This is a random world drop and can drop off of any mob with a loot table in a set level range.

Ok, I think I have the best when it comes to the worst stories involving an epic drop.

To most people, it's an unbelievably lucky thing to happen outside of a high level instance.. but for me, this was unfortunately one of the worst moments i've experienced in this game.

To explain:

I had a lvl 50 rogue on Arthas and was looking to upgrade my weapons. I spotted a Shadowblade on the AH for 115g and I had a little over 100g. The person selling it happened to be in IronForge at the time and I messaged him and negotiated it down to 105g. I was so happy to finally have this dagger :)

Now, for the sad part. A couple weeks later, when I was about lvl 55, I was grinding in the Blasted Lands for Runecloth when a mob dropped the Shadowblade. I was solo and was in shock at my good fortune.. but.. as I went to pick it up, I got an error saying I couldn't carry any more of those.

My heart sank when I realized the weapon was a unique and, since I already had previously purchased one a few weeks ago, I couldn't loot this Shadowblade. I tried to send a ticket (although I knew it would do no good).. I tried to invite nearby friends into my group to see if they could loot it.. but nothing worked.

I had to watch in complete dismay as the corpse containing an epic dagger decayed right in front of me :/

It still bums me out to think about it.. even after several months of it happening :'(

I'm a lvl 56 rogue and I use a Krol blade MH and a shadow Blade OF ( both have +15 Agi ) and I just rip lvl 58-59 apart with that combo. I found my Shadow Blade for 60g on AH at lvl 28... I waited a long time for it :). but if I was to recomend a weapon combo I would have to say that this is 1 of the best for lvl 48-59 easy. after that I would look at the Warblades of Hakkar;)... but if you ever needed a good dagger Shadow blade is the way to go.

P.S. if your like me and look up things before I do them i hope this helped you out ;)

I just got this blade in shadowhold in felwood. Was doing the escort quest down there, when I was at the last mob(elite) a horde came and ganked me and the quest failed. Had to do it all over again.

When I was doing it the second time this blade dropped. Guess its karma=)

I need to do more testing, but the last time I bothered to check, out of something like 245 hits, shadowblade only proc'd once.

Maybe it was just a bad run, but I'm not seeing the usefulness of the chance on hit affect here.

Probably will never see it now that I switched shadowblade to my offhand and set up glacial blade on my main.

Definitely not worth the 200-400g people charge when you can just grind Frostwolf rep and get a glacial for like 25g and some of the other nicer daggers available now.

Even tough it has been said before I 'll summarize it (again): ATTACK SPEED DOES NOT MATTER FOR AMBUSH, BACKSTAB OR SINISTER STRIKE. So please read Enduli's post or Blizzard's previous patch notes before posting another comment about this dagger's attack speed. Have a nice day,,

The dagger is rare...seen only 10 maybe in the last year come thru the AH. Always selling for 175+ gold.

My 55 rogue has this in main hand, and a Julie's Dagger in offhand. It increased the DPS by 20-30 points over my old green/green combo -- went from averaging around 110-120 up to 130-150 or so, and I went over 200 dps with some well placed criticals.

And like most have said, the proc from this dagger is either rare or non-existant, I've never had more than one proc during a fight, and usually go through a long dry spell with no proc's.

I haven't enchanted it yet, so that may help the DPS even more, but I try to religiously keep Instant Poison apply, which is ALWAYS used up before the 30 minute timer, burning through the charges at 3-5 per fight!

Fantastic DPS; I'll be using this until 60.

I got this yesterday off a raptor in Un'Goro (was farming Devilsaurs with my Hunter BF and it dropped off a link haha). I'm combat spec atm with sword spec, but have been considering changing to Assassination for some fun. My plan was to MH Heartseeker / OH Shadowblade. I think this is an AWESOME off hander, as it's only 1.40 delay, and great DPS and proc. I haven't seen anything better. Was just wondering if that's a good idea? (BTW before you say Barmans MH, I hate Barmans, won't use it so =P )

I got this off a plaguebat just off the road into EPL. I'm a 52 rogue and I'd like to equip it but the proc rate is very low, per other sites. I have Wirt's Third Leg in my main hand and Black Menace in off-hand, and the fiery on Wirt's goes off up to 4 times per fight with a mob a level or two above me. Black Menace proc goes off at least once a fight, too.

I suppose getting fiery on Shadowblade would make it sweeter, since it is so fast the enchant would proc a bit more than with other daggers. It was a nice surprise but I think I'll sell it rather than equip it.

Got one off a 53 Legashi Hellcaller in Azshara just a minute ago. Bad thing the WR seems not to work so I can't submit it. would be the 3rd drop off them.

But I farmed them for month and month for runecloth & felcoth (made exhalted with darnassus half by cloth)

got one form a bloodelf in aszhara a few days ago, was on my way to farm legashi satyrs, and decided to kill just the two elves directly in the way... was quite stunned when i saw purple ;)

anyway, sold it for just 115G on the AH.. i have seen a few on the ah for ~150 start price, ~200 buyout, but as far as i can tell, nobody wanted to spend so much money.
i tried with 110 start, 160 buyout so obviously only 2 or 3 people bid on it.

economy is VERY strange on german "Zirkel des Cenarius" Server...

I bought this as a level 49 rogue with some other very nice EQ.
Was very helpful in getting my rank/honor up in WSG.
Phenomenal dagger bought it for 70g.
Probably one of the best purchases I've gotten.

Just got this in sunken temple from Shade of Eranikus.

was there to help guildmates quest and to try for the a Dire Nail, the blue dagger he drops but instead this dropped and being guildmates they all passed to let me have it without a word.

I sold this for 420g on the Zul'jin server! I wasn't expecting to sell it for this much but I decided to make the first auction very high and if it didn't sell I'd drop it 100g. But I'll certainly take the 420. Only 20g until epic mount.

When people see and buy these things, it works on the same principle as enchantments. It's all for the colour. I'd just forget about it unless you honestly can't find a better dagger. You're not going to have 250G at level 48, and by the time you do you should have spent some time in Blackrock Depths to get the for less.
