Here's my take on this: Blizz is squishing levels to 60, but we get a talent every 10 levels. Feels good, right? Except, it means that we lose two talent rows right off the bat. That means that we will have to wait until the end of 9.0 to get one talent row back and then 10.0 to get our last talent row back. Easy peasy for Blizz... no extra work, everyone's happy because they get talents every 10 levels and Blizz doesn't have to work at creating any new talent rows, they can just give us back the ones they took away.My prediction: 1. Waterstriders lose their waterwalking ability, but we get our "mount equipment." At the end of BfA, we're told that the "mount equipment" was a BfA perk and it's taken away at the beginning of the next expansion. Or, the mount equipment slot will say "Only applies in Zandalar and Kul Tiras."2. We get a level squish and get talents every 10 levels, losing two talent rows in BfA. We will get one talent row back at the end of 9.0 and get our last talent row back at the end of 10.0.3. It will take just as long to level from 1 to 60 as it does from 1 to 120.This brings up another question... what will happen to mounted travel? Will all of the flying be condensed into one skill, only attainable at level 60? And, at the slowest rate?No thank you. I like things just the way they are.
WoW Devs: Big numbers are hard for players so let's squish stats every few expansions.Diablo Devs: We've got numbers so big they'll make your eyes EXPLODE!WoW Devs: It would be silly for players to stay in old content so let's take portals away to discourage players from staying in old content.Diablo Devs: You want to keep playing old content? NO PROBLEM! We've got higher difficulties for days! We even added some more this season!WoW Devs: OMG, 120 levels is too many levels. We've gotta squish them!Diablo Devs: We've got Paragon Levels so you can level FOREVER!I'm really not convinced that Big Numbers are the problem... unless the WoW devs have Meganumerophobia.
No thanks
I like Ikedachaos' idea. I've played almost every day for 13 years and don't like the idea of being squashed, or squished. Perfectly happy to just do new content and get pretty things, and herb and mine and make new potions, etc. Crafting has gotten horribly lame in BfA, only pots and some gems seem to be worth the effort and sell.
Perhaps if Blizz is worried that new players will be intimidated by 120 levels to get to new content, they might offer a level boost for money, like name and faction changes. $5 will get you 20 levels or something. 1-100 would cost $25, so if anyone got intimidated by the so many levels, they could buy their way higher....
Instead of doing a level squish - Why not go back to the golden days of WoW - where talent points actually mattered and you had to think about how you spent all those 71 talent points instead of having just 10 for a total for 120 levels.Starting from level 10 and getting one point per two levels until that final 110-120 run, where to avoid getting that feeling of becoming weaker (due to item level scaling with world levels) getting one point per each level could potentially disappear - depending on those final points ofcourse. This would fix some of the issues mentioned in the post and give it that "Elder Scrolls" feeling that we are currently missing. It will make characters a bit more customizable. Even if people go back to following those one-pitch guides, where everyone is running around with the same talent trees, it will atleast give the players the choice of customization that we are currently lacking with this Azerite gear. The idea behind Azerite gear is relatively close, but has made the gameplay much too dependant on it, and getting the right pieces has become much too difficult. This has taken the fun out of gearing. I mean if I have to do +15 keys for 3 weeks in a row to buy a single random end-game piece of gear. Then I don't have the choice of customization. I have a choice of best optimization. And if a player makes the wrong choice, fixing it is rather problematic.
No level squish please and thank you.
People think it’s gonna be the answer for everything! It won’t! Do you think blizzard will let players lvl up faster? They won’t. It will still take the same amount of time leveling with the lvl squish just like without it. And again nothing new, just the same only the numbers of lvls won’t be 100+ anymore.
You don't really need a level squish although it would be nice. Instead:Bring back reforgingBring back non-aesthetic glyphsBring back raid buffsBring back old talent treesBring back shaman totemsBring back dynamic boss fights (e.g. sunder armor stacks, tanks stacking frost resist, etc)Bring back class dynamics (e.g. "we need to bring a mage for the polymorph ability")Making crafting actually matterBring back things that actually made the game interesting and engaging.Do these things and you will see people come back in droves.Make player choices actually matter. I cannot for the life of me figure out why blizz even bothered to remove these things. Now you just press four buttons over and over to win. It seems like they were pressured by Activision to make the game more streamlined and casual to suit a wider audience and it was totally gutted. Let this be an example how worthless the opinions of soulless executives are, who have never played a video game in their lives. But the real tragedy of all it is that blizz will always get positive feedback from new players because they do not see just how ruined the game is now.
