I feel bad for the guy with the Pierre pet story... I recently found an alt sitting on some jard peculiar energy sticks, I made a sky golem, pierre and rascal-bot and since then I've sold 3 sky golems but none of the 2 pets... Now I regret I even crafted them, should've made just another sky golem instead. Also majority of my pet sales seem to go to market resetters. Let's say a pet is for 2k currently, I list it for that price, at some point it sells... oh look, all the pets of that type are 6k now (typical reset). I can "undercut by 1 copper" that 6k for weeks and it won't sell until someone dumps some cheap pets, lowers the price and then the cycle starts anew. Problem with pet "arbitrage" is you can see it for 2k on server A and 6k on server B but you will NEVER sell it for 6k on server B, it will sit there for ages until it drops back to 2k and then some sniper / resetter takes them because he saw them for 6k on server C... I also used to sell old BOE recipes and patterns, unfortunately now that you don't have automatically the skills in the old expansion brackets, I feel that market took a hit too.
Thanks :)
Thanks for the references to TSM, never knew about this addon. I think the only way that Blizzard's tried handling price resetting is through the auction house cut at and the deposit fee changes. Personally for certain things I feel that the cut is too high, for example with a current BOE epic piece of gear or the more expensive items that are crafted that use a lot of mats such as flasks.
> How do you feel about 'gold' in WoW right now, do you value it more or less than in Legion? Do you prefer to acquire gold from the mission table or farm/play the Auction House for it? What's your favourite gold-making method in patch 8.0?Gold is far more valuable. The token cost alone should inform this. I've gone from averaging 128k/day in Legion in sales, to as of today, a 58k 30-day average and a 40k 7-day average. I'm getting roughly equivalent # of sales per day as in Legion, but it's only the cheap items. Anything made from Khorium or Arcanite, for example, hasn't sold in 2 months.I've always been an auctioner for my profit, and that's how I prefer it. I did maximize the garrison and order hall while they were there, but only on my main. Not going wild with alts like some people.
This week I listed a bunch of feasts with my scroll wheel as I always do only to discover that somehow they were listed for only 1g each. Of course a sniper got them before I could remedy it. So frustrating. I still don't know what caused it. With all the errors that pop up in BGs and now this I wish I just stayed with TSM 3.
I’ve been very successful with selling battle pets. I have 50 specific pets I sell and usually 4-5 of them a day for 25k profit. I’ve got about 4 years prepaid subscription and I’m working on getting my long Boi. I agree with the author tho. Any pet that sells for over 20K could take FOREVER to flip. I sell almost all my pets for 8K.
They really need to up the gold from world quests a bit I feel. Nurfing the table missions some was fine (they didn't need to obliterate it though), but it should feel more productive doing world quests than it currently does.
I use minipets to move gold to different servers. "Crafted" pets are handy for that, especially if I can get the mats fairly early when the recipe and/or quest is relatively new. If I want to get gold fairly quickly, I accept that I'm going to take a loss. I throw a range of pets on the AH, from fairly common/cheap to somewhat rare. My main server's pet market tends to be more expensive than average, so I've built up a little bank on a few other servers that tend to have cheap pets, just so I can snag rare pets when there's a good deal there.
Yeah I regret getting into the pet market, I have a lot of rarer legion pets stockpiled, as I read a post on r/woweconomy that listed a bunch of pets that were on the cheap end were rare. Its taken a lot longer than I expected to sell them cause its been a few months and they still average around 10k when I bought a bulk of them for about 6k. 4k per is not what I was hoping for. However because they only cost 1s for 48hrs is the only saving grace, for when/if they do sell, it should work out. My main is moving servers so I am hoping they might sell better there. Thrall didn't seem to be a great spot for gold making anyway. Too big of a realm. Fortunately for myself I sold a 395 Mythic Warforged piece with Speed on it from Uldir I got the last week for about 365k So I am not worried about my gold total atm.
