I have seen a lot of questions here on the u/woweconomy Reddit about professions, older crafts, and combinations of professions. Now I could answer every post or just make here one by explaining a couple of things and showing older crafts as profession set-ups.

To make one thing clear, there is and will not be a "best profession" in Shadowlands, some are a bit better (depending on the expansion, expansion timeline, demand, and competition on your realm) but overall, it's better to have them all. Even if there was a "best one" then the majority would go for it and it would become the worst profession.

There is also never a perfect combination of professions, it all comes to your own preferences. That is the best combination. Now if you ask what profession works better or is more efficient, then there are some answers waiting for you.

Keep in mind that my guides are based on what I think are the most effective ways to min-max production. It's not built when it comes to rep locked recipes. Getting the rep is temporary while having a good setup is forever. I also suggest some classes and races because of their racial trait.

Don't just focus on what I am showing you. Try things out, look for other websites and content creators that have their ideas on professions. Keep in mind that there isn't a "best way or profession", it all comes to personal preferences, realm, expansion, and demand.

I hope this will give you all better guidance for making your profession choices.
Making the jump: 100k to 1 millionu/DialMforMistakes
Hi Goblins,

I am a returning player that hasn't played much since Cataclysm. I started 2 weeks ago with 7k gold, some old world crafting mats, and an army of alts ranging from level 25-35 (post level squish). Right now I'm hovering at 100k liquid. Most of my gold has been made from leveling alts, gathering old world mats, flipping crafting materials on the AH, and a few open world raw gold farms. I've started farming dungeons for transmogs, but I'm still building up inventory (about 150 items, majority worth under a 2000 gold) and do not expect to make a profit quite yet.

I'm all about setting goals--my initial goal is to pay for game time via gold-making with a secondary dream goal of paying for Shadowlands with the gold I've made. And yes, I have a job, but this is just a fun game goal I'm setting for myself.

For those of you that have made the jump from 100k to 1 million, what tips, farms, or changes in mindset do you suggest for a baby goblin hoping to make the jump from 100k to 1 million?

Of note, I think my AH flips may be too...conservative. I only regularly flip crafting mats that are selling at 60% or lower of the region sale average and rarely spend more than 1k on any single crafting mat flip. Do I need to be taking more risks with flips? Resetting the market on a single items scares me as I frequently get undercut (high pop server).

Here's a list of potential gold-making resources I have at my disposal:

Level 50 druid with mining/herbalism (not speed twinked)
A mostly copied TSM using Sheyrah's operations.
Alchemist with vanilla, Outland, Northrend, and Cataclysm alchemy maxed.
Tailor with vanilla, Outland, and Northrend tailoring maxed.
Jewelcrafter with vanilla, Outland, and Northrend jewelcrafting maxed.
Inscriptor with vanilla, Outland, and Northrend inscription maxed.
100k liquid gold.
A slowly growing transmog inventory.
Baby garrison on my tailor with inscription/tailoring.

All suggestions are welcome, I'm looking to learn!

I feel like once I hit 100K it seems to pick up steam. I also have a max level Druid with herb and mining, and leading up to pre-patch I will still doing well with those gathering professions, typically farming an hour or so at a time. I also made uncanny gear, potions flasks etc... and that built up some gold as well. Right now I am mostly just buying AH stuff around 80% or less and flipping that for easy gold. Plus world quests, emissary and whatever else fun I find.

Look for what benefits alts - right now many are leveling alts as there is a content drought until the pre launch event begins. Think of alts not only during leveling (easy maintenance gear or bags) but also fresh max (catch up gear like uncanny to jump them into higher level dungeons and other content)

For me personally I started making serious gold when I ditched my herbalism and switched mostly to crafting (and leveled alts with bfa professions; my absolute peak was making 3,5mln profit in one month when I was stuck at home). That said there is gold to be made in farming but for me that's just too boring. But my advice right now wont help you very much. Bfa professions are less and less valuable and a point where it would still be worth to level them has passed two months ago. If you dont have marks of honor for ranks honestly I wouldnt bother and focus on getting a good set up for Shadowlands. Level alts, set up garrisons on alts and try to max as many old professions as possible (once you have more capital). Things I would especially focus on are crafted mounts althoguh maybe its just because I like this market.

Some small flipping is fine and being at your place I wouldnt get too confident. If you dont mind farming start there as its easy and consistent market. Bfa herbs are pretty bad to farm right now but old world goodies like Azshara's Veil, Cinderbloom, Whiptail, Dreamleaf should have decent prices. If you want to make 1mln before SL I would rather stray away from farming xmog. You would have to do nothing else all day to build inventory and even then its a slow market. Raw gold is also an option.

From professions I can give you a few tips on what to craft that's gonna sell relatively fast and with a good profit. Warbear Woolies very popular xmog from LW and Shadoweave Mask from Tailoring. First pattern is easy to farm and Mask pattern you can buy from ah. 100% worth to buy it as long as the Mask is not undercut to oblivion. Im right now selling them for 3k and its one sold every 2-3 days, sometimes every day.

