THe drop rate on the large fragment is bad. I had to run sfk multiple times to get it to drop since there are only so many darksouls.

For those people who don't read quests, remember, you have to run two dungeons. Blackfathom Deeps for the 3 smaller fragments and Shadowfang Keep for the large fragment.

The quest giver is friendly to both alliance and horde, so you can get this quest for both factions from him. Got it on my undead lock, but never did it because in my opinion the rewards aren't worth the time.

The Three small shards in Black Fathom Deeps:

Ashenvale coordinates 14:15
Follow the cave all the way back to the instance, then you will have to get to the last stage right before you kill the nasty hydra boss. Special note: dont click on the alter if you decide to go ahead and kill the hydra for drops.... it will kill you and send you back outside the instance to the beginning where you drop down to go into the caves.

The Large Shard in Silverpine:

Silverpine coordinates 45:68
Entering instance, turn right, free the prisoner and enter the courtyard. The large shard should drop from a haunted survivor or one of the shadowfangs that are near the ramp area.

Since I play alliance, and it was difficult for me to find silverpine to begin with... from Iron forge, go north into the wetlands, from there, into arathi to south shore. from south shore, go north towards hillbrad and into silverpine... 90% of the mobs along this quest are elite. bring a party, or go at a higher level (I completed this at level 33, when it was green)

For those of us without Cosmos, the quest giver and who you turn the fragments into is North East of Camp T, not just East =p

Just went thru this last night - Major suggestion: goto this link and print out a map of the BFD instance, I would have been lost without it. (keep this link for maps to most everything)

Also as long as you are going, gather all the quests for BFD up to this level. (for the newbie I searched https://www.wowhead.com/classic
for these.) Most come from Darnassus in Teldrassil. The map from above will show the location of all these quest items (but the Orb pieces). As someone said above, they drop from the Alycoltes way in the back just before the main guy Kelris.

The one thing noone told was in wich direction the quest-ender is located.
It's just east over the road from CT and up a small notch when you just crossed the road. The "map" on this quest here on thott gives a nice overview. It's a camp with a small tent with some alliance folks in it, don't worry, they don't bite...what bite's though is the patrolling 4-5 alliance mobs that may be around so keep an eye out :).

This is for those who have Cosmos' Atlas.

Enter the instance and immediately turn right. Work your way around to point 1 on the atlas, where "Deathstalker Adamant" and "Sorcerer Ashcrombe Rethilgore". Release the prisoner and he'll open the door to the courtyard.

None of the mobs in the couryard drop the Large Soran'ruk Fragment. Only the Shadowfang Darksouls do. So work your way through the courtyard and up a ramp that curves to the left leading to point 2 on the atlas where Razorclaw the Butcher is.

My fragment dropped with the first Shadowfang Darksoul I killed.

Okay for all of us too lazy to look up the Succubus quest line again to find Doan Karhan, which might I add includes myself, his cords are 49,57

Frist off, you can't agro the guy next to the quest giver, i've passed right over him and he never attacked me.

Secound, the reward staff is awfull, considering a cresent staff, or emberstone staff are better, the only reason to do this is for exp, also, the orb sells for around 40s at merchants.

Next, I got all of my shards off of wizards in the BFD, however, it's close to the last part of the instance.

Since patch 1.11 the orb no longer shares a cooldown with healthstones. So now you can use both in a battle. It is pretty sweet. When you get a difficult fight with an add or something just use both and it is MUCH easier.

The large fragment in SFK seems to be a random drop. For me it dropped of of a Shadowfang Darksoul in the building just after the ramp coming from the courtyard.

While your in Blackfathom Deeps getting the fragments, don't miss out on a great quest in there that gets you a WONDERFUL wand. Look it up, The Gravestone Scepter

This one is not easy, esp. if you're Alliance. Why? Hard to get groups in these dungeons. And you need groups (unless the quest has gone gray to you).

I did the bfd part 20 lvls ago and had this quest (and those items) on me for ages. Finally went over to SFK last night just to finish this off (at lvl 44). Sorry, I forogt what dropped the quest items in bfd - I think it was the humanoids back in the maze/temple area. Acolytes or something.

In SFK you take the small door to the right after you enter and fight your way to the jail cells. Just keep going and you'll find it. Free the wizard, and he'll open the door to the courtyard for you.

There you clear until you can cross, ahead and to your right, to the ramp up.

Fight up the ramp, and you enter a series of rooms. Here there are Shadowfang Darksouls. These drop the large soran fragment you need, only my first time through - it never dropped.

I had to exit, group w/ someone, de-group (this reset the instanc) - and fight my way back to the darksouls again. Second time it dropped.

