As entropic said, the pommel will be inside the chests that drop from the rotting slimes. The pommel is not guaranteed to be in the first or even second chest that drops, so just keep looking. These slimes can be found by following the main road east out of astranaar. You will come to a fork in the road that looks like a rounded off "Y". The south road, if you check the sign, will head to the barrens. Follow this road til you come to about the middle of its length. When you are at the middle of the road, look directly east. There should be a small lake with some level 27-30 timberling elementals. Direcly west from this spot is where you will find the slimes. Kill them until they drop a chest with your pommel in it. This is the last piece of the Rod! Celebrate, then head back to shael'dryn for the next step in the chain.

When I found it, the chest was just laying on a corpse that I happened upon. If you get lucky you can let someone else do the work of killing the slimes!

The slimes are South of Splintertree Post (East of Astranaar).
The Entrance - Without running into a lot of Red NPC's - is along the road just before Splintertree Post (To the south).

Dropped off a Rotting Slime (lvl 21) between the Warsong Labor Camp and The Dor'Danil Barrow Den. The chest is named Rusty Chest and it really drops on the ground, you won't get a chest into your inventory to open via looting a slime, the chest isn't locked either. So watch the ground around your killed Slimes, not to miss the chest.
There was 28 copper and a Silk Cloth in it, too ;)

Take the right toward the barrens. A very short way down the road, on the Left (east side), there will be an almost flat narrow valley looking area to walk through. There are also a few scouts up on the hill to the left when you first take the pass, be careful. Walk a little ways down the open area that looks almost like a pathway. You will see slime. Start killing. Keep walking and killing. The slime will drop a box. It will be sitting on the ground in the middle of the dead slime. Open it. There you go.

I finally found moonwell in Iris lake where she/ he is supposed to be. I have the Pommel to turn quest in, but when I got there nobody was there! Now This quest is put on hold until somebody can tell me WHY! Where is Shael Drynn?

Ive killed almost 25 or so Slimes so far near barrens entrance and have gottin the box like 7 times...but everytime its not in there...just wool, broken locks,pratice locks and copper...
Is this happening to anyone else?

Can anyone help me figure out what i might be missing or doin wrong plz :)

box dropped of slime 72/75 south of splinter tree...watch for the steatlh npcs...

oh..it didnt drop (in the usual box like other items..)
it APPEARED as the slime was bout 3/4 dead...

i found mine at 73,70....it was the first slime i killed...it will be in a box that it drops you must open the box seperatley you dont get the box when you loot it.

i was going to the barrens and i killed a rotteing slime just for fun and a box was where the rotting slime was and i opened it and i got a quest item and this was a rotting slime rite next to the barrens gate

If ur looking for the Iron Pommel; just kill some of those slime things (around tloc 76,76), they have a chance to drop a chest, and the Pommel is in that chest.

An easy way to find these slimes is to first find the Warsong Labor Camp (Just off the road to the Barrens) and go through (Or around it) untill you come across the Dor'Danil Barrow Den. Kill the slimes there and, before long, a box will drop (WARNING: The box does NOT appear in the loot window, it drops on the ground and ANYONE can take it!)

The Iron Pommel is found inside a box that drops off Rotting Slimes at 70,75. It actually appears on the ground next to the corpse of the slime...it is not something that you loot off the slime. Every time that I have completed this quest it has dropped off the first slime I kill at 70,75. That is just a few yards east of the spawn point of the Horde NPC Torek and his four Splintertree raiders. If you are traveling on the road south toward the Barrens, and you pass the path leading west to Silverwing Outpost, watch the east side of the road. When you see a break in the hill on that side of the road, turn east and start killing slimes. This quest is very easy.

I had two Rotting Slimes drop lock boxes right next to each other at 73,73. Only the first one contained the Iron Pommel, of course, and I'd killed closed to a dozen before getting here for the successful kill.

This quest is not much of a challenge the slimes are only lvl 21 22 which is daft considering I got this quest at lvl 27. As a druid I went cat form and stealthed into the den there are some lvl 27 baddies on the right hand side found the slimes at 73 72. The second slime I killed dropped a box and inside was the pommel! Stealthed back and I was away no problems. Once again the co ordinates provided were spot on so thanks for those. Before i got my add ons I used too spend ages running around looking for places I mean lets face it the directions you get off the quest givers aren't always very presice. I reccomend everyone too get Titan Panel add on or simular makes life so much easier.

I've run several toons through this quest and the slime you're looking for can always be found at 69.79, always trying to climb the same tree. HTH.

The pommel CAN drop off slimes that are not in Dor'Danil. I was headed that way because alot of people said they got theirs around there and it dropped off the first slime I killed. Level 20...very nice. ^_^

This was super easy.. found the slimes just off the road - they were only lvl 20's, so my lvl 26 Druid creamed them in like 2 hits. 2nd slime dropped the box.

As you travel East from Astranaar, you will come to a fork in the road with a sign pointing to The Barrens.

Take this road south. On the right (west) side you will see Skywing Outpost (Alliance).

At this point, stray from the road, going off to the left (EAST) and start killing the brown slimes (level 21-22). Shouldn't take more than five kills.

