First talk to agent stealthed at 3rd tree north of the tower. She's on the west side of the big tree in front of the two little trees. She will have the yellow "?" above her head. She gives you a book with helpful hints, but I didn't use them.

Then pickpocket the Malformed Lev24 Defias guard for the key. He patrols around the tower and is often alone, just wait for opportunity.

Enter tower in stealth mode.
Up one level is a guard stationed in center of pathway. Try to sneak passed her by walking up on the railing to the right (wait for patroling guard to be away).

Even if you alert her, keep going to the right to next landing up. She will follow but you can easily kill her without alerting patrol guard. Stealth your way passed dual patrol on 3rd floor and make your way to top floor.

Circle around to the right, chest is on floor near desk. Sap the boss, the open chest - take book - make a hasty getaway. Or wait for the boss to walk away from the table. Open the box and then restealth. You can jump to first floor and run out - hopefully no guards patrolling out front, or stealth out again.

The poison is easy enough to cure. As directected talk to Doc in cellar of Barracks. Make sure you type "/lay" infront of him.

Leaded vial: Poison vendor in Barracks.

I would like to add that you need to be level 24 to pick pocket the Malformed guard.

This quest is definately soloable at level 20.

First the malformed guy you need to pickpocket. You might have to try a few times if you are level 20 but I can confirm it is doable. Use sprint if he chases you.

Second the tower. Follow the guide above. If the guards are a bit tough, just commit suicide and resurrect at the top of the tower. Next sap the boss and quickly open the box and grab the contents.

I figured I'd write a thorough quest description for alliance rogues .. so here goes!

1) Get the quest "Mathias and the Defias" from "Master Mathias Shaw" at SI:7 in Stormwind City (75,59)

2) Travel to Westfall. Head to the tower in the south east corner. Just north of the tower you'll find Agent Kearnen hidden (68,71). She will give you the quest "Klaven's Tower".

3) Next you'll need to grab the key from the "Malformed Defias Drone" roaming around the tower. As I didnt have distract at the time of doing this (was only lvl 20) I found the only way I could do it was to wait till he turns around down by the campfire near the water. You have a split second to pick pocket him. If you fail, just gouge him, run out of range and try again.

4) Next head to the top of tower. You can do this without aggroing any mobs if you just have a little patience. When you get to the top, sap "Klaven Mortwake", open chest (requires lockpicking - I had 100 in skill) and get out of there fast. After opening the chest you'll have a debuff on you called "Touch of Zanzil" which will be dealth with later on.

5) Head back to SI:7 and speak to "Master Mathias Shaw". He'll direct you to "Doc Mixilpixil" in the basement of SI:7.

6) When you've spoken to "Doc Mixilpixil" he'll send you on a quest called The "Touch of Zanzil" where you need to gather 4 components for a mixture.

7) Get a "Copper Tube" from "Billybub Cogspinner" (55,7) the engineering supplier.

8) Get "Spool of Light Chartreuse Silk Thread" from "The Finest Thread" (39,46). It's a ground spawn next to the counter.

9) Get "Simple Wildflowers" from "Fragrant Flowers" (64,60).

10) Get a leaded vial from "Shady Dealer" at SI:7.

11) You receive "Eau De Mixilpixil". Click it to remove the curse.

Remember, you'll start out with Instant Poison only, to get Crippling Poison learn it from one of the rogue trainers.

I'm no where near max'd in stealth; however, I did this at lvl 20. I did have lockpicking to lvl 100 from the lockboxes in the lake at lakeshire. Make sure when you pickpocket "Spike" you don't have the "touch" poison. Every time I tried him while poisoned, I got caught. Use anti-venom or have a priest or such remove it for you if you get poisoned. I did the chest before the pickpocket - the chest is what poisons you. Good luck.

This guy posted what you needed, but didnt post that you would spend 30 min locating the shops!

i noticed that while stealthed that when i used Ambush on the tower patrols they died instantly.

I'm a 20 rogue and Im going to change my name to" Foolishrogue" did this in reverse and paid the price...a lot of wasted time was the result. But this fool rogue( Thats me!) did nt do it it the proper order!I Instead of pick-pocketing the guy with the punk hairstyle first, I went straight up to the top of the tower and followed the excellent intructions on how to get the journal. Got the journal GOT CURSED! And then went out to get the tower key... np right? WRONG! After getting the 7 day curse tried to pick the guys pocket ...he detected me every time...found out from a very helpful 60 rogue, that the curse affects armour when stealthed...also dont use buffs, apparently these reduce stealth also while giving minimal pro that you dont need. So after numerous attempts to PP this NPC I gave up.. dropped the quest then started over, but had to have a friendly druid rid me of the curse, Another peice of advice though ...dont have someone rid you of the curse at anytime during the quest...it will pass when you finish the quest. If you do you will have to start over!

