In Blizzard's latest WoW Classic with Creators video, they interview Alex Afrasiabi. Known in the World of Warcraft forums as Furor, Afrasiabi is nowadays the Creative Director for World of Warcraft.
In real life, Alex Afrasiabi started off working on WoW as an associate quest designer. Afrasiabi's first quest in the WoW team was the quest
Bingles' Missing Supplies
in Loch Modan. Other notable additions provided by Afrasiabi include the infamous Duskwood NPC
Mor'Ladim
.
In the interview, Afrasiabi comments about one of the highlights in his career as a Blizzard employee: When his sister was giving birth to his first niece, Afrasiabi went to the hospital wearing his World of Warcraft bowling shirt with his name on it, and one nurse recognizes the shirt as a WoW shirt, and she started raving about how much she loved the game.
Afrasiabi has a lot of references pointing to him in WoW, both on his name, his forum alias, and some other references:
There are a lot of items named after Furor, or as he is known in World of Warcraft, Foror:
Foror's Compendium of Dragon Slaying
,
Foror's Eyepatch
, and the beta item
Foror's Crate of Endless Resist Gear Storage
.
Together with
Jeff Kaplan
, who was known as Tigole in EverQuest, Afrasiabi was part of the guild Fires of Heaven. There are more items that reference both Afrasiabi and Kaplan:
Tigule and Foror's Strawberry Ice Cream
,
Autographed Picture of Foror & Tigule
Afrasiabi's forum name is not the only nickname that gets homages in WoW, with many items and NPCs named after his very own name: The NPCs
Fras Siabi
and
Field Marshal Afrasiabi
, the item and
Fras Siabi's Postbox Key
as well as the quest
The Great Fras Siabi
, among other references.
Even Afrasiabi's characters get references in WoW:
In EverQuest, Afrasiabi was known as Kalaran, referenced by the NPC
Kalaran Windblade
in Searing Gorge.
In WoW, Afrasiabi's first character was Kariel, who also received references:
Skeletal Remains of Kariel Winthalus
.
