It appears that this remained in my inventory even after turning in the quest it was provided for. I didn't see any further use for it so I destroyed it.

You get it when you do the Keeping Pace/Rizzle's Schematics pair of quests. You pick it up when you start the second quest, and deliver it to Pozzik, but the ore doesn't disappear from your inventory...

Okay people, LOOK CLOSER AT YOUR ITEM NAMES. Damn.

There are two things

SAMPLE OF INDURIUM ORE

-AND- just plain

INDURIUM ORE

One you get FROM the quest in the Shimmering Flats where you steal the plans from the gnomish guy AFTER YOU DO THE 10 INDURIUM FLAKES quest. You get the flakes and the guy says "They'll probably want you to go get Indurium ore!" but then you go back and the guy is like "Oh yeah this stuff is awesome, we'll need some!" And then doesn't give you a quest for it... so you go over to the Goblin side and THEY give you a quest to go STEAL the plans for using Indurium... then THEY need a supplier. So a repeatable quest for FOUR INDURIUM ORES at a time (which is exactly how many you get from mining the INDURIUM ORE in Uldaman) opens up.

So again, different items.

And I have no idea what the SAMPLE of Indurium Ore is for... I'm gonna trash it.

It's a role-Play thing, like the Gurabashi book or most of the other books you can read. If someone tells you about some new kind of ore, they need to show you a sample of it so you will be able to 'recognize' it. In game that is meaningless because we just mouse over something and we know what it is, but on an RP server it would make sense.

I also found this item eating up my inventory space and did some research. I found a description of Rizzik's Schematic that reads thusly:

Used as a paperweight for the plans is a hunk of what appears to be unrefined indurium ore.

I'd guess that Pozzik is supposed to take the sample from your inventory when he takes the schematic. The quest is just minorly broken to the extent that you keep the sample.

No quests involving this item that I could find. You could save it in case a badlands quest could use it but I'm just going to destroy mine.

After you complete the quest Rizzle's Schematics this item will remain in your bags. It's useless after the quest is done. Delete it.