I soloed this as soon as I reached lvl 20. Died only once.
Just as it says here, be very careful as you are pickpocketing the undead Defias with spikey hair, named Malformed Defias Drone. He is lvl 23 and hits pretty hard. I pickpocketed him as he stopped for a short while behind the tower near the camp fire. You only have a few seconds so watch his route first and position yourself early. He turns around quickly ans starts to walk so he will most probably notice you. However by that time, you should be able to open the pickpocket window and loot the key. Then I ran until he stopped chasing.
I got lucky with the tower since when I went in, a lvl 16 warlock was curious enough to enter the tower as well :-) I was in stealth mode so as the guards were chasing her, I was able to make my was to the top of the tower.
Once there, sap Mathias and pick the lock for the chest.
I got the touch of Zanzil, which increased the stealth detection for the NPC dramatically so all the guards started to pile on me. However I jumped down and sprinted away.
Posions are great to have at lvl 20 so do it as soon as you reach the level.
My lockpicking skills were 91 at the time and the chest looked orange. So I would assume any lockpicking skill below 80-85 would be risky. Make sure you work on your lockpicking before you enter the tower.
I did not seek the cure for touch of zanzil. I logged out and when I came back the next day, it had disappered.
I was also specced for Master of Deception (5/5), Improved Sap (2/2) and Malice (4/5).

Hey, I got the quest back! If you accidently abandon the quest (or have to because someone tried to help by healing you!) you CAN get it back. But you have to get it back from the woman stealthed by the tree. You need to get Klaven's Tower quest back (or whatever it's called)--not Mathias and the Defias. So you dont even need to go far! She's right there near the tower! Good luck!

After you talk to Mathias in Stormwind, travel to westfall. You will then have to travel to the woods which is kind of east on the bridge to Duskwood. Then you would have to go stealth and Agent Kearnen will pop down from a tree stealthed. After that she will give you the quest requiring the key and the journal. Then you would go to the tower and wait for the one drone to come, and you will pickpocket it. If he attks you, just sprint and run away. After you got the key, you would have to go in the tower. When your inside, you need to go to the topest floor where you would see alot of brewing potions and a chest. You will need lockpicking for this. After you pick the chest you will get Touch of Zanzil and that will lead to the next quest. Enjoy!

Like oldbiker said, you need to think like a rogue.

I did this solo as a 20 Hum Rogue without fighting anything.

1) Raise your lockpicking skills at Athers Mill. I maxed mine at 100 to be sure.

2) Pickpocket the key from the spike-hair undead.

3) Get into the tower and stealth your way to the top. Stay away from the patrollers. If they're coming your way go the other way.

4) Sap the elite up there and pick the lock on the chest.

5) After getting the journel, jump down to the bottom of the tower and sprint out.

keep in mind folks, if you decide to open the chest first, you are poisoned with the Touch of Zanzis, the poison has no "visible" effect besides a dramtic reduction to your agility (which is death for rogues). what people dont know (or at least i didnt) is that if you are poisoned with the touch, your stealth is useless and you will fail everytime to pickpocket the damn drone.

If you invested in first aid however, up to anti venom, just kill a spider until you get a venom sack and create a vial of anti venom for yourself, this should. believe it or not, purge the touch of zanzis from you and pickpocketing should be cake (except if he resists it at first which will more then likely happen) curing yourself from the poison not only eliminates the 7 day waiting period of the poison, but it bypasses an annoying quest at the end of the poison's quest whos purpose is to cure you from the touch.

Suggestion: If you can't kill Mortwake, sap 'im, unlock the box. RUN. (Vanish is good if you have it too. ((Vanish THEN run!)))

The Drone can not see thru "Vanish" You have 10 seconds to slip behind him and Pickpocket him then Sprint out of there. You have to have that key to complete the quest BUT you do not need the key to open the Chest, just high enough skill, lvl 75 I believe.

You can stand behind the Chest beside the bookcase and open this chest time after time and get your Lockpicking skill advanced to 180 or as high as you Character level will allow to max. If you can not kill the NPC then bring someone who can if your concerned but stealthed from this spot will draw no argo.

Good Faq but needs some polish but thats only my opinion.

This was a fun quest for me and the very best way to advance lockpicking skill. Its a win, win Quest.

I dinged level 20 and started out on this quest. I tried to pick pocket him 3 times, and all 3 times he RESISTED! So I thought, maybe I can kill him. With 2 Paladins (18 and 19) and myself we died very fast. So I tried one last time to pick pocket him. IT WORKED! So if you are level 20 and wish to finish this quest right away, I suggest you keep trying, and to bring a Paladin or Priest to keep rezzing ya! If you wait till level 21 to pick pocket, it should be a cake walk. I hope this helps!

Pickpocket: Target is the Malformed Defias guy (lvl23). He is the only one solo. I stealthed behind him and picked as soon as I was in range. Had the key without a fight. Note: I am a lvl 20 NE rogue with 1 rank in MoD.

Stealthing through the tower: Tried. Failed. Got killed at the bottom. If/when this happens to you, rez at the top of the tower and avoid the rest of the mobs.

