Kul Tiras Armor
Over the summer we
datamined some quest armor called Kul Tiras
in the database for Kul Tiras Quest Armor. These icons all follow the naming scheme of Inv_boots_cloth_kultirasquest_b_01, which is
similar to the naming scheme of icons used for quest gear in previous expansions. Here are some examples (
full list of icons with "quest"
Zooming in on the side armor on the skirt, we can more clearly see a map to a new zone, as well as some tentacle decorations underneath. Could this mean the Old Gods, such as
, will play a role in the expansion?
Bellular has a nice explanation of the armor and how it relates to Kul Tiras:
Jaina Key Art
Jaina is the Warcraft character for the BlizzCon 2017 Key Art. In the past, some characters on the key art have played major roles--but on an inconsistent basis:
2013 - Garrosh Hellscream, Warlords of Draenor announced
2014 - Group picture, includes Sylvanas - no major announcements
2015 - Illidan, Legion news revealed
2016 - Chromie, Patch 7.2 news
2017 - Jaina, ??
Before the Storm
A new novel,
Before the Storm
, was recently revealed.
While the title is fairly generic, Jaina does have special storm powers. In the quest
Assicurarsi un futuro
, Jaina infuses
Bastone di Antonidas
with the powers of the Storm King
. This quest is given to players Exalted with the
Rivalsa del Kirin Tor
It is rumored that the Thunder King's power comes directly from a hidden source within his palace.
Even when he is defeated a new tyrant, Garrosh perhaps, could still use this magic to a terrible end.
That is unless we make the first move!
Take my staff into the Pinnacle of Storms. Once Lei Shen has been defeated place my staff in the center of his dais.
We will drain the rest of his power and make sure it stays in our hands.
While the staff was infused, Jaina never did use it on Garrosh in the Siege of Orgrimmar. Perhaps she could use the power of her weapon in the upcoming expansion.
Patch 7.3.2 added three encrypted models: ArmoredRaptor mount, Tottle BattlePet, and SeaBraidStallion.
The SeaBraidStallion sounds like it could be some sort of collector's edition mount related to Kul Tiras. The human racial mount is a horse, and the name of this model has a nautical flavor. Perhaps the SeaBraidStallion and ArmoredRaptor will be Alliance and Horde mounts--similar to the BlizzCon 2017 faction rewards.
datamined the mount filenames
but they don't shed much light on the mount's purpose.
Blizzard frequently encrypts models that are used for Collector's Edition, In-Game Shop, or BlizzCon prizes. Some recent examples include
Predacieli di Roccavento
Intercettore di Orgrimmar
Peep! This last one is likely a bit of a stretch, but
Piccolo Cappello da Pirata
is now a
Pirate Pepe Plush
, making its debut during the BlizzCon 2017 Merchandise Sale.
While Pirate Pepe could point towards a maritime expansion--it's just as likely he was scheduled to release around
Giorno dei Pirati
but the Gear Shop had some unexpected delays. Originally scheduled to return in early August, the Gear Shop instead reopened in late September.
The History of Kul Tiras
We haven't seen Kul Tiras much in World of Warcraft, although
Soldato di Kul Tiras
are present in Azsuna. Here's a brief history of this nation-state:
Kul Tiras is an island nation-state and booming trading post, run by a Lord Admiral.
During Daelin Proudmoore's reign, Lothar promoted him to the Grand Admiral of the Alliance Navy. While the navy was significantly weakened in the Second War, the Alliance were victorious.
With the Dark Portal reopened and the start of the Third War, the Kul Tiras navy was once again needed. Jaina took most of the fleet to sail west to Kalimdor, in the hopes that meeting a mysterious prophet would be the key to saving humanity. After continuously clashing with the Horde, Jaina found the prophet--along with Thrall. They learned of the threat of the Burning Legion and agreed to put their differences aside to fight the corrupted Horde. Jaina then established Theramore in Dustwallow Marsh.
When the Grand Admiral sailed west, he was not so kind to the orcs. Skirmishes with the Orcs and Trolls on Echo Isles popped up, which escalated to an assassination attempt on Thrall's life.
Tensions continued to escalate and the Grand Admiral ordered a full-on attack of Ogrimmar. Jaina betrayed her father, giving Thrall advice on how to best the Theramore blockade. Jaina's father died in the ensuing battle, but Jaina's soldiers and the treaty with Theramore was protected.
We have not seen the isle of Kul Tiras in World of Warcraft, although Cataclysm added
Forte di Baradin
, a prison created by Kul Tiras. The Kul Tiras anchor can also be found on Theramore banners--blue, not green.

Jaina in WoW
Jaina has been a major character in
World of Warcraft
, with a conspicuous absence in Legion.
In the early expansions, Jaina served as a peacemaker as the ruler of Theramore and ally of Thrall, with a large role in Wrath of the Lich King. As part of the Wrathgate questline, she prevented an all-out war between the Alliance and Horde in
following the aftermath of the deaths of Bolvar and Saurfang. In the
Ulduar Patch Trailer
, she tries to focus on peace and the threats of the Old Gods, instead of faction bickering.
Jaina then plays a major role in the Icecrown Citadel patch, looking to redeem Arthas in the
Frozen Halls Dungeons
. She bursts into tears after the
Araldo della Morte Faucisaure
encounter, proud that Varian has set faction differences aside and allows the Elder Saurfang to grieve over his son. Upon completing the
quest chain, players are awarded
Medaglione di Jaina
, a handy teleportation item.
In the novel
Tides of War
, Jaina undergoes a traumatic experience--Garrosh blows up the entirety of Theramore with a mana bomb. Jaina was only able to survive due to Rhonin's sacrifice, but the force of the radiation turned her hair white. Putting aside her ideas of peace, she wanted to retaliate by summoning a tsunami to wipe out Orgrimmar. The only way she was halted was by remembering Arthas' extreme actions and wanting to not turn into him, twisted by vengeance.
Throughout Mists of Pandaria, Jaina has a major role, expelling the Horde from Dalaran after they
stole the Divine Bell for Garrosh
, founded the
Kirin Tor Offensive
to curtail the power of the Thunder King (and prevent the Horde from taking it), and fought in the
Assedio di Orgrimmar
In the novel
, Jaina repeatedly testifies before the council over Garrosh's actions, reflecting on her own feelings and eventually proclaiming that the Horde was not Garrosh--a nuanced viewpoint, different from her goal at the end of Siege of Orgrimmar to dismantle the Horde. When Garrosh escapes, Jaina is grievously wounded and is only brought back to health by the Pandaren Celestial Chi-Ji. At the end of the novel, there is some closure as Jaina has patched up her friendship with Thrall, Vol'jin is sympathetic to the ordeals she faced, and many faction leaders have a more nuanced understanding of Theramore.
The last time we see Jaina is at the start of Legion, battling on the Broken Shore. While she observed Varian's heroic sacrifice first-hand, she misinterpreted the actions of the Horde, believing them to have retreated on purpose and betrayed the Alliance (
Il leone caduto
). She then clashes with the Council of Six, refusing to let the Horde into Dalaran. When she is outvoted, she leaves Dalaran, warning the Kirin Tor against the Horde (
Chiamata del Concilio
). You can see both questlines and cinematics
in our guide
Much of Jaina's character development isn't covered in game, so we recommend you give
Tides of War
a read. You can also check out Jaina's
