For what sounds like such a difficult quest, this thing should do something good... Anyone seen one?

This quest is available only during the Lunar New Year period.

You do not need to kill Omen, you just need to recieve the blessing to complete the quest. This means that you can join in a fight, and step into the corpse of Omen after he's dead, and still complete the quest.

killed omen ..... got lantern .... used lantern.... still nothing of use no buff nothing
anybody know what it might be used for ?

So the lantern creates moonlight so using the invite and the lantern you can transport yourself to Moonglade...thats the only use?

Maybe casting the light on an elder turns his lesser moon light into greater?

the "light" u are talking about is only for looks, it doesn't actually do anything special. hey. make one in IF and stand in it and go AFK. fun fun

Please, people, relax and remember, it's a holiday event. The whole background story is about not forgetting the deeds of your ancestors. Omen is no threat at all since millenia ago. You can relive some of the ancient fight, but Omen is really just a shade of its former self.
Do you really expect to gain epic loot from an event like this?
Work for your epics in MC/BWL/AQ. But then spend your holiday/free time joining the festivities in Moonglade. And maybe you happen to join in The Omen Memorial Bashing. :)
Using the special moon light is something to stand out before others, just for being able to do something no one else can do (who didn't participate himself of course). I personally think Blizzard found a nice way to let players distinguish themselves without further changing the equilibrium of power.

In my opinion, the lesser moonlight allows you to mark yourself as an elder by standing in your own little spotlight.

Do you get Reputation with Cenarion Circle for killing Omen? And if so, how much do you get? Do you get reputation for turning in any of the coins of ancestry?

The stones are a handy tool for organising raids. The raid leader simply casts light beams on spots he wants folks to gather on, etc.

Man, I think this lantern was just created to put fairy circles of light of the ground because it was a seasonal item created to commemorate the Chinese New Year. I could be wrong, but ok ...

it is just for fun, as is savory deviate delight fishes. the stones dont have any significance in this game other than to shine a beam of light. its fun to dance in them though = )

I summoned omen to see what level he was, he whomped on me twice and I died. I came back with a group, and the alliance was already killing him. We helped finish him off since it said here that you can get the blessing of Elune from anyone killing him. That is true, you can get the blessing just from standing on his dead body, but it does not complete the quest. It didn't say complete in my quest page, and the guy wouldn't accept it.

Our guild master uses the stones as a marker when he is going over new fights or when there are a lot of new people, such as the 'bomb dump' on Vael or Baron Geddon. This is very helpful to eliminate any confusion when it is imperative people know where they need to be, like when they can explode and wipe your raid.

The Elune Stones these create are 1 use items. The lantern has a 24 hour cooldown. The stones stack. When used, they create a column of light that lasts for 3 minutes.

This is useful when you are trying to organize a group of people, like for a boss battle. Cast a column of light to show them where to stand. Other then that it makes a nice 'disco light' to highlight a dancer!

You cannot teleport to moonglade with the Festival Invitation using this.

During the event the moonstones would give a +250HP buff when you stood in the light, but apparently that effect did not carry over after-event. Soooo.... it's pretty much useless now. Yay.
