Moldy Tome (27,72):
Multiple locations but the above is where I found mine, well, around there.
Not hard at all, send in the void to aggro all of them, quickly swim/run over to the book, grab it, use sacrifice and run away. If you die, rez at tarren mill, and deal with sickness ;D
Don't try and pull one at a time, it'll just piss off the other ones.

Tattered Manuscript:
As soon as you enter the cave, it's left, right, left, or right.
I found mine in the second left.

--Tattered Manuscript--
You may want to start with this one since its a little closer to where you pick the quest up. The manuscript is being held smack dab in the middle of a murloc camp. The manuscript looks like a little nondescript book just laying in the sand among the other debris of the camp. The manuscript spawns at a random camp so no definite coordinates can be given but the camps are located southwest of the human town of Southshore and start at 46, 68. There are quite a few murlocs so you might want to get some friends to help you slaughter the murlocs and grab the manuscript but this quest is soloable. One tactic that Ive had luck with is running out to the hilly area behind each murloc camp and using the Eye of Kilrogg to scout out the camp. Once Ive located the manuscript, Ill clear the area of any murlocs leading up to the camp, send in the Voidwalker to gather aggro, grab the manuscript then run away, sacrificing the VW if neccesary. This technique can also be used on the ocean side of the camps if you prefer however your escape will be hindered by murlocs and the fact that you will be swimming rather than running.

--Moldy Tome--
The Moldy Tome is located within the cave Splinterhoof Hold located in Thousand Needles coordinates 44, 37. After entering the cave, branch right as soon as you're able. Follow this path past the waterfall until you see a small chest labeled "Damaged Chest". This contains the tome which you seek. The centaurs in the cave are slightly stronger than the ones outside. Centaurs flee when their health is low so keep Curse of Recklessness handy; you don't want a centaur running off and aggroing the whole cave. Also, be wary of the Lightning Cloud that the Stormers cast.

I found the Moldy Tome at (27,72), but it might be random since there are little groups of huts all along the shore in Hillsbrad.

The Tattered Manuscript was in the cave at Splithoof crag. I took a right at the fork, and once I got to the waterfall, I crossed it and took a left into a smaller room and the chest was there. There was only a level 28 Galak nearby so getting it was relatively easy.

this was a looong quest but worth it. if you do things right you can fight 3 to 4 murlocs at a time for the part of the quest in hillsbrad. there are usually 6 to 8 murlocs at each set of huts. keep your head, and you'll get it taken care of.
the part in thousand needles was a cake walk compared to hillsbrad, like they say loop around to the right. the centaurs are easy to deal with

Here's how i got the tome at the Hillsbrad:

Location : 27,72

1. Find a good spot to enter the water and swim untill you are near the spot.

2. Use a soulstone and summon Voidwalker.

3. Kill all the mobs near the tome that are alone. ONLY the ones that are alone...this should be easy, the tough part is to kill the mobs that are close to each other. Search also underwater.

Send in the voidwalker first and use suffering to attract their attention, then grab the book while the're beating on your pet. Use sacrifice if necessary to get away.

This is solo material. Use the VW for the moldy tome and go for succubus for the tattered manuscript. I was in and out of that cave in 10 minutes with her.

It is in the cave in a battered chest. Go into the cave, make a right when you come to the fork. Then when you get to the stream go across it and make a left. I found it right there. Becareful going back out they respawn behind you. I had no problem doing this quest with my succubus at level 30.

At 44,37 in the cave entrance. Stay to the right. When you get to the point where the path only goes left check behind the rock in the corner, where the water comes out of the wall, for a chest. Then further down the path take a left and there should be a box on the ground to your right. You can only click it if you have the quest.

Due south of the azurelode mine on the shore, you'll see the shore is in a shape like below, I marked an X at the proper hut

Approach from the ocean, and get on shore from wherever you feel comfortable... what took me the longest to find on this quest was that I was looking for a chest, or some large object, but what you want is a thin, grayish blue book RIGHT at the water's edge on the ground in front of the hut. Pick off the murlocs (and having one other party member helps a LOT) one at a time and then go open the book.

Found the damaged chest at 43,32. At 44,37 was a regular solid chest. The one with the tome was in a nook after still taking the right path.

