Both sides has pluses and minuses. I'd say for me, dwarves are the coolest race, I just love them. Dun morogh and elwyn are by far the best starter areas. Alliance in general has much better zones, both aesthetically and practically, until outlands imo. The only major quest hub I miss from horde 1-58 is hinterlands. However taken as a whole the horde have much cooler races. Draeni look kind of lame, humans and night elves are boring. On the other hand every horde race is totally badass- orcs are my second favorite race, tauren are huge and burly, trolls have a unique flare, undead are simply cool, and if you get over their vocals blood elfs are actually a pretty neat looking race imo. Plus the blood elf starter zones are really cool to play in.Past that, things are more balanced in outlands and northrend. Quests and hubs are more mirrors of each other. Basically the horde has a more feral rugged look and alliance more gothic fantasy. Just becomes a preference.
Although my my main is a level 67 tauren druid (yeah, I'm a really slow leveler, been playing for about a year now and, well, I'm slow) but I still want, in one way or another to roll alliance. I played a human paladin to level 36 in a mere of a day and a half, and I loved it more than the tauren druid, way more. And lorewise, I've read about the biggest "heroes" of Azeroth and somewhat about the races, the wars and some more, and the alliance side is still the side that I feel the most drawn too. It's just that I don't want to reroll (again, I've had quite some alts during this year) because of the time and gold spent on my tauren, although he still feels like a pain in the ass to level. My only reason for still staying horde is just that my druid is level 67, I've put down some effort in him and all my friends play horde (except for one, but he is just a big tard who thinks he is better than everybody else). I wish someone could persuade me over to the "good side" :(
Give trolls dreadlocks and I will roll Horde faster than you can say "WTF?"
I play Horde BECAUSE I feel like I'm not a stereotype "OH NOEZ AN ORKS KILL IT FER EPIC LEWTZ" fantasy player.
K, I was on a lot of private servers, never payed for playing. But as private servers have a nasty habit of disappearing, I had to re-roll on a new server a few times. So what is the initial lore, the movie and first missions for races?Blood elves: We are all addicts, and half of us got mad because of getting out of our magic sources. Help us get our beloved drug again.Taureens: We are protectors of the land and wildlife, seeking peace. Please, go and kill some innocent creatures we protect just to prove you are a good hunter, like all of us are or want to be.Sorry, these are the only races I started on the horde side. If any other Horde race has a decent starting lore, please let me know.Night elves: We are the guardians of Nature and Harmony. That's why we live for, immortals or not, powerful or weak. But one of us was a selfish fool and planted a tree that was not blessed, so now the natural balance is in danger, please help us restore the balance. (Note there is no mourn from Nelves themselves about their immense loss and sacrifice in the war against Burning Legion. Appearance of anomalies in nature is far more important than their own problems.)Draenei: We lost so many in this crash, I am so glad you are still with us! Please, can you help us heal a few more of our survivors? We are so few, and there are so many needing help... (Again, not a word about the lost of their planet and entire civilization, just the will to carry on, to rebuild and to help the helpless. I quested in that area untill lvl 10 or so. I was a Draenei warrior, still used all my Gift of Naaru on wounded, not on myself. Kind of brought me joy to see people who were screaming in pain saying TY, and leaving for the Draeney field base there on their own hoofs, to help others.)Dwarfs: He-ya, little brotha'! Go, explore, find new things and then return to us, we'll be here waiting for you! And then: Hey, can you get this mead of warm drink to our brother? He'll be glad, I know he will. Just hurry up before it cools, cold it's not that good. (Warm and friendly and caring for each-other's little pleasures.)Humans: With our army still fighting against the Burning Legion in Outland, here are pretty few people who can wield a weapon or a spell and help us reestablish the order. Therefore, some people turned to cutthroats, knowing there will be no punishment for them. Can you get your weapon and help us reestablish the order? Will you be on the law side? (Again, not a word about their losses, just the deep-rotted belief that the light will prevail in the end and trouble can only last while the army is away. Implying their strong belief that the war in Outland can only be won, and the army will surely return.)Again sorry, I never started a Gnome. I don't know their story except they lost Gnomeragan because their brave warriors were overwhelmed by some level 20-25 trolls, and their best response to that was to irradiate themselves to die together with the trolls. As we can see, the trolls in Gnomeragan are OK, just gnomes are mutated, sick with leper and so on. I guess that they actually deserved it for not having at least one level 35 elite to stand and defend Gnomeragan in their entire race. If they would have had one, just one, they would have surely win the war. What would anybody want to be when role-playing? An addict? Dead before you even started to play? A troll? A race who needed others to help them from being extinct, who now carelessly bring toward extinction Striders, while claiming they protect the nature and all its beings?I made my choice, and lore-wise, I do not and never will think that being possessed by demons excuses anything. Kill a child yourself in Real life and claim you were possessed. Will anybody forgive you for that, blaming the demon? So whatever Orcs or any other race did, they did it, and they are the only ones guilty for their blood lust.I, for myself, choose to be either a Human striving for Law, Light and Justice, or a N-elf striving for the world's balance, or a small member of a large and happy Irish-like brotherhood, or someone who choose to look forward with faith to the light and beauty that will come, honoring and helped by his strong gods, instead of keeping mourn and hate and lust for revenge in his soul. I am Ally forever. I was Horde only once, because a friend of mine asked me to. Never again will I be an addict/paladin instead of a servant of Light or a starved-looking hairless lion with horns, instead of a proud black puma. (B elf pally or Taureen druid instead of Human Pally or N elf Druid)PS: Why you say lore-wise Horde is favored by Blizzard? Anyway, Ty to all guys who choosed to play on the ugly/bad side. We could not be heroes without your sacrifice.
"Let's face it--The Alliance is not terribly original. Humans, Dwarves, Elves, and Gnomes (and, uh, space aliens) are all fantasy staples."Uh... neither are Minotaurs, Trolls, Zombies, Elves, and hentai's favorite fantasy creature right next to tentacle monsters, Orcs.
The Horde is about as original as Final Combat.Take your standard big green klingons with axes, add in badly accented rapidly regenerating mucks, walking bulls, fallen versions of a "Good" race, dead things, greedy things, small green backstabbers (In this case, they're the greedy things). and there you go.How many of those do you see in another RPG?Alot. The only thing original was that since they were an ex-rts, you played as them from the start and thus there were fans who prefered to play as them, they added them as a playable faction.I played Human Paladin (Ret ones at that) because I always used a Paladin in Warcraft III as my favorite hero, followed by Mountain King and Death Knight.Lore-wise I watched and played the Human Campaign all the way til lthe end.I didn't understand how being willing to sacrfice everything to save your country would make you evil but being a psychotic murderous @#$% lets you get a DIE FOR OUR SINS momment. I more or less used skip cheatcodes over half the orc campaign because they were almost always just "grom ^&*!ed up again, go save him".
Should have rolled the good guys, Alliance instead of the evil Horde
