The chance on hit for this axe IS affected by dmg/healing, in turn actually giving you a 200% bonus from it, as the dmg portion is directly affected as well as the heal.
(i.e. if you have 400dmg/heal this axe will proc for 448-454dmg, and heal you for that much as well.)

Other items which have a similar proc to them are also affected in this manner.

Our MT got 2 of these, heroism trinket, he farms with these weps and he puts Lifestealing on them aswel, he doesnt die and they die pretty fast aswel :-)

Hehe, I think it'd be interesting when in the Burning Crusade a shaman that could dual-wield these babies with dual Lifestealing enchants that has a ton of spell damage gear. Go go self healing through weapon procs!

This axe is rubbish for tanking. Broodlords is far superior for stats and speed. Assuming the lifedrain is affected by spell damage, it would be less that 20% or so, seeing as it's an instant attack. To amp it to 450 damage would require some 2,000 spell damage. At that point, you're WAY beyond ZG and BC.

Decent for fury warriors and shamans.

This is an ok axe, but I recommend waiting for another one-handed weapon in Molten Core or Blackwing Lair. Most warriors are tanks anyway, and there are better weapons for dps warriors as well.

Picked this up last Zul'Gurub run and I went to Swamp of Sorrows to whack some Green Dragon Elites in an attempt to test the procrate. I wouldnt count on it healing you, it does go off a few times per fight though, so a rough estimate would be somewhere within 5-20%. My dibs would be ~10%. I have so far not been able to see any factors for modifying the proc. It's a nice boost though :) And this weapons semi-low speed makes a perfect companion with Rockbiter 7 when soloing since a high stable DPS is easier to calculate further actions with than risking burst-damage and dying waiting for a WF proc. The WF proc isnt that great on this weapon either considering its relatively low damage per strike.

All in all a nice soloing weapon =).

I'm a shaman and I got this on our first downing of Hakkar and since there seems to be a lot of discussion about the proc, I thought I'd add my observations to this.

I haven't run this with a parser or anything, but while fighting scarlets in EPL I generally get 3-8 procs/fight, which would be around 5% procrate.

It can proc multiple times in a windfury proc.

The proc is affected by +spell damage equipment, which in my case (with melee gear) makes it damage+heal for 82-88.

In a lucky fight I can get up to 10 procs.

The proc can crit.

Some other nice things to note is that the high speed gives many small windfury procs, meaning more reliable steady damage (it's basically dagger speed). With a shield + this I do around 200 pure melee DPS, which is nice for a mostly resto shaman without much melee gear. I put a crusader enchant on it, which further increases the healing and damage done.

So, I'd say this is in many ways better in the hands of a shaman than other classes, for the simple fact that it will proc more with flurry and windfury and a shaman will generally have some +spell damage gear which makes the proc bigger. The relatively high damage makes it a good weapon for anyone who needs a decent 1h weapon though :)

I picked up this axe for free on a non-DKP guild run of ZG. I have +120 spell power and +274 healing with my current gear (I'm a Paladin). With a quick glance at my combat log, I saw:

Your Drain Life heals you for 168.

Considering this is an instant attack and assuming the lowest stated value on the axe:

48 + (.43 * 274) = 165.82

So it appears that 43% of your +healing is added to this when it procs.

I'm a 60 pally on Silvermoon. I use this weapon with a lifesteal enchant in conjunction with The Immovable object and the warlords deck.
No, I don't really tank much, but for those occasions that you do, you're Godlike with it. Seal of Light + Judgement of Light + Manslayer + Lifesteal + Warlords = self-healing pally tank.

cool and its not unique so u could get 2 stick 2x lifesteal on and get yourself a heroism card and ud be a self healing monster! :P

considering the proc rate for each of the 5 things is about 10% thats almost every hit (using 2 weapons) ud be healing yourself from between 60-120 depending which proc'd. i can also see all 3 procing at times (the weapon the lifesteal enc and the card healing u for 300+).

alsome duel wield weapon for fury warriors.

I have got one and it is still without enchant, I have polearm from mandokir and maybe I will try fury if I will get second. I am really tired from Destroyer of Worlds, cause I am farming ZG for 3 months and it never dropped :/

Verry nice DPS fast and life stealing well a bit any way. it does not matter who uses it but works for tanks but I rather have + agil/stamina or defence on my weapon think its best for a fury warior they nead all the life they can get.. that and agil for the crits .
Hunters should flog IT and get a arcanite reaper
so you get a +65 power on there range atack (shooting !) Yes it works ... and if you get in to
hand to hand you can do damage or fake your death :P

and use jumper cables to res the rest of the party

It does scale with +dmg gear, not too sure how much +heal affects it. And it seems to gain the full ammount from every item. As a shammy with all my +dmg gear on, I get 270 odd health (and 270 shadow dmg) every proc.