Ive seen alot of talk about the book, but only 1 post mentioning where to find tattered manuscript.

it is in the same cave as the sacred flame quest, STRONGHOOF HOLD, NOT the yeti cave in hillsbrad, which seems to have same co-ords.

to find it, follow the RIGHT path, along ntil you come to you have to turn left. in that small junction u can go 3-4 ways. there is a little chest there, abattered chest, THIS is where the tattered manuscript is. i hope you have good eyes because it's fairly blended in with background. it sits behind a rock, but you should see it from where you enter the section its in.

ya i tried for about an hour to get it be attacking by land. it didnt work. You can kill the side easily, then you go for the main part of the village and they all aggro, had three my best time, seven the worst. ya im gunna try going in from the sea this time.

I also managed to solo this with my 30 lock, I just made sure not to attack any murlocks, took a few seconds to make sure my VW had attacked them all at least once, and then simply grabbed the book and ran, were it not for running into a lvl 34 night elf priest, I would have made it out alive =/
Oh there were about 4 murlocs in the camp when I did it :p

With lots of patience, this quest can be completed pretty easily.

For Alliance, set your Hearthstone for either IF or SW before you leave. I went to the Hillsbrad Foothills to get the Moldy Tome. I stayed on the ridge to the southwest of Southshore and headed west (instead of fighting through murlocs on the coast.) There are spiders and bears that are level 24-25 there but I was able to walk through them without having to fight.

As soon as the ridge went down to the beach, I started picking off the murlocs one by one, and headed back east. The camp you need is the first one you come to. I picked off a few murlocs that wandered out of the camp, and then targeted a murloc in the camp, and sent the voidwalker in to attack. I waited a few seconds to make sure all the murlocs were attacking him, and then ran in and got the tome. It is a bluish/grey book lying near the water. My voidwalker died, and I was attacked as I ran away, but was able to get far enough away so that the murlocs ran back to camp. Then I hearthstoned back to IF and flew to Booty Bay and took the boat to Rachet in the Barrens.

I followed the road south and entered Thousand Needles. At the lift, I sent the voidwalker in to attack, and then I ran onto the lift. I tried heading left and go down the trough like one person posted, but came across too many bad guys, esp. ones in stealth. So I took the road to the south and then to the east, and then headed back north once I got to the Freewind Post.

The centaus are lower levels (24-28) but some are casters who can heal themselves, so make sure and have potions/bandages. I just slowly made my way north into camp by picking off the centaurs one by one. Once inside the cavern I followed other posters advice and headed to the right. Once I accidently got two on me, but feared one. As I headed right, I went across the stream of water, and I could see the chest lying on the ground against the wall in the cavern in front of me. Once I opened it and got the manuscript, I used the Hearthstone to go back to IF and turn in the quest.

So far it's been a lot of running around but I've enjoyed going to new areas, and look forward to seeing if the felhunter is worth all the work!

Found the Tattered Manuscript in Splithoof Hold in thousand needles. It is in a damaged chest along the wall. It's kind of easy to miss so keep your eyes peeled. Also found the moldy tome along the beach south of Southshore in Hillsbrad. It's in a small box/crate, also easy to miss, near on of the huts alont the beach. Use the void in both places, shouldn't be too hard of a quest.

i recommend doing the murlocs first and depending on your lvl, maybe find a friend if you can't handle multple enemies.

make your way to (found it convenient to set my hearth to Org) if your patient enough, just swim around the mobs until your directly south of 27,72 murloc hut. they range lvl 28 to 30 and you have to fight 2 at a time. fight the mobs surrounding that hut and grab the item. its looks like a book (tomb) on the ground lying to the left of the solid chest.

head out to thousand needles and head to the cave against the north wall at 44,37. when you get inside hug the right wall and fight until you come to a small waterfall and a solid chest. standing slightly left of the chest look across the stream and you'll see the cave goes deeper. head down that cave in that direction avoiding the path to the right and you will see the chest up against the wall. its small and brown. grab them and sac your voidwalker if you dont feel up to fighting your way back out. the mobs there are lvl 25 and drop aggro pretty easy.

