Classic Speed Record: Onyxia in 58 Seconds with 33 Hunters

Only a day after an all
naked raid group took down Onyxia
, the daughter of Deathwing has been bullied once again as a raid group from <Fully Exposed> on Herod-US has set a new world speed record, slaying the dragon in 58.73 seconds! Bringing a very stacked raid group of 33 Hunters in order to burn through the bosses time in the air during phase 2 as quickly as possible, she had just enough time to cast
Bellowing Roar
before falling to the combined barrage.
The full log
of the encounter is already up on Warcraftlogs, though the fight is short enough that there's not really a whole lot to say! Composition wise... well they brought a lot of Hunters! The Warlock and Rogue were really only there for debuff support, providing important effects such as
Curse of Recklessness
and
Expose Armor
, while the Warrior and Druids tanked the boss and whelps respectively. Damage wise, about 47% of the bosses incoming damage was from Auto Shots, while a smattering of abilities provided the rest of the damage to bring her down.
Interesting here is the choice to use Hunters as opposed to any other kind of ranged class. While certainly some Mages could have been used, Hunters are very useful in particular due to their ability to reset their aggro with
Feign Death
, allowing them much more latitude with regards to burst damage. More importantly, the Hunter's
Dragonstalker Armor
set bonus debuff
Expose Weakness
made all the difference for ramping up the raids damage. Shared by Gunzbngbng from the group's discord -
Every 8/8 T2 Hunter, on average, attributes about 9dps to the bottom line to every other hunter in the raid. And yes. It stacks.
If you had a raid with two hunters, one with and one without, the set bonus would attribute about 18dps. But, if you have two hunters with the set bonus, it becomes 36dps.
If you have ten hunters, the math looks like this. (10^2)9=900dps.
If you have twenty hunters: (20^2)9=3200dps.
Thirty hunters: (30^2)9=8100dps. Adding 270 dps to the bottom line of every single hunter in the raid.
As you can see, every hunter added exponentially increases the output of the set bonus. The game plan is to stack raids with 26-32 full T2 hunters and see how far we can push this absurdity.
Can we break a few records abusing this mechanic? Let's find out.
Edit: We found out.
-Gunzbngbng, Herod Horde
Despite these advantages, their record is not without competition though, as it's only barely faster than the rest. That said, it currently reigns supreme as the only recorded kill in less than one minute.
