The Scarab Coffer Keys are for opening the Scarab Coffers in AQ20. They seem to drop off most mobs, but the highest chance comes from the yellow (The ones that won't attack you) bugs in AQ20. The Coffers have Scarab bags full of ... you guessed it ... scarabs! :) As well as an Idol which is needed to get your AQ20 CC rep armor sets.

These things seem to dissappear from your inventory after a while. I logged off after AQ20 with a couple left over and they were gone a few hours later when I returned.

I was told that they can drop off the vile scarabs is this true?

These are used to open Scarab Coffers, which contain scarb coins :)

These Scarab coffer keys are bound onto the instance, so if you leave the instance for some reason, even for a little while, they are lost. If you find some of these keys, make sure you stay within the instance until you find enough Scarab Coffers to open, don't leave the instance for any reason.
The coffers can't be lockpicked, either so losing the keys means losing a lot of those quest items.

these keys are not bound. i've had one in my bank for about a week now. long enough for the instance to reset even and it is still there. just opened a box with it tonight also so..