Alright let me start off by listing the locations:

Coordinates:

Hillsbrad: 27,72
1k Needles: 44,33

W/o Coords:

Hillsbrad: South of the azurelode mine, by the water AND murlocs :P

1k Needles: Just north of freewind post, in the huge kolkar camp, turn left at the entrance and run up to the cave

Advice: Just run along the coast in hillsbrad...when you finally get to the right camp, have your voidwalker run in and aggro everything. grab the book and then sacrifice him, swim out.....

In 1k needles just fight your way to the cave, take a right turn and foloow the path, go across a tiny river in the cave....damaged chest will be on your left.

NOTE: I had my hearthstone set to 1k needles, so after hillsbrad I just hearthed, very easy to do using voidwalker and sacrifice

Well i had some trouble finding the Moldy Tome... i got a 60 lock to help me with the tatterd manuscript ;-}! but anyway, what u wana do is go to the mine right, then u wana go to the East 3 murlock bases down and itll be just laying on the floor... preety easy

Ok guys, I was Lucky to set the coords on my map before they get deleted, I just used a deviate and well, I'm wasting it cause i'm typing in here :P

Anyway, the quest will ask you to go to Hillsbrad, coords 29,73 (about that area, the exact coords are deleted) there's a small book on the ground by the shore, guarded by aroun 4 murlocs which can be pulled per 2 if you're careful. don't try to send the void and picking it up, it won't work, just kill 2 with careful pulls and grab your look.

The second part is in 1k needles, you have to enter a cave guarded by the centaurs, the levels in there are 27-29 and they all are single pull, so don't be afraid to go alone, at exactely 44,33 there's a "damaged chest" open it and get your second item for the quest. If you're not too good with coords, just take the first right and clear all the way, the design of that cave is teh same one in Durotar, so just go the same way.

well, that's what I did so far, time to turn in the quest.

The first part of the tome is in the centaur cave in 100 needles.Its not a drop,but located in a small chest inside Splithoof hold, the cave in the Galak centaur camp closest to Freewind Post (NOT the camp with the panther in the cage).
Go inside, at first intersection turn right and follow the path avoiding the Galak windchasers near the waterfall.You should eventually come to a ledge above them,the chest is somewhere there.If you got to the Galak Flameguards,youre in the wrong place.
The second part is in hillsbrad.at the bridge on the road leading south into Arathi highlands jump in the water and swim till you reach the sea.You should see a bunch of nagas there.Turn south or right,and you get to a long beach cramped with murlocks.The tome is near some huts RIGHT BY THE WATER.At least a friend is reccomended since the mobs are packed real tight and spawn fast.

I have gained an entire level and then some of xp killing murlocs looking for this tome. I have cleared every camp of the nasty things moving west from SS. I am going to DL Cosmos or Titan and try to find the darn thing. I'll be level 35 before I get my Puppy and I started as soon as I hit 30!

As you enter the Centaur cave in splithoof crag ("Splithoof Hold") you will come across a four way intersection; one path from which you came, and three others. To get to the manuscript, turn right as you enter the intersection. There should be a pool in the room you enter. Past that room, you should see the box very quickly. Use Eye of Kilrogg to scout out the path before you choose, to be sure you've got it right.

This quest was a serious pain to do. Well, the part by southshore anyway. I kept getting killed by mobs and when I read to put the void on aggro and was getting it, I got ganked by a human lock who was camping in the water <_<

The tome is there. As you look at the map, there is a coastal mountain range running from Azurelode mine to Southshore. There is a gap near the middle. I found my tome on the ground, water side in the southern most part of the western half. I was able to get the interact cursor on it from outside the camp.

I solo'd this on a suicide pet run. Sent in pet, it took aggro long enough for me to grab and haul ass. I still died but I got it. :)

I failed to kill the Fellhunter after the first summoning. As a result of being told to abandon the quest I did so and I destroyed the Mouldy Tome. Just for your info I can initiate the summoning, the circle gets going but when I get asked to read the tome - I cant as it is not in my items any more. I have ticketed the Games masters till I am blue in the face and they say the same abandon quest spiel. I have found out that only the last entry to your individual quest counter is reversed - and that did not relate to the tome in my case. They have to re-instate it as I have revisited where it spawns 27,72 and I can see it but cant pick it up - it’s locked off. I went back with a team, they cannot share the quest with me, nor can they trade it as they loose the tome themselves. What can I do? my character name is Mortgate and I am on Aeirie Peak server.