Gold is more valuable because of the MASSIVE deflation removing the legion mission table gold source caused. Additionally, money sinks like the AH mount removes tons of gold from the economy. That's why it's difficult to sell stuff now. It's really difficult to make money outside of the AH now. But with deflation happening, it will be increasingly harder to sell stuff. I miss having money like I used to =(
Pets on the market, oh my, that's a river of a topic.Firstly, one, crucial truth about AH has been completely omitted here. Newcomers to the AH, as well as nearly all goldmaking streamers and influencers, universally refer to the LISTED values as MARKET values. This is a smoking, steamy pile of BS. Every economy handbook defines "price", "market value", "market price" of something as the "highest monetary value that the seller is willing to accept and the buyer is able and willing to pay at the given moment". And the bolded out is the issue: Blizzard DOES NOT give anyone any information if the pet that was listed for 29'000 actually sold, or if it is just some poor soul trying to make it look like there is a market in Pierre's by repeatedly posting the same pet for months. As such, all the AH databases out there, are NOT giving you any market value information. They merely give you asking prices you see in the AH, without crucial information if the items sold or not.The single, real defining element that actually makes a successful auction house goblin is the slowly accumulated knowledge about at what prices things actually sell. And no goblin will easily share that information, particularly if it is up to date (I did see quite a few shares in the past where no longer actual knowledge was put in a stream or blog once its value dropped).Keeping those fundamentals in mind... when dealing with pets, there are several things to consider.Firstly, pet rarity. Don't ever expect easy big golds out of a pet that can be easily farmed out - if anything, expect competition.Second, pet build. Pets come with specific Health, Power, Speed breeds, and some pets have more than one such combination. This is quite often crucial for using such pet in a particular battle - which pet goes first or which has enough HP to take X hits CAN determine the battle outcome, and your market, pet battlers, are checking this. So should you - unless you're selling a pet that has just one build.Third, rarity and level. Rarity upgrade stones and leveling stones (or leveling in battles) are still a time investment, and to be honest, I made most of my pet money by buying certain pets as level 1 greens, and selling them as level 25 blues. Your market value benchmark here is time/effort needed to get necessary upgrade items.Fourth, benchmark crafted pets. This brings us to the Pierre in question. Before you try to list that, check what's needed to make one, Yes, there's significant time gate there, but mats are straight-forward... and cheap. Nobody will drop a big sum on a pet like that. Second, as this one comes rare as baseline, maybe try leveling to put a bit more value into it... alas, mechanical pets are a dime a dozen, and have limited usability. Fifth, be aware of pet battle usability. In te mechanical family I mentioned, the outlier is the Iron Starlette. This is a once-per-toon quest reward which can be caged and sold. While getting one yourself isn't all that hard, some battlers might be willing to drop gold when they don't have one and need one for a battle that's up for them RIGHT NOW - and that particular pet is a staple for pet battles, including several BfA world quest battles - so battle-ready level 25s do sell. Similiarly, there may be specific battles where a given pet is particularly useful, because it is both resistant to attacks from that enemy and has an attack that's advantageously strong against that enemy. If you know which pets are useful for which battles, and check which battles are up at the moment, you know just which pet might sell that day - especially if you make sure your listing is rare and level 25, ready for battle.Using those rules (an a few more) I successfully arbitrated markets on two servers I have active toons on, but as it was already mentioned, very truthfully - the market is VERY slow-moving. Honestly, I think that in the end, I might have spent equal amounts on pets I was buying to buff my own collection, even if I was always bargain-hunting patiently when shopping for myself.
i personally think the economy has really shifted simply because of the low population of players playing BFA, the basic principle of demand and supply tells us that there is less demand for goods in BFA, any kind of goods from the low farming to the high demand pets and mounts and xmogs, its takes more time to sell goods now and i simply believe its a decline in players in BFA. i am in the battle pets market and i have not see it move so slow as in BFA, same with my mats and xmogs.
Didn't know that World Quests are considered end-game content.Btw I'm also making a lot less gold than in previous expansions, but I assume the reason for that is that I don't log with days... cause the current state of the game is that good.
pets are losing value as more people do them, as with transmog. The good old farming crafting mats and grey items to vendor will never get too much people doing it as explained by the crafting part. The problem is you need to sell your crafted items before they drop too much - so you may need to farm your own crafting mats to sell to expect profits. Because when the material costs you nothing - you can only make money. However like all economy's its all risk vs reward. Ain't nobody going to get rich unless they really know how people on certain servers think and buy.
Gold making is in a horrible state in BFA. Going back to legion is a better option than current content. The best way to acquire gold is through the AH however making gold is extremely limited. World Quests and mission tables are simply way more effort than they are worth. As bad as the core systems in WOD were, at least I had the mission table to keep me coming in to do things for rewards. BFA is even worse than WOD because it isn't even rewarding to play. Frankly the Kowalkowski guy should be removed from his position if he thinks that the current reward system is acceptable to the player base.
My bank balance of gold is diminishing because the ability to make gold has become much tougher and the outgoings far outstrip the incomings by just doing WQs and emissaries or running the old raids. While the cost of tokens has halved, I don't think it's reduced enough to reflect the current status. This is also evidenced by the increase in gold selling spammers in game and the amount of farm bots around. It's disheartening to see and I'm reporting the same bots over and over again, which is even more annoying because it feels like Blizz doesn't really care about them.I don't mind the scarcity of gold providing everyone is subject to the same circumstances, but as long as people buy gold and/or run bots to farm it, that just makes the playing field uneven.
I think the main issue with the mission table is not even the miniscule rewards - it's that order hall ressources (or whatever they are called now) are just a pain in the ass to farm on alts. In legion i would gear one bodyguard for OHR, do WQs ONCE and have enough of them for weeks, unless i was going for the rare missions, which i would not do on an Alt.But now? Now i actively have to play a LOT of WQs on each and every char to have enough ressources to send them out on missions that award almost no gold. The WQs take longer, traveling is %^&* with 2 distinct islands, the WQ are a LOT worse than Legion, too and the WQGF was removed on top of that.....as Horde, getting around the hub to your table alone is dishearteningly tedious. Is that an improvement over WoD+Legion? Only if you think that not doing anything is better than doing something...because the prior is what most people i know in the game chose to do.I don't like it.IMHO, BFA is an expansion with severe flaws in the reward structure of all of its systems. Most notably gear, but gold is also a part of it. Many people i know in the game simply don#t find a reason to login and do anything, because there is no reward at all.
