I have 5 of these in my inventory and don't even knw what I'm supposed to do with them - see no mention in quest log either. Any ideas?

It has 5 charges, allowing you to mess up 4 times.

i trew the phial to the garbage by mistake .. what can i do now?

if you lost it just find one nector, one mana portion and one coal and give it to a guy at on the right of Hall Explorer in IF, you will get it again.

Though like others, I still don't know what to do with it.

Once you've finished this quest you can throw away the Phial of Scrying. You won't need it again.

You don't even need them i just clicked on someone else's bowl they had created :) Well obviously atleast one person needs thaem, but you get my point.

If u abandoned the quest like i did, u can just waste all the charges before you throw away the phial... it's sorta fun. i made one in IF and ppl were like "oo shiny mysterious bown O.o" lol.

I three bowls. Used them and was not able to communicate with whats his face. I had to do quest to replace bowl of Scarying. Now it wont let me make another bowl says duplicate item, item that didn't work. Made the bowl and nothing happen. No communication with the dude.

I think it's used twice, it is part of a chain quest from uldaman The Shattered Necklace The phial is used for 2 parts Find the Gems and Restoring the Necklace finish these quests and use the phial to complete them.

When you have the 3 gems for the quest "Find the Gems" in Uldaman, you need the create the bowl with this tool to complete the quest ;)

You can get a replacement vial if you throw yours away. You can get it from Talvash himself at the mystic ward in ironforge. Coordinates are 36, 3.
