This weapon is now equally as worthwile as the others you can get from Armaments, since patch 2.0.1 that is.
The reason it used to be a bad weapon is that it gets very hard to weave in aimed shot in your rotation with it. Since aimed shot now resets your shot timer such woes are gone, aimed shot will not be used in raiding anymore at all for that matter.
I would rate this gun equal to Toxin injector and Huhuran's stinger.

This is a great gun for hunters, especially dwarves. Although, most hunters seem to roll bows in endgame PVE.

This reqires 3 elementium and some quest stuff you get from the first bosses of the 40 part AQ instance.

THough i do belive that the imbaxbow from BWL is better. But what do i know? All i know is that Zille will never get this item!

Slower ranged weapons are better on aimed shots because you get your weapon's damage + your attack power bonus DPS bonus (1 DPS for every 14 AP) multiplied by your weapon speed. So... Weapon Damage + (DPS bonus x weapon speed)

This gives slower weapons a huge DPS boost on aimed shot, and multishot to a lesser extent. I'm not as sure on how the attack power applies to multishot.

So on an aimed shot, with 1400 Ranged AP, you'd get an extra 340 damage on a 3.4 speed weapon. While on a 2.6 speed weapon you'd only get an extra 260. 80 damage is a lot for 1 shot, and crits make the extra DPS enormous.

This is why slower ranged weapons are better. Both in PvE and PvP. You get much more DPS as long as you are using multi and aimed shot. Not to mention more burst DPS.

It makes the max damage more important, not the dps. Slow weapons are still better than fast weapons by a large margin. It just so happens that weapons with higher DPS are more likely to have more max damage.

+5 racial owns, Im a troll hunter and i would love to get stinger instead of my xbow from bwl.
Why is that, cuz now i have to use +hit gear like wristguard of trueflight instead of ds bracers so i dont miss so often. If i get +5 racial i can change some of my good gear with a +hit and get better gear without +hit
You are maby a mc hunter with gs gear thats why u can say something like that. For end game hunters the +hit is great!

i got this instead of huhu's stinger cuz i already had ashjre'thul,and dint want to take it from another hunter that needed it,but i wanted a faster weapon and the armorments drop alot for us.i use this now instead of ash except for tranqshot fights(i have biznicks scope on it),dps is slightly higher in the tool tip and damage done is almost identical,if not better.fast weapons work very nicely with a high attack power/high crit build for raiding,i have 1534 rap with hawk and over 1700 fully raid buffed with around 30% crit, and around 2000rap when i pop earthstrike.faster shots means more crits and makes up for the smaller damage range imo.

This gun is junk in my opinion... id rather stick with my Ashjre'thul, Crossbow of Smiting. This gun give 1.7 dps more but it has 5 less attack power and a much lower damage range due to its faster speed :/

I havent done the maths so maybe its a fraction better than my xbow but I wouldnt waste a load of dkp on this especially when warriors can get such a nice shield and hunters and melee dps classes can also use the axe or dagger from the same item :/

But for my money, I'll take the Toxin Injector 2.0 speed, less aggro for leveling.

BM spec, watch pettie grab aggro and stand back and shoot, no need to get fancy now, drink beer and grab a smoke. Aimed is bye bye and not on the tool bar. Bad guy grabs ur aggro and FD, pettie goes back on the hunt, game over bad guy dead.

Quick Shot procs all the time, so start off with rapid fire and sit back and don't draw aggro.

Today for a test I was getting 61 elites to stay on my pet till they were half life with a calibrated boomstick and hurricane. Both almost continually proc Quick Shots, Boom .69 speed, Hurr .72 speed. Mix it up, FD and start the machine gun over or wing clip and raptor strike, kite a few shots ! Game is fun again.

The power of our pets now is amazing, 4400 life, 6700 armor and 107 DPS...drink a beer and level

This gun has the highest dps in the game! if u want something slower, then take the time to get it. Otherwise take the half-second net difference in speed and say that u have the highest dps weapon in the game.

this gun is the best, idc if u say that cross bow is good but, this has a higher DPS so ill stick with this once i hget it, never touched a crossbow/bow (in fact i dont even have the bow skill), but my gun is god..... i like the thing of *click* *enimy craps himself* *boom* hahaha

why does blizzard have to give this basically the same damage range as teh dragonbreath handcannon, worse mods (IMO), and potentially worse art than a freaking dragon for a gun....
gun lovers revolt....blizzard gipped us on this dungeon.
net difference between this and DHBC...0.2 seconds of fire time...weak

Hunters want 2.8-3.6 weapon speed range weapons you jerks. Either give us slower attack speeds, or normalize the damn attack power multiplier on range attacks, similar to what you did for melee.

i'll skip this and keep huhu's stinger until naxx provides that godly xbow

(slaps forehead) guys. Ever since weapon normalization came out, top damage on a weapon doesn't matter any more. Okay, so it has 6 less top damage than Rhok. Notice that it DOES have 14 more ranged attack power than rhok. That compensates for the measly 6 top damage, if you're gonna be stubborn. Second, notice that Rhok has an attack speed of 2.9, and this has an attack speed of 2.6. Means that it fires more often, thus compensating for that small amount of top damage. Also take into effect that come burning crusade, aimed shot is gonna reset all shot timers, even auto-shot, thus it's not gonna be part of the shot rotation any more. We're gonna have steady shot for that as well. And the fact that agi is getting a ranged attack power nerf, having a ranged attack power stat like this is amazing. Stop thinking about your instant damage and think about your damage over time, since not everyone wears cloth and can be one shotted.

1.10 supposedly will normalize the atk multiplier, thus making this the best ranged weapon. Multi and aimed will be calculated at 2.8 speed for all weapons.

Really it is just a heavy nerf to the crossbow off of chrommag.

This is trash. If a hunter is actually going for the Armaments, s/he should get Pugio or even that random axe with int. This has a lower top damage than Epic quest bow, and worse stats. This is crap. Asjrslhh'thi Crossbow of Smiting ftw.
