No Armory/Profile Page Support at WoW Classic Launch

Blizzard has announced there is no Armory/Profile Page support for WoW Classic at launch. This is due to the fact that the actual Armory was not created until Burning Crusade, so Blizzard is trying to preserve the authentic vanilla experience. Without an armory, players need to meet face-to-face in game to inspect each other for gear, and even so, there is no option
at all
to inspect players for talents.
Back in May, we
interviewed the WoW Classic team
about armory support, and were told they were thinking about it, but were unsure if it would be ready for launch:
There are many wonderful community tools that have popped up over the course of WoW’s history, that rely upon the API for profiles added in later expansions, such as quest or mount tracking, or character gear recommendations. Will there be classic support in the API?
I think we plan to do it, but not sure if we'll have it for launch. We're trying to make sure that API is available, but the timeline for launch we're unsure about.
Without Armory support and the ability to know about a character's talents/stats out-of-game, many character tools on 3rd-party sites cannot automatically update. Wowhead, for example, relies upon the API from the Armory to power our Twitch Extension for talents/gear, Flying Tracker, and Mount Completion Tool. These websites and features have changed how players have encountered WoW over the years, so by not providing an Armory at launch, Blizzard will also try to recreate a simpler era for fansites.

Q. Will there be an Armory for WoW Classic?
A. There was no Armory for World of Warcraft until the Burning Crusade. If you wanted to know more about a player’s gear before you invited them to your party, you had to meet them in the world and physically inspect them (and you couldn’t inspect players of the opposite faction until 2.4). You couldn’t see their spec or talent builds when you inspected them, either. To maintain that same dynamic, we won’t have an Armory or profile pages for WoW Classic at launch.
