I find the people who say that "ma RPG" choice is important very funny. There probably will be 2 scenarios for you guys:1. You casual so much that it wouldn't change a thing for you if covenants were freely swapable for people who care.2. You will complain and cry on the forums after you find out that raider.io, the basis of nearly every LFG group, adds a line where people can see your covenant and then decide to not invite you because they would rather take someone who picked the best and not a RPG choice.OR, the community deems your covenant bad, like they did with shaman and warlock in BFA, and just simply dont invite you over every other player. Because why would I invite somebody to my grp if he doesnt care about his character performance?
They talked about beta. Why dont you include that?
I really don't want covenants swapping being easy, make a choice, life is full of them.

I feel like Preach should have moved on after the first 20 minutes of getting same response from Ion. It's obvious Ion wasn't going to budge on it for now. The entire interview went:Preach: Covenant design is bad.Ion: Is it though? Look at it this way...Preach: That way is bad.Ion: Then look at it this way...Preach: I disagreeand just kept going back and forth for an hour. Wish he moved on and asked other important questions like class balance/conduits/GCD/tuning/M+ affix/etc
I don't understand why it's so hard or so wrong for players to be able to pick a covenant for RP reasons and aesthetics and allow the player to then pick and chose the ability they want as a reward and give us the option to swap those abilities out similar to the way we respec. I really do not like being forced into something and then when a patch or hotfix is released finding out that my covenant ability was nerfed "to the ground". Just feels bad man! Ion always does this crap too... getting really tired of his inability to be flexible.
This whole debacle reminds me that Alts exist...
Man I really miss the days where everyone doesnt have to be the best at everything. There was a time when Shamans were trash for every category.. I still played one, why? because it was fun.To those people that are saying "if I dont choose X, then I cant get in a group" Can't you make your own groups? I don't understand why people that can't get a group don't just make their own groups. Remove all the requirements, fire up your group and list it as "fun mythic +10, need not be optimal"I would take a good attitude over highly competitive any day. Also by now everyone has been given every opportunity to create max level alts. I have 10 level 120 characters, if I don't like one character just switch to the other one. Play one for fun and one for groups. It seems people want an Overwatch or Fortnite style game, where everyone is exactly the same and there is very little choice, other than maybe your class. What would people like better ,some covenant system that only changed your cosmetics? but everyone had the same 3 spells. I think this looks great and I am excited to see what each covenant does.
I'm confused as to why the abilities need to be tied to the choice. Nobody in favor of them being locked has yet to explain why it matters to them. If you're going to pick purely on aesthetics and story, why does it matter, to you, that the power is locked in there with it? Why can't the powers be something granted to us begrudgingly by all the Covenants for the greater good of saving their land and the entire afterlife? Make changing the powers require being at Oribos and talking to someone, they are supposed to be neutral after all. Everyone gets their choice for story and cosmetics, while everyone can pick the powers they need for their spec, role, content... with literally no downside. It's a win win scenario. I personally want to pick covenants purely on who I think each of my 49 level capped toons would want to help, but so far Blizzard's track record on balance of their 'systems' has been beyond terrible and at times completely unacceptable. Expecting them to suddenly get it right this time is like Charlie Brown trying to kick that football. I'm so tired of Ion and his 'systems'. I just want the base of the game to be fun again.
