Nice low-level tanking sword, but the rare spawn seems to be dominated by farmers. If you can find it for cheap, then go for it, otherwise don't waste the gold on something that will be replaced in a few levels by either of the two quest reward swords from SM or RFD, or both.

Indeed this is a very nice tanking sword for its level range, in addition, if you're lucky enough to run into Ironeye the Invincible out in the flats, you can turn this thing into a good bit of money on the auction house toward your first mount.

Very useful when tanking any instances from 30-40 such as SM or even Uldaman. It procs alot and the proc (+33 Defense) is VERY VERY useful. Nice weapon. But hard to get because it is a drop from a rare spawn.

Procs every 5-10 hit, a little low imo since the duration is only 5sec. Other then that 50def is allways nice, and the pure tanking feel of it makes it unique pre 60.

I'm in a bit of a corner here.

I found this earlier on my level 36 Paladin. I'm Protection spec, and i enjoy doing AoE leveling (grouping up 4-5 mobs my level and killing them all in one go). I use Sword of Omen currently, and Vile Protector (upgrading to Aegis of the Scarlet Commander+shield spike at lvl39).

This swords +50def rating will proc quite a lot in these AoE situations, and mitigate a bit of damage. I'm wondering whether or not to sell this thing, if the mitigation is not noticable? The DPS of the weapon isn't much concern.

I think the most important things have been posted here. To sum up:

1. he's elite and rare. a set respawn timer seems to be 2 days. (he does exist, stay strong :))

2. He has alot of armor making him hard for hand-to-hand classes. Bring a spellcaster along if possible.

3. Lots of people pass through each day, so the chances of getting the kill on this guy is hard, obviously. Second, the sword is not bind on pickup, so many might farm it with a high level character.

4. The basilisk wanders north-south east of the track and looks like a regular basilisk, though slightly darker. (and has the elite dragon around it's picture)

i saw this mob wandering around in the far east of 1000 needles. his path takes him right next to the eastern wall.

i killed him solo at lvl 38, as noone wanted to join me. definatly made my day. very very hard. took me 3 tries, and several potions. he has a lot of armor, and i was lucky enough to land several gouge, backstab, KS combos.

the sword is nice, but not great. the proc is very bad. slight increase in defense, but i find that it only procs onces every few fights, and it only lasts a few seonds

As many other said before, this rare spawn seems to take about 2 day to get back. I found it 'round 4pm on my server, and it was the second time I passed by that place. Pretty hard for hand to hand players is really the term. I'm a 33 rogue well geared with 22.1dps weapon in each hand, plus had a 51 war help me out, and he was low on health at the end of combat. If anyone need the sword on Smolderthorn, AC side, just msg me (Vycky) as it's for sale at the moment :P

About six months ago I set out to find this guy for his sword drop; on my first try I found him and killed him with my 55 Shaman, got the sword and sent it to my Rogue alt.

About thirty minutes ago I picked this up again, solo'd him on my 40 Hunter, pet died though. BUT I did manage to get him down within 200hp before he reached me, then with a simple swipe he fell. No pots, no bandages. He is tough though, so watch out if you insist on killing him below 40, if so bring a buddy. And don't forget about the one or two other basilisks in his area.

I found the basalisk just by luck with my lvl 36 priest. I asked for help but no-one gave it too me so i tried to kill him on my own. Honestly it wasnt very hard. I dont know what the big fuss is about. Sure i had low life at the end of it but he really isnt supremely difficult. Nice looking sword though. Shame i cant use it

i found this guy today after i cashed in a zf quest at the shimmering flats. I was with my friend who said he has seen him before and he took me to where he saw this guy and there he was. Only problem was that he didnt drop that awesome sword he dropped a green cloth item :( Hes a black basilik just to let u guys know.

I don't see anyone else saying this, but... between the excellent 25.0 DPS (higher than the higher-level Reforged Blade of Heroes!) on this, the fairly quick but not too fast attack speed, and the defense proc, this is a sword built for warrior tanking. Taking one of these and a good shield into SM grave/lib is a great way to keep your party alive, at least until you can earn your Sword of Omen. Even if the defense proc is rare, it does happen (and often at very useful times), and the quick speed allows you to build aggro faster. I put a simple +3 damage enchant on this (not a rich twink or I'd have considered lifestealing) to up the DPS for even more aggro, and it didn't fail me.

this sword really ant that good compared to some ones u can just go out and get doing quests. 24hour respawn and he is pretty hard to find w/o beast tracking. killed him with my levle 40 hunter last night ran all the way from stv lol
ant worth it just get the vanquishers sword or the scarlet monistary quest sword, i dual weild them both and it works wonders. good luck though its liek 1/3 chance got a green breastplate when i killed him which had a 1.33 chance lol

My friend and I (33lock and 33priest) were doing some quests and next thing ya know this guy is on us! Killed him, got the sword.. that's just blind luck! :-)

He's not listed as a "Rare" mob, so does that mean he spawns quite frequently? If so, that 46% drop rate calls for a farm. Plus my 31 Rogue could use it...