With Zandalarian Hero Charm, the first drain gives me 470 health.

I think I remember the proc being something like 2-3%, but given that it scales with +dmg gear AND given the fact that it's not unique I say get 2, slap a couple of lifesteal enchants on them and go mad

Ace for DW shamans for whom +dmg gear would be beneficial anyway since they shock away as well as meleeing

hey nub orcsez is right. a hunter should not use this weapon unless they win on greed roll and are having some fun. they shouldnt take it from someone else with a need roll since thats bad for the both of them. orcsez is right. if ur a hunter doing melee dmg roll a war. we dont need the best melee weapons, just ones with the best stats! (Agi, crit %, stam, int) A hunter getting a weapon with a melee proc is a sad day for all melee classes. A hunter with this probably will never see the Life Steal proc! Get something with 25 agi base, such as a Massacare sword of agi, then get 15agi chant.

I'v got this a week ago and make a bit testing.
1st, the proc is 3-4%, sometimes to 5%. The proc can crit also.
2nd, and the most important, the proc is modified by +spell damage effects. I have not really good stuff for +spell_dmg, but with my blue gear (like Blood Guard Gauntlets/Boots etc) it procs up to 230 hp.

I almost sure that Lifestealing is modified by this also (crusader is modified by +heal).

So it's definitely HUNTER WEAPON! Oops, sorry. I mean shammy. I niipet!

Killed Hakkar recently with a guild group (half of the people used to be in my guild so it was like a reunion ZG run) and he dropped heart, Hakkari Manslayer and Zin'rokh. No one wanted the Manslayer so i took it (25/26/0 pally), no one wanted Zin'rokh so it went to the other pally in the raid and a Mage won the heart. I have been doing ZG once or twice a week for around 3 months and it was the first Zin'rokh we had seen and only the second Manslayer.

I am still debating whether to put lifesteal enchant on it or +30 spell damage (since it would be my DPS 1 hander, i don't go without a shield). I love how quick this axe is and the graphic for it is just awesome! Very nice weapon for any melee class.

I just got it for my prot warrior to replace a really old weapon. The proc rate is fairly disappointing, at around 2%, if even that.

Shamans - Do you know if this works with windfury/rockbiter? The axe from BRD has the same proc and it dosen't, so I'm wondering if blizzard didn't screw this up too.

I'm a shaman - nobody really "wanted" it when it dropped (we make endgame gear list and we get priority in a voting system for loot - it works quite well) so I won it on a /roll - I must say I'm quite happy with it

So far it seems to proc about 4% of the time but I've only had it 1 day

It doesn't seem to proc off windfury (well it does but it's NEVER procced twice in a row I mean, if it's a "chance on hit" you'd think that it could *possibly* proc off the 2 windfury hits, thus healing you 2 or 3 times in 1 swing)

It does also seem to be affected by +spelldamage gear - I have +96 and it usually heals me for about 145-150

I'm going to get the lifesteal enchant put on it as soon as I can and see the numbers fly

this also is NOT a hunter weapon. What is with you nooby hunters and wanting items that dont even have stats. Thats the whole purpose of having a melee weapon for a hunter... STATS! same as rogues with bows. We never use them for any sort of DPS only for the stats. This thing has no stats at all, it is definately a fury warrior weapon however with those stats and that DPS it rivals eskhanders

The life steal does shadow damage and seems to scale with +damage/heal items. It procs "decently" often.

Got this last week and I've tested it and found that "spell damage" gears increase its proc "shadow damage" to target (= amount healed on wearer), which means instead of normally around 50 damage + 50 healed, potentially it can get over 200 shadow damage to target and 200 healed! (with half rare half epic gears I got over 180)

However, windfury doesn't seem to affect the proc rate much (ie. I've never seen it proc twice in a roll with windfury) but if I see it in the future I'll post agagin.

I have crusader enchanted and both crusader and the axe proc like crazy when I farm in Silithus... I don't really have to heal myself with all the healing i get from this baby! :D

This seems fine for any class that can wield axes, because everyone needs life...no one should not be allowed to roll in my opinion.
Also, that's ALOT of DPS for a 1h!

It depends on your playstyle. Also remember, we do have an ammo supply that can run out. Personally, I'd pick this up if I didn;t have someting better.
