in the way but you should be able to walk around it on the left side of the ramp). This guy stocks Felcloth for 80s per unit. Not a bad idea to check back in with him while you're waiting for respawns.

I strongly recommend farming Hederine Initiates (Succubus) since they
1) have ~ 2/3 the HP of the Slayers/Manastalkers, and
2) deal only magical damage, which can be pretty much entirely avoided by using your felhunter.

Put your dots up and start spamming shadow bolt; it shouldn't even be necessary to use fear.
They will cast shadow bolt at you; this can be cancelled using your felhunter's spell lock. Or you can just absorb the damage using shadow ward. It doesn't hurt to get a priest friend to buff you with shadow protection either.
The spell lock will prevent the Initiate from casting shadow spells, so she will immolate you/your felhunter. Simply dispel the immolate.
The initiate will now be dead, and with any luck you will collect your Tears of the Hederine,
That's pretty much all there is to it.