The vast majority of my slow-but-steady gold comes simply from just crafting. Checking what has a good sale rate and decent profit margin, and just crafting a handful of items depending on sale rate. I'm currently on a high-pop server, but it still only has about 1/4 of the population as say Area52 or Stormrage, so it does depend a lot on the kind of server you're on, too.

I also hate farming, and prefer to just buy my raw materials from the AH as long as the price isn't too jacked up. My profit margin would be much larger if I farmed the materials myself, but that's more effort than I care to do. I made 5mil between the end of May 2020 and early August 2020 for my bruto and have been slacking pretty hard and not restocking as vigilantly, but am up to about 2.3mil liquid again.
Shadowlands Legendaries and Crafters Marku/ManthieusCrafter's Mark II
So I stumbled across an relatively drastic change to how you go about aquiring the Crafters Mark 2 pattern in Shadowlands.

This is the "Optional Reagent" to increase crafted gears item level to 168 while also increasing its level requirement to 60.

Previously you could grind rep with "The Avowed", and once at revered buy the pattern. This was level gated to 57 on your first character but could be started at 50 on an alt if you choose the "Threads of Fate" leveling mode. Providing a nice simple way for Alt to obtain the pattern for crafting.

This pattern has now been moved to Ve'nari in the Maw. Simply meaning it is now level 60 gated for EVERY character. To add to that, it will now also require probably close to 3-4 weeks of quite active play in the Maw to gain the "Cordial" standing in order to be purchased.

Iv posted a video giving more details and outlining my thoughs on this change.

TL:DR up front: Chromie Time enables people to level in BfA; green items at low ilvl vendor for almost nothing so people are posting them on the AH for cheap (10-50g); people who are actually getting those items at max level are trying to compete, but ilvl 50-57 items vendor for much much more; it seems that TSM can't always distinguish the vendor value between low ilvl and high ilvl items. I noticed something odd this morning when I was doing my routine vendor scans on TSM. For those that aren't so familiar, TSM has a built-in function to scan the AH and look for items that were posted for sale below their vendor value. At worst it's a quick flip for a few gold and at best you can sometimes snipe an item that can just be resold for Xmog.

Anyways, I stumbled across some green items that were posted super cheap, like 9-30g but their vendor values were 35-75g. I redid the vendor search and none of them were identified. So I first searched all armor items using the default WoW AH UI and sorted by ilvl, highest to lowest. Look for items with an ilvl between 50 and 57, search for the lowest price items per ilvl and then go into each item and look at the vendor values.

What has happened is that with Chromie Time people are able to level in BfA and get low ilvl green BoE drops of items that were previously max ilvl. Those items at max ilvl (50+ pretty much) vendor for a lot, upwards of 75g for 2h weapons. But at low level they vendor for almost nothing, so people are throwing them on the AH for 20-50g for Xmog. It seems that TSM is taking the tooltip value from the default item and not discriminating based on the ilvl. This doesn't always happen though so it might be the way that the default AH UI nests items with the same name? I'm not sure.

Anyways by manually searching the AH I ended up finding 7 items that were posted below vendor value. In the grand scheme of things this is not going to get anyone rich but I thought it was interesting and thought I'd share.

I'm not sure about the vendor search, but the different item levels via Chromie time and Relics of the Past is a very real concern. TSM groups can handle it via the "Ignore Item Variation" option while adding an item to a group, but there is currently way to get that functionality on the base group.

I know that was a conscious decision made to protect less experienced users, but maybe with the pre-patch it could be revisited?

1. Zandalari Mage: Tailor + Enchanting (2% gold racial for benefits mob grinding for cloth)
2. Troll Hunter: Skinning + Leatherwork (20% XP bonus for beasts, plus best DPS hunter race)
3. Nightborne Any Class: Inscription + Herb (+15 Inscription, Herb is secondary filler prof, can be any)
4. Any Race Rogue: Engineering + Jewelcrafting
5. Goblin Warrior or DK: Blacksmith + Alchemy (+15 goblin racial for alchemy)
6. Tauren (or Highmountain) Druid: Herb + Mining (Taurens have speed increase to herb, highmountain for mining... works like the BFA enchant across all expansions)

Going into shadowlands, having alts with stealth will help a lot with resource gathering. Rogues and Druids can spec talents into moving faster while in stealth than normal... obviously being mounted will be faster, but then you aggro everything too.

Goblin helps with exalted level vendor pricing so buying thread and mailing it to your tailor is a lot cheaper until they build up the rep.

Inscription and Jewelcrafting could be paired except that both take a TON of space in the bank. I choose to keep them separated.

If you choose to make your Nightborne a warrior then I would recommend pairing Blacksmith + Inscription, and freeing up your Goblin for another race. However, Nightborne warriors do not benefit from the 1%+ magic bonus as far as I know.