Just did this at lvl 30, only died once, and that was my fault for not paying attention. I got killed by a Southshore guard I didn't see. Other than that, xp is decent, and I have my Felhunter. Only bad thing I can say is too much running.

Just a note to anyone that reads the other posts here. A lot of them have stated that Splithoof Hold in Thousand Needles is NE of Freewind Post. In actual fact it's ever so slightly NW, at 44,37 for the cave entrance.

Please at least try to get your east/west and right/left the right way round if you are going to post directions.

Also, for the follow up to this quest, the Dragonmaw Orcs can be found simply by following the road south from Thandol Span into the Wetlands and at the T-junction leave the road and continue south into the hills, past the GY. The Bonewarders for the quest are all in that area.

Getting the moldy tome was very simple for me. Here's how you can do this without even being hit once.

First I sent my VW right into the middle of the murlock gang, so he drew all of the attention. I ran up to the book, grabbed it, took a swim speed potion and swam off. Not one murlock came after me at all.

Thats the most simple way to do this without having to fight for hours.

Tattered Manuscript 43,33 in Thousand needles, inside cave. (Tattered Box, small and brown)
Moldy Tome - 27,73 south shore (Booklet cover, surrounded by your favourite water mob, the murloc)

This will send you back to the dude in UC who will then send you to get channeling rods.

Go to wetlands. Walking down from arathi highlands, when you reach wetlands keep walking down the path. You'll hit a T road, visable as paths on your map (Ignore the seemingly first turn, look at your map for an actual path).
Ignoring the T road, keep going down in a straight line, ignoring the paths right and left. You'll walk right into the camp. Kill bone-somthing or other, fogotten their name :P.

Finish this, hand in at ratchet.

I found the tome west of South Shore in Hillsbrad. Along the water on the shore there are camps of Torn Fins, the book is on the ground in one of the camps towards the middle, water side.

I found the manuscript exactly where Socialism described it to be, thanks! I was looking for a larger chest but it is actually a small box.

I too found the tome where mentioned. Facing the shore, to the left you can see Purgation Isle. Traveling from Purgation Isle, it would be the 2nd or 3rd hut village when headed in the direction of Southshore.

When you move your cursor over the book, it will read "Moldy Tome", it's not in a chest or crate, it's a book laying on the ground. There is no doubt you've found it when you move your cursor over it, as the name is exactly what it is in the quest.

The tome it's self is exactly on the cooridnates 27,73 using cosmos. I know this cause I went too close to southshore and died by the hands of the lvl 50 guards. I then decided to check out the scene in ghost,so when i found i stood right on top of it! looked at map,put my curser on my map icon and the cooridnates were exactly 27,73. There were about 6-8 murlocks drew 3 off of left side(facing water) one at a time sent VW to the guys on the right waltzed on in got tome and ran out east ran up hill at first spot i could and was home free. well i guess you'd have to define 'near', then i guess you'd have to re-read the description of the quest to realize it never said it was near southshore...it says it's "on the coast west of Southshore"

Silly me so what do i do? I read the quest description, go to the shore on the western side of southshore, walk west a few hundred yards (i think that's pretty 'near'), and BAM! amazing! it's right where the quest description said it would be "on the coast west of Southshore".

I wanted to post what I think are more clear directions to the Tattered Manuscript:

1. Enter Splithoof Hold.

2. As you enter, you will be presented with 3 tunnels; one to your Left,
Center and Right, Take the RIGHT path.

3. The path is short and in a matter of a few steps you will be entering another room with a SMALL water fall in it which drops into a SMALL pool of water. (DO NOT CONFUSE THIS WITH THE BIG/LARGE WATER FALL DEEPER WITHIN THE THIS ZONE)

4. Continue along the path and JUST PASSED the small water fall is a opening to another tunnel. This will be on your left and is slightly hidden by the small water fall you just passed. It looks as though you are going to run into the wall straight ahead of you, but in fact there will be an opening on your left as noted.

