i did attack some "Fire Roc" (maybe 5-6 of them) and i did get zero of those and then i did get my 3 after i killed 3 ordinarry "Roc"

I got the 3 from killing around 8-10 fire rocs in the Abyssal Sands (43, 41). They drop Large eggs too, needed for the Artisan Cooking quest. If you are not into cooking, they fetch a decent price on AH.

It's possible to get them. I got them in about 8 kills.The drop rate is like any Classic quest, the only annoying thing is that the birds are seperated from each other and you got to walk really far to find another one.

My dwarf hunter got all 3 gizzards from 3 kills, my night elf druid on the other hand i had to grind for 30 mins before i got all 3. Some charas get lucky others dont i suppose.

The birds share a respawn with the hyena's. When I was looking for mobs, there were HEAPS of hyena's around the large dragon bones that litter the zone. I had to clear one lot of bones out then come back in a few minutes to get a decent amount of birds to kill. The Hyena's put an annoying disease on you and I'm not sure if you need to kill them for any quests, which explains why there are next to no birds in the zone and truck loads of the Hyena's.