If you get to the big Horde encampment, you have gone too far south.

i killed lik 50 slimes looking 4 this then the chest spawned in front of the den afta i kild a slime, so u guys that got it on first or second... i just dont know. it also took me 12 kills to get the wooden rod from the walking trees, so... i dont know. im just unlucky maybe?

The slimes you need to kill are just north east of Fallen Sky Lake. A chest will spawn when you kill one and inside is the pommel you need. Mine spawned on the 5th kill. Super easy.

Oh and 2300 xp, plus 100 rep with Darnassus at lvl 33.

if you done get quick not to worry you still getting exp doin it....
got mine off slime near lake could say first mob but had to kill add first.
road is right if you commin from barrans left if ashenvale, just look for wood cutters head in from there...

Follow road leading to the Barrons, there is a samll encampment of Splintertree Raiders to the left, go east past them. I got it as random drop from a slim creature. Good Hunting.

First Rotting slime lvl20, I killed dropped the box, I was at POS 68.77. I could have gotten lucky, but when i passed this path before i got a box too, but I didn't have the quest. Could just be coincidence, but thought I would let everyone know.

Rotting Slime are creatures that roam alone the hills that boarders the Barrens. When you take the road south to the Barrens, you will see an Ocr encampment with peons chopping trees on your left (east). Direstly south of the encampment on the hills are Rotting Slimes. They drop a chest every time which contains the quest item.

I've been looking for a long time and none of the slimes have dropped it, I've looked for the coordinates and found them and none of the slimes in those places dropped the pommel.

The moonwell you were asking about is the one you got the quest from Shael'dryn. It is at 53, 46. The slimes are around 70,75. I'm just now killing these. I was under the impression that I was going to wait around for the ones at Fallen Sky Lake or w/e and that was a mistake! There are TONS here.
By the way I got it on about the 4th or 5th slime ~ a box you just click to open EASY EASY ~ now off to do the diseases!

For people like me, the chest is not a loot item off a slimy goo thing. After the kill the chest pops on the ground. Then you have to open it. Goo's are at 70,75

to go the location make a macro with this

LOL...I found the Iron Pommel in a chest dropped by a slime and was like "What's this?" until I took it and the quest tracker popped up. :) The slime was just in my way as I was on the way to the Den. Hadn't paid much attention to the journal so I was quite surprised.

They dont actually "drop" the chest when you loot their corpse, it will be on the ground next to their corpse.

Open it and the Iron Pommel will be on the ground.

I found the chest (with the rod) at coordinates 54.35 in a glade west of the borders near Felwood. Just as the quest says.
The key for the chest I got dropped by the second treant I killed.

Found the chest on the 5th or 6th slime I killed at the location already posted. The quest was listed at a lvl far above what lvl it actually takes to kill the slimes. They were green when I killed them at lvl 27.

Pay attention to the journal that you're given at the beginning of this whole quest on this one, people. In it, it says that a slime creature would probably have swallowed the chest with the final piece in it (which it did).
Traveling south down the road, when you get to the fork with the orcs, the slime creatures will be moving around the hills close by on either corner. If you stand at the fork, you should be able to see them.
The pain about this one is that the slimes take FOREVER here to regenerate. I was in a group with one player. Since she had the loot setting on uncommon when finding/opening the chest and NOT TELLING ME, we had to wait around for the thing to appear again, roughly 15 minutes.
I don't know if the cloth that's also in the chest is used for anything in particular.

Dor Danil Barren is the name of the section of Ashenvale that they are in (the directions given are accurate).

They won't dropt the chest everytime but it was just a few kills for me before I got one. On a PvP server, this area is pretty scary to go to at these levels. The NPC night elf rogues there also like to pop in and out of stealth so the sound effect makes you wonder if some player enemy is nearby.

The tips here are pretty helpful, the location of my particular slime was 68,77. What surprised me was the level of the slime that I killed that spawned the chest with the quest piece---He was only level 21. I'm certainly not complaining about the mob level for a quest that's listed at level 28, it just surprised me.

Be aware that graphics has changed since 2005! Turn down your settings to 1 when doing quests like these, otherwise you might actually not see the damned thing your supposed to pick up. ;)

It's not a drop!

After you kill a slime, look with your eyes at its corpse. There should be a chest there which you open.

Don't be like me and spend an hour killing these expect it to drop the pommel like regular loot.

After you get your bar consider going on into barrens to get the Ratchet and Booty Bay flight points. There are horde guards at the rampart at the border but just move to the left you'll see a downed fence and then a fairly clear run to Ratchet. Pick up the flight point then take the boat to Booty Bay and pick up the flight point there and hearth back.

note for 19 twinks getting glacial stone -- have a higher level (not even in the same party as you) kill these and then you can loot the chest. easier than dying and running in spirit form to get the drops without xp. there are a couple of other quests like beetle clasps & arctic buckler that also start at lvl 18 so you need to minimize your xp gain any way that you can.

now you have to kill slimes lvl 22

The final piece of the rod was given to the druids of Dor'danil for safekeeping. I have no idea where they hid it. I'm sorry I can't help you more than that.

All I can tell you is to follow the road that leads towards the Barrens. The druids took shelter to the east of that road, but they won't be of much help to you: they were killed recently... it's something I don't like to think about much.

When you find the final piece, bring it to me and I will help you reconstruct the rod.
