From Classic Expirience : ALL The comments here are wrong the "Acidic Venom Sac" does NOT drop from the darkfang spiders as the questie addon says, small, big medium far near or w/eu want , on a hill or down a hole , they do NOT drop it i killed about 80 of them NO dice , not 1 drop.

Then i went for the quest to get the spider UNpopped eyes north east on the map from the Darkmist Spiders , and VOILA 1 on 3 spider kills drop it, and they are also much easier to kill, so dont go strain ur self all around the map looking for lvl 40 giant darkfang spiders cause it wont give u 1 sac , just do near the cave northeast of the camp , were the Darkmist Spiders are.....

The drop rate was terrible. It took me about an hour to get what I needed.

Definately Get them off of Dark Fang Venomspitters. They are around the west side of the inlet of water allong the mountain range. Drop rate is far superior to the rest and much more abundant and easier to find. Just stick to the mountain side near the inlet of water. Start around 45,33 and head south along that hilly area staying at the top dont fall down near the waters edge. Took no more than 12 minutes.

The Darkfang Lurkers - stealthy spiders - drop the venom sacs, too.

the drop rate isnt terrible i kill like 15 spider to get the 6 venom sac

Well, I got them by travelling around just East and South or Brackenwall.

In just under 80 kills of Darkfang spiders I got the 6 drops.

Here's how it went for me:

Lurker: 0%
Everything else: 100%

So leave the stealthy spiders alone and kill the ones you can see. But I think Lurkers are the most common.

Took me around 60 kills to get 3 of em.
Then I went further south and found some nice Giant Darkfang Spiders. Got the rest 3 drops of em in 4 kills.
I felt stupid.

There are may obove the stonemaul ruins. Killed about 9 spiders to get the 6 questitems. Done as a hunter with radar in about 3-4 minutes :)

walk directly towards the top edge of dustwallow
(41,15) you will find a crap load of spiders by the foot of the montain. They have fast respawns as well

Iscandium is correct. Around 41,15 is a very good area. I got all 6 drops in less than 30 minutes.

Took me a while fot 2 of them on my first 2 kills .. then i killed about 20-25 more and got the rest. can be found at the 39.23.

So far, I've killed about 20 spiders and not one venom sack has dropped. Talk about a low drop rate... I've gotten more thick spider silk than quest items. They're realy milking these spiders.

Additionally, they're much tougher than other similar mobs - usually I can handle a couple at a time without too much trouble (as a druid), but these guys really tax my abilities.

I got 5 in a row from the level 39 Creepers just north of Lost Point in the Quagmire. There's level 38 venomspitters and level 38 creepers there too, but I only got 1 sac from the 5 or 6 level 38's I killed (the level 38 that dropped it was a spitter - I only got 1 level 38 creeper). So maybe the level has something to do with it?

dunno about anyone else, but these took me forever to get. However, I also did this at level 35, so it was a little harder than it was probably supposed to be haha ^^

very annoying due to the low drop rate. Farmer a little island around 43,43 and it seemed the venomspitters had the drop

There is a mountain range directly across the bay west of Theramore isle; that is on the western bank of the bay there is a mountain range. This range borders the water so dont fall in or it ca be a hassle. Thing is there is a rather high concentration of Giant Darkfang Spiders and these fellows drop the goo also, not to mention white spider meet and a number of silks.

I would just like to say that i did with a friend lvl 33and me 34 it was tuff but found out its the invisi ones that drop better if they are lower but hard to find alot so in the end drop rate was like 80% or more but VERY tedious ..... no specific place really just ran around and found them that way !

Full Reethe Questline Info

It's a long story following Rethe's mystery on both alliance and horde side. I will tell the alliance side of things. I can also confirm it works in classic, you just need to get the required prequests. Questie will show the badge on the map, even if you didn't complete the prequests yet.

Alliance starts with James Hyal and the followup James Hyal OR They Call Him Smiling Jim (you can do only one of the prerequisites)

Once you got these prerequisites you will be able to loot the Blackened Iron Shield and Reethe's Badge as well as inspect Hoofprints in the burned down Inn in Dustwallow Marsh at 29 47.

The badge is really small sitting on a plank in the middle of the inn, the shield hangs on the chimney, the hoofprints are in front of the house.

These items start 3 quest:

The Black Shield
Suspicious Hoofprints

You are then send around 2 more times to other NPCs with the shield:

And the badge continues to the following questline:

Daelin's Men
The Deserters

There is no follow-up to this quest, though you do get a bit more from the Horde's perspective if you come back and do their side of the chain. The conclusion to the mystery was not added into the game until Patch 2.3, thus we won't be seeing it in Classic. That patch addressed many of the abrupt endings to quest chains in Dustwallow Marsh.

Questioning Reethe

After handing in Reethe's Badge you get an escort quest to help an ogre go talk to him.
However before you can get anything out of him some alliance show up and kill him for treason.
After all three of them has been completed horde gets a quest to go talk to the smith of the Blackened Iron Shield in Thunderbluff.
Unfortunatly the smith cant possibly remember for whom he made the Blackened Iron Shield so the quest ends there.

No question that this is just a long grind. I was killing the 40/41 spiders along the hilly coast across from Theramore and the drop rate was about 12-15%. The biggest problem was the stupid terrain; one wrong step and you'd fall into a hole or into the water, with no way to get back up the hills. Better to stay on the shore side of the hills and pull the spiders down if you can. They dropped a bunch of white spider meat and what I thought was a large number of greens (4 in about 54 kills). Found a rare level 41 flying serpent named Hayoc at 56.25, 66.93 and he dropped a green as well. Not all bad.

Do not be mislead by questing addons to go for anything other than Darkfang spiders, the others do not drop it

I killed every type of spider in the zone, the only one that dropped for me was Darkmist Spider

The Darkmist spiders at 36, 31 have a high drop rate. It's the smaller green looking spiders and not those big red spiders.

Have killed around 30 and got ONE sac. Drop and move on.

For SoD players: Since these comments are confusing with TBC vs. Vanilla and how the drop rate changed on these between then some of the comments are confusing. For those in SoD these dropped best off the Darkfang Spiders and Darkfang Lurkers in the north. Lurkers are stealthed. Here is your spam macro

I got the best return from the Darkmist Lurkers and Venomspitters in the area surrounding Northpoint Tower (tower is at 46,25). Horrendous droprate though

Hmmm, there's writing right here on the rim of the shield, but it's hard to read from all the burned stuff.

I need acid to make it clear. Venom from the Darkfang spiders in the marsh would do good. Get me some of their sacs and I can clean this up.
