These are a great pre-MC tanking item. They a quest reward from "The Calling". The quest is in Silithus and requires a raid group to complete but the rewards are great.

You also get some great tanking legplates as a reward as well.

Highly recommended for all tanks to complete this quest.

The quest series starts from some Commander guy with a crazy polearm... quest name is "dearest natalia". Starts at cenarion hold, the building next to the moonwell. It has you talk to two dwarves at Bronzebeard encampment, which is east of the Ahn'quiraj gate.
After talking to them both, and perhaps finishing that quest from the commander (not sure exactly what triggers it) you get two quests:
Glyph Chasing
Cracking the code (i think).

These have you go to each of the three hives in silithus. Glyph chasing has you find a crystal in the hives, and "use" it, cracking the code has you farm the silithid in each hive to get a "brain" quest item.

You might also have to do the quest "into the maw of darkness" (i think it's darkness), which has you go to Hive'Regal (the biggest) and kill a 62 elite NE. She's right next to the crystal, but is pretty easy except for MC/fearing.

After turning in the quest at the dwarves, you get sent back to cenarion hold to talk to the "geologist" dwarf that is there. She gives you a rune, which is used to "call" some mobs (Quest is named the calling) at the Bones of something... south of cenarion hold. looks like huge dragon bones .

Doing this will spawn 3 HUGE silithid mobs. However, it doesn't seem nescessary to kill them, since it seems the Emmisary mob (looks like an anubis statue) from who you need the item for the quest spawns without those dying.

The emmisary hits pretty hard, 700-1000 damage on normal hits. Later on in the fight, after 50% i think, he does an AOE which hits for 400 to 900 nature damage... and drains mana. You also can't get out of range of this aoe, so you can't bandage.

Killing him and turning in the item makes the dwarf yak and yak and yak (that info about Staghelm that was posted.. that's what she says). When all that is done, talk to her to get TWO blue item rewards, based on your class.

This is one of the two you get, the other are cenarion legplates, more defense ear.

That makes things clear but from what i heard it seems You need a raid at least for emissary. And how many people will suffice? 10? 15? 20? 40?

raid needed. minimum I've seen drop him is 20.

got them tonight, our raid took 3 tries to get him down, had a bit of help from some horde ready to go at him as well.

ugly boots, look like moldy green marble. great stats though.

I'm wearing "green" boots that have +13 defense and I have an enchant for +7 stamina. I'm not at all impressed with these i lose a lot of defense. I'm at 371 defense total which is an ok target for a new to 60 warrior. And with all the stamina I carry in from my other armor and buffs I just dont see that these with only +5 defense are worth all the trouble. -Dracuss 60 tank silvermoon

Are Horde players able to do a quest similar to the alliance one with the same rewards? cuz i've heard so far in these comments are ally based. If someone could help me out thatd be great :).

We downed him and his spawns with 12 people the other night.
All thats really needed is 3 warriors to tank the 3 spawns at first. Simple tanking is used, they dont hurt that bad.

When the boss spawns, if you arent close to him he wont aggro, so this allows the healers to regain mana, as he does not despawn as long as you dont walk away.

This boss is simple, the tank just keeps aggro while all melee stays BEHIND him and and as close to him as possible, for this makes it so that his little AOE does NO damage at all to them, when we did it only the tank took damage while some casters had some mana leached.
He was really easy :)

Can somebody please accurately list where the chain to get these starts, what you need to do, and how you do it? i'm intent on getting these boots

we tok him down with 23 (horde) we are a guild which hasnt begin with MC yet :p

We got a big help from 2 players from Hi Goat which does Naxx almost all the time..

second time they arrived we killed him..

Many happy people with new NR legs :)

we finished The Calling with 15 alliance, well-geared.

the NR pants are well worth it for any class.

Scholomance set boots now have 10Def, 9 sta and 6mana/5s, all great for a warrior.... except the last part :P

It was a glaring omission on blizzards part not having any non epic boots with some +def that could be gotten with going to an endgame instance
