I use an add-on that counts how many times you kill something (or open something, or use something). It took me ONE HUNDRED AND TWENTY SEVEN kills over a week.

Remember that drop rate defines A CHANCE. That means that if one guy is really unlucky, he can kill 500 of them and not get the item, while 10 others can get it from the first kill. So keep killin' till your luck improves :)

By the friendly dragon , with Questsgivers by its side , a bit from there to the east and south ,and in the area , there are iron dwarwes smiths - just go kill'em , i slaughtered 336 dwarwes , to get it.. but i also got 156 mageweavecloths and 3g and 7 green items + potions scrolls and 1 strong iron lockbox , vendor gold - for me 11g , repair 72s.. and quests done.... so if you want it dine , kill to you get it

end-all point is that if your lvl 46 or so (appropriate for this quest area) your here for xp, this is just one of those quests w/ low droprate that blizz puts in to force you to grind as a way of minimizing the number of quests they haf to create (if you spend an entire lvl grinding one quest then thats easier in blizzards book then making 10quests to get you that same lvl ) but the xp is decent, the killing is easy, and you can be knocking out like 5 other quests while in the same area, taskmasters, spiders, golems, ya de ya de

This is just stupid.

I've been killing these for a few hours and nothing. There are only 5 spawn points for them! I kill each in about 10 second but then I have to wait a few minutes for them to reset.

Booorrrring.

Contrary to what others say and what the map say, they are ONLY at 38,50 and 40,49. There is a set of 2 seamsmiths at each.

Took me 8 hours of killing these before it dropped.

im killing those for over an half hour... i feel like in kalonline (those who played it will understand what i mean)

I've discovered fun things to do while you wait for these guys to respawn. First is killing off the golems for the golem quest. Second is jumping on top of the elevator like a secret agent. =-D

This truly sucks! I have been farming them for over an hour and a half with a Orc Warrior to aid me, he marks one target and I mark the next, we have been here for too long now and no drop. btw I'm an NE Priest and if I could buff him I would...

at 39,50 there spawns 5 Dark Iron Steamsmith's rather fast.... i did 3 spawns and got it.

this is the worst quest, more than 1.5 hours killing with my level 47 warlock. all this does is make me hate the lucky ones to got it in one kill. same with the lookouts.

Did this quest at level 54 and got 3500 xp. Also, got the tuyere on the very first drop.

Just wanted to confirm from Classic WoW. These drops are SHARED for party members. If one drops from a mob, the entire party can loot it.

GROUP UP, DON'T FIGHT FOR SPAWNS WHEN YOU DON'T NEED TO!

Be careful if you have Questie addon, it will tell you that the Dark Iron Lookouts drop this, they do NOT. I spent 2 hours killing the wrong mobs. Got it on like my 15th kill at the steamsmiths.

There's three camps.
38,61 One on the left, a cluster of three white tents, with a fourth tent infront.
39,48 One in the center, where the anvil and forge are.
42,51 And a final spawn near the elevator that brings you into The Slag Pit.

The number of Steamsmith spawns will vary with Dark Iron Taskmasters and Dark Iron Slavers.
But generally two Steamsmiths per spawn location.