5. Make the left into the opening of the tunnel next to the small water fall.

6. As you continue down this tunnel/path, look to your 10 - 11 O'Clock position and ON THE GROUND is a Reddish colored chest. (Note: The 10 -11 O'Clock position is relative to your making the correct left noted in Step 5. Also the chest sits at the opening to what is yet another tunnel which leads to a ledge which is a dead end.

I completed all of the quest but when I did summoning circle I had to go answer the phone. Now the circle is gone and I can't reopen it. What do I do? I don't want to abandon the quest cause I don't feel like wasting another 3-4 hours trying to finish it again.

i'm lvl 30 and let the vw tank 2, you help kill the one he is tanking then switch over to the other and go all out, sit down have a drink and repeat

The tome is located FAR to the west of Soutshore... Almost where the beach ends.

Look for a small black book on the ground in the 3rd last camp before the beach ends at Silverpine.

Hint: Do the quest in daytime, at night you can hardly see it.

The tome is the dark grey object to my right in the first image. It is a little hard to see in the dark, though I haven't tried this in the daylight, so I don't know if that is any easier.

The Tattered Manuscript is located in the Splithoof Crag camp north east a tad of Freewind Post. Inside the cave at 43,32 you will find a Damaged Chest. Inside there will be the quest item. The centaurs around it are only level 27, grey to me at lvl 35.

Once I knew where to look for the items I needed, I had no problem completing the quests to get my felhunter.

For the Moldy Tome, I scouted the location with EoK to make sure I had the right camp (murlocs TOTALLY ignored the Eye), then sent in the voidwalker to distract them. Ran down, got the book, sacrificed the voidwalker to make a run for it it, and I was done.

Flew out to Freewind Post in TN, went NE, and found the centaur camp. Went in, killing as I went. Never drew more than 2 mobs at a time, and actually skirted several to get to the cave faster by running along the shelf at the base of the cliffs. Tattered Manuscript was in cave at location described. Hearthstoned out.

Later, flew to Hammerfall in the Arathi Highlands. Had a slight bit of difficulty when I got off track thanks to a vague road sign and ended up in the middle of a group of level 36 spiders, but scouted it out in the subsequent death run before resurrecting and then made it to Wetlands with no problem whatsoever. Found the orcs and got the necessary Rods of Channeling after killing 5 Dragonmaw Bonewarders. As with the centaurs, had no problem with multiple draws, even though it looked like I might.

Went back to Ratchet and summoned and defeated the felhunter and I had my spell. Less than 2 hours work, easy. :)

Found the tattered manuscript part of this quest in the cave inside the splithoof crag cave. It was in a chest on the ground near the middle of the cave. I don't know if the location in the cave is random or not.

For those who where undead and did this quest, how did you get past the glare off of the Torn Fins? I can't see worth anything around them.

The moldy tome is at 27.72 in the Hillsbrand Foothills. U must kill some murlocs to get there.

The location is actually south of Az Mine, dont even bother going by Southshore. I solo'd at 32 and wasted a WHOLE buncha VW's at the wrong village before I figured it out. Eye of Kilrog is good, but goes away once one of those darn Murlocs hit it. I personally didn't have much luck with it.
I approached from the water side and killed all the bastards swimming that come out if you come from the land side. As was posted before. VW to tank 2, kill, drink. Lather, rinse, repeat. Peace.

ok i was up all night and was really tired and rushing to finish and i went 2 strahad guy ppl went in made summoning circle then i loooked in my bag 2 right click but im like sh** i must have accidently sold it i walk out 2 the nearest vendor n b 4 i even click on him i remember u cant sell quest items im sooo stupid n e ways i look in my bag n find it of course i was thinking of it as when it was a brown paper n 4 got it was now a book n when i went bak circle is gone n guy will only talk bout other quest he is waiting 4 what do i do where can i go 2 summon my felhunter?

Seriously, this was almost too easy when you have the coordinates. Get Alpha-map, walk down here(picture from Sedesla): .

Then follow the coordinates (27,72) to point out the right camp, go in, agro 1 if possible and take all out. The Tome is quite small and lies on the ground behind a larger box.