I managed to bring him down with some buddies, got the sword, and used it for novelty value until I scored the Sword of Omen. It does proc fairly frequently (maybe once every other battle) and the +50 defense almost guarantees a miss, but the 5 seconds pretty much only means you're going to dodge the next hit. The proc just doesn't happen enough to make it worth the mediocre dps.

Appearances to the contrary, this is pretty much useless for a warrior. Why force a miss when you can block, dodge, or parry to get rage?

Got this with my 60 mage without even trying to get it. Was leveling my skinning in the area when i saw him and just killed him for fun. Lol easy cash. You nooblets have fun now, k?

34 Hunter and I (34 Warrior) just found this guy a few hours ago, was a semi-tough fight as my 1h sword/shield SUCK, then this thing dropped. As much as I wanted to use it, we decided to sell it-- 50g!

Finding ironeye is probrably a huge problem. With a rare spawning, you'll have problems fighting others to the spawn if your crowded. I had to fend off a couple of alliance AND horde to get him. And when he finally did, he's not easy if your an even level. Pack health potions if you can't heal yourself, mana potions too. I may be a bit overreactive, but if your 2 levels below, these items may make the diffrence.

There are a few people saying that there are far better one handed weapons available, but I haven't been able to find any of this level that are noticeably better.

Just got it and it's going to be a big improvement for my level 34 warrior :)

I've got this 4 times in the past ~8 days. 2 day respawn timer seems accurate. He's only dropped the sword, I have yet to see a random green.

Very nice sword. seems like the effect happens at least once every battle. Got it off Ironeye and immediately gave to my static Hunter. He is using it still at level 42

A dual wield warrior friend got this 1 hour ago and we tested it - procs 3-5 times a fight and its very good for tanking because it has fast attack speed. To all those who say there are better weapons - yes there are, but none benefits a tank that much as this one. Warrior's job is to stay alive and take as low dmg as possible not to do large DPS, thus the weapon's dmg isnt that important.

As far as im aware it procs from MELEE ATTACKS which means it can proc from hamstring, sunder armor, Revenge, etc. More proof its great for tanks.

I can't even believe it. I've killed this dude 3 times in the past 3 days. The second time was 31 hours after the first time and the third time was 25 hours after the second time. I got the sword the first time and third time, not the second time. I guess either I am really lucky or not too many on my server know about him (blackwater raiders) or a combination of both heh. All I know is I'm definitely flyin to gadgetzan and patrolling the central east side of the flats once or twice a day.

This guy has crazy armor and is a lot harder than typical 37 elites.....but is no problem for me (45 rogue). My ambush usually crits for around 900 to other mobs, it crits on him for about 200. He doesn't hit hard, though.

And someone said it isn't worth it and he's hard to find. WHAT? He's not even remotely hard to find....I fly to gadgetzan, mount, ride north and run into him. The only reason he'd be hard to find is if he isn't there because someone killed him recently. I really believe this is one of the best ways to make insane amounts of gold, if not THE best way. It takes practically no effort or time at all. If you're above 40, I recommend grinding him as much as you can.

Not a bad mob to camp once a day, and certainly worth checking when you're in Tanaris. His spawn zone seems very small and he's easy to spot among the white sands. It took me three times to get the sword, random greens the first two times, but hopefully worthwhile. I just wish my druid could use it while tanking.

He's not called the invincible for nothing. At 41 it's just an endurance match (albeit an easy one). Don't try to go all out melee on him, it's much easier to just bleed his 2700+ hp away and stay alive. My normal 144-182 hits were doing 44 to him with faerie fire burning armor away.

me at lvl31warri, another31warri and a 34 druid slayed him after 4mins of battle(battleshout faded twice!). i needed sword and got it^^

I still use this on occasion, tank domo with it too.

Its a fun weapon!

Pwn'd this bastard as a lvl38 frost mage. (I have +143 dmg ^^) He was cake to kill so I'm gonna do this more times, dropped the sword :)

how long does it take for this dude to respawn. I found him and attempted to kill him with myself a 34 rougue and 3 other 33s and we all died. this guy has mega hp. i went to get a lvl 60 guildmate and when i came back he was gone and no where to be seen.

Sold this today for ~10g instantly on the AH (TSM bot I guess) but I have no idea why someone would pay that. This items seems awful, does it have a practical use outside of maybe being an OK levelling weapon for Rogues solely because of it's sheet DPS?
