The actual schematic says something to the effect of it summoning an Alarm-O-Bot which lasts 10 minutes(?) and periodically emits a pulse which detects (reveals?) hidden and stealth units in the area.

I'm sorry if that's a bit vague; I'm at work and I'm goin' from memory, here. >8)

Sadly I just made one and summoned it, only to find out that it is indeed a one time use item. Also the detect stealth range is pretty small, less than the hunter's detect hidden. It is pretty cool looking though, minature version of the ones in Gnomeregan.

On the way back from an unsuccessful shanker run I decided to kill some gnomes and this schematic dropped. Now I need to skill up my engineering alt. Does it require engineering to use the bot?

I bought this schematic on my server on the AH for like a 3g buyout. I should have resold it instead of learning it I guess if you can get that much for it.

I was wondering whether opposing faction can kill these things like dragonlings, battlechicken etc. Or is it something like a non-combat pet which you can not attack? Cause if it can be killed it' ll last say 3 seconds in PvP,,

...WHY does it take such expensive mats? Fused wiring sells for 5g on my (Icecrown) server.

It's true, the mats are expesive. But with some robots in engineering, you can loot them after they're dead to get some of the stuff back. Another "robot" like this is the Target Dummy. Be quick to loot it after it's dead, or you'll loose this chance like all other corpses with loot on. If a robot has a cooldown, it wont have this "ability". I belive only the player who summoned it may loot it too. But there's no telling WHAT mats or how much you'll get back ...

It drops in Blackrock depths.

From a random gnome guard in the room whit all gnome and stonegaurds.

We got one yesterday 17/5.

It Summons an Alarm O Bot for 10 minutes that occasionally sends ot a pulse that detects nearby stealty and invisible enemies.

Requires: Thorium bar 4, Thorium widget 2
Rugged leather 4, Star ruby, Fused wiring.

Can this be used to find invisible enemies in PvE like in DM west? Or is it for invisibility pots/stealth/shadowmeld?

Yes, it's one time use. It had ~ 2k hp and regened fairly fast (had a rogue friend fire arrows at it to see if she could kill it then move in, she could not. Hunter, probably.)

Mats aren't that heinous imo - when you're farming for crystals, you'll get the 10 thorium easy, and as a mge I just yoink out a regular target dummy every time I log in and am summoning water for myself. No, don't get a fused wiring every time, but enough to make this feasible.

Will it survive in mass PvP? No. But it's one of those things that distracts stealthed people enough - and sometimes that's the edge one needs.