This quest was a pain, but I managed it solo. First off you get the quest started as posted. For the tattered tome you need to get to Freewind Post then run NE. You will find the cent camp. The cave is on the other side along the bluff. Once inside you will want to take the right tunnel then straight ahead into a room. chest is hard to see and passed it like 3 times before I saw the gear when I ran past. Second part is the worst. It is on South Shore and if you are like me you are like, where the heck is that. Well head to Under city stand at the front of city then run down and turn left. Once you get to the end of city turn left again. When you hit the water swim out and turn another left. Now swim a bit and I think it is the second camp along the shore, on your left of course. They swim way out and agro easy. Just have your VW with you and you should be fine. Now clear all swimmers, and work your way to shore. Send in VW to a mob back off the shore. Follow him in and click the book and loot. Don't run away at this point because you will only die tired. The GY you will spawn in has a flight path, so take it to city get gear fixed, now fly back to the GY and head south. Once you get into wet lands you will come to a T inthe road. Hang a right and watch out for the level 30 citizen there, unless you don't mind dishonorable kills. down the road just a bit on your left you will see the mobs you want, just work your way up the crevice and into the camp. Only the casters dropped the rods for me and took 5 of them to get my 3 rods. Gated got my book in UC then actually stoned back to xroads. Went to Ratchet and followed the quest formthere. Used VW to kill the Fel. Quite easy with 3 dots and wand to finish. GL all, and set aside about 3-4 hours and have plenty of cash to fix your gear. Did die a few times on the UC side of quest. I'm level 30, and used my voidwalker, but I'm sure the succubus could handle it easily too. I came in from the cliff side, dropped down just slightly east of camp, and pulled two away and killed them. (Was sure to use curse of recklessness.) Pulled the other two, did the same thing. Then pulled a wanderer that goes in and out of the camp just to be safe. Walked in, picked up the book no problem. You can't get back up the cliffs though, so be sure your hearth is ready.

well i did this with another lock so i dont know what its like soloing on this q but i know where to go (i dont have coords so i cant give any) i think you should start with southshour part cos it hardest and may take long and it feels good to get it over with go behind shouthshour and waalk west across the shour it should be with a small murlock village (i cant say what one so use the eye of killrogg it our friend in this situation) when you find it you wil also find lots of murlocks around it (i tryed scaring them away by saying i ate ur dad today he was a fishstick! but i didnt work) you could try pulling um out but youll find that you get more thay you thought anyway when you kill the murlocks and get the book(witch i forgot to mention was a small blue book that is on the ground) head back to terran mill go to the zepplin and head to ogrimmar and take the windrider to thousend needels then walk to splithoof crag then head to a cave called splithoof hold this place if full of centaurs so be careful (if you want to use the eye of kilrogg in this place me and mi m8 diddnt bother cos it a small space and the eye gets kiled easy) anyway go through the ppart of the cave witch has a few small waterfalls go over a bridge then go forward turn left and open a red chest then go out hand in the q in undercity and go to the next part ok go to a place in the wetlands called angerfang encampment and kill boneweavers and shadowweavers to get the channeling rods (i soloed this last part) then go back to rachet and do the last part witch is the binding when you must read the tome on the greater summoning circle and kill the felhound i didnt get any bugs cos i killed the felhound and now i can summon him (hess a little dissapointing cos he doesnt have good armer and attack power he can remove buffs from a target tho and that is useful i still use voidwalker but i hope that some better spells will become avdable for the felhound in the future) anyway enjoy ur felhound

Tattered Manuscript is at 43.4 32.7 in Thousand needles. Cave entrance is a 44.4 36.9. Just keep right at the forks as you go into the cave and it will be in a small chest

Ah! I see that you are a warlock of similar tastes to mine. Indeed, acquiring the Tome of the Cabal is a worthy aspiration. Did you know that it was once held within the walls of Lordaeron? It was vandalized though, almost half its pages removed. Who would commit such a heinous act?

That half is lost, though rumor says that it fell into the hands of the centaur of the Thousand Needles.

The rest of the text was to be transferred to Ironforge, but was lost in transit on the coast west of Southshore.