The werewolves w/ "moon" in their name (in the courtyard) - when their hands glow green - are about to gain an 'invulnerability to magic' effect. It lasts 5 to 10 seconds, then fades. Even if you land dots before this, the dots don't harm them when this is up. If you pull w/ shadowbolts and can take the punishment, they are not immune while they charge u. U can get 3 shadowbolts into them (at least) if you pull w/ one and shoot as they close and start hitting you.

The darksouls are immune to shadow damage. You have to immolate them and either melee or use a non-shadow wand on them.

is located in Ashenvale which is easily reached by boat in the Wetlands.
Shadowfang Keep;
is in Silverpine Forest.

The ones who drop the fragments are the Twilight Acolytes. None of the other Twilight guys dropped them for me, only the Acolytes, and those were gnomes and dwarves, not just gnomes. YOu have to go pretty much all the way to the end of the instance to get to them, they're in a big open room with Baron Aqueas or whatever his name is. There are plenty of Acolytes there, and they drop them 100%.

Hmm, I followed the directions to the Alcoyles posted by verga, but could not find them unless they were way further down South of the name turtle. I sent my eye out and still did not find them. Could some please give detailed directions how to get to them?

This "additional note" sucks. A better one would be that he's located just east of Camp Taurajo. I just happened to pick this quest up at some point and decided, what the hell, I'll do it...when I finally got it done I couldn't find him again, and this page was no help. Lucky I had an addon that had recorded his loc

I wouldn't say this quest is worth it, regardless the level you get around to doing it: I won a roll for a MUCH better staff than I was going for with this quest, while fighting in BFD for this quest

Doan is guarded by a ? human. It was suggested that he might be led away somehow. Does anyone know anything about this? I can't figure out any other way then to send voidwalker to attack him, while I try to get the quest before I die. Doubtful this will actually work.

I went there as a level 28 Tauran Warrior, the Seer didn't aggro on me, even when I stood in front of him and started dancing with him. I couldn't talk or get the quest either though.

What exactly do we kill in Shadowfang Keep for that fragment? i went all the way to the end and killed the mage at the end and no fragment. a party memeber got a cool robe from that mage. can anyone tell me what or who has that fragment in Shadowfang Keep?

Just got the large fragment in SFK. Kinda expected it to be at the end with the wizard but nope. Didn't drop on the entire first run and dropped off a random mob partway through the second time. I hope this helps; I didn't see a straight answer to this question in this thread.

At Level 20, you can pick up quest The Orb of Soran'ruk from Doan Karhan. Doan is a human NPC standing at a tent just Northeast of Camp Taurajo in The Barrens.

1. The Orb of Soran'ruk
-loot 3 Soran'ruk Fragment from Twilight Acolyte, they can be found in BFD in a champer leading up to Twilight Lord Kelris OR outside of BFD in Zoram'gar Strand standing at the temple just outside the water entrance.
-loot 1 Large Soran'ruk Fragment from Shadowfang Darksoul in Shadowfang Keep, they are in the courtyard and in a hallway leading up to final boss.
*Must have quest in order to loot these items.

Return to Doan Karhan, turn in The Orb of Soran'ruk, pick up...

2. Rumors Abound
-Loot the Orb of Des at the top of the Tower of Ilgalar in Redridge Mountains.
-Loot the Bough of Altek at the top of the Tower of Althalaxx in Darkshore.
*Both towers are filled with enemies level 28-30.
*Both items sit on a table and can be looted without killing any mobs (if you can get to the rune without pulling aggro)
*Both items can be looted before picking up the quest.

Return to Doan Karhan, turn in Rumors Abound and pick up...

3. The Conjuring
-loot 10 Blood of the Legion from demons in Felfire Hill in Southeast Ashenvale.
*will drop off of Mannoroc Lasher, Felguard, Legion Hound, and Searing Infernal.
-Follow pathway south in to canyon in Felfire Hill.
-When you see the Monument to Grommash Hellscream, look north and take the pathway heading West up the hill.
-Use the Obelisk near a purple summoning portal in the Northwest corner of this area to turn in The Conjuring.
-You will contend with 4 waves of level 25 mobs. The fourth wave will be a lone Searing Infernal.
-You must be casting Drain Soul on the Infernal while standing within the purple rune on the floor when the Searing Infernal is defeated.
-A Mysterious Traveler will appear and you will receive quest Mysterious Traveler.

Return to Doan Karhan, turn in Mysterious Traveler and receive Rune of Metamorphosis.

When demons of the Legion fall out of favor, their spirits are imprisoned within orbs and distributed to their mages and warlocks.

Many were carried by their servants in Azeroth. Even fragmented, they still possess the powers of the demons trapped inside.

The orb of Soran'ruk was broken into two pieces, one was further broken to be used by the acolytes of the Twilight's Hammer in Blackfathom Deeps. The other, larger piece, was possessed by a wizard in Shadowfang Keep. Find them and I can reform it.