Picking the chest: I tried to do this from far away and he saw me and killed me.

Killing Mortwake: Tried several times with no luck.

I was in IF attempting to buy the linen to raise my First Aid to get rid of that horrible poison, when I had an idea.

/say Can anyone cast cure poison on me?

Gone, 2 seconds later. Druids get cure poison at lvl 14, so you might be able to just get one to do it at Sentinel Hill.

Repeat, HAVE A DRUID CAST CURE POISON ON YOU AFTER THIS QUEST!

Didn't do my research prior to this, so I ended up completing this quest as a L37 NE R.

Thanks to the info in this thread, I brewed some Anti-Venom before embarking. The mob coordinates were perfect as well. Linked up with Agent Kearnen, got the instructions. I pick-pocketed the key from the L24 spike haired guy, then killed him. Circled the outside of the tower and wiped out the pairs of patrolling guards. Wanted to save some time, so I stealthed to the top.

Sneaked up behind Mortwake, hit him with a Garrote, built up combo points and finished him. Went to the chest, unlocked it, grabbed the journal. Since I had killed Mortwake, I applied one Anti-Venom and the poison was gone! Stealthed back down, made my way back to Sentinel Hill and flew back to Stormwind City where I completed the quest and gained the ability to make poisons. Appreciated the info about the Thistle Tea receipe as well! Very valuable.

NOTE: Even if you have cured the poison, the quest scripting assumes that you haven't, and you will be asked if you want to accept The Touch of Zanil quest. Decline the quest (only if you have previously cured the poison), and you will save yourself a bucket load of time.

Alternative way from above posts:

Agent Kearnen is along the trees about halfway between the tower and the bridge to the north.

'Mortwake can smell your fear'

1. Pickpocket the key from the malformed defias drone
2. Kill the first two in the tower.
3. Walk around the next two (if you can kill these two together then you should be able to kill mortwake)
4. Throw an axe at Mortwake (this is where the fun begins)
5. jump down the tower. MOVE fast and dont go stealth yet
6. go overtop the hill just to the left of the entrance and move out into the fields.
7. Mortwake and the other two will stand on the hill looking for you.
8. Go stealth and double back to the tower.
9. once in the tower unstealth and climb back to the top.
10. now you can open that lockbox in peace.
(Mortwake will respawn so don't wait forever)

Rewards -> able to brew poisons

Ok. This was so easy looking back.

1) Level your lockpicking in Athers Mill. Mine was 82 when I did this.
2) Pickpocket the spike hair guy.
3) Run into the tower and let someone kill you.
4) Rez at the top of the tower.
5) Sap Mortwake and pick lock.
6) Jump from top of tower to the bottom floor and sprint out the door.

Piece of cake...

Note: I was lvl 20, NE rogue with one rank in MoD. So if you are not NE you better have 2 ranks of MoD or be higher lvl.

Does a Pally's "Purify" ability work for getting rid of the De-buff? I figure it will, but I'd definately like to make sure before I lose that much agility for 7 days :S

The quest for curing the Touch of Zanzil isn't that hard. Get the quest from Mathias and visit Doc Mixilpix or whatever it is in the basement. It's not a hard quest, just go to a couple different shops in Stormwind and grab the items needed. It's kind of a funny quest anyway, that doctor is kinda crazy.

Ok how are you to get the darn key. I have trid everthing to get it... I stelth and sees me, I sap him and cant go back into stelth to try and pp him.. i killed him and cant loot him .. how and the hell is it done.

I have a poison on my that was put on me when i was in the tower after the dron spowned and it says i have 7 days left befor it gose .. is that how he is seeing me? if so how do you get rid of it. do i have to wait 7 days befor i can try again?

Sveral guard on the way up see through stealth. They are lvl 22 and should be killed.

At level 20 I tried this and it took probably 5 or 6 pickpocket tries before I finally got the key from him. It is possible, just don't give up. Oh yeah, that simple first-aid anti-venom worked like a charm on the Touch of Zanzis poison.

...but maybe it's me.

1. I pîckpocket the drone and get the key
2. I kill and stealth my way up the tower
3. I sap Mortwake and try to open the box...
4. ...and I get a message that the box is locked.

- I have the drone's key
- I have thief lockpicking tools (which I have used)
- My heart is pure

What else do I need?

One day later, here's my own answer. It requires a lockpicking skill of 75 to open the coffer. You should probably do the Alther's Mill quest in Lakeshire first.

Died the first time, regular pickpocket. Used distract on him the second time. He stopped, and I got the key. 22 rogue.

He doesn't always have the key. I have picked his pockets about 5 times now and still no key got a locked box but no key. Also found out that you need to get the key first if you go for the chest you get poisoned and then you stealth doesn't work right.

I pickpocketed the drone, but there was nothing on him...somone else must have already done that I figured...

So I stealthed up the tower..

Somone had already blugeoned the guy up there...if he had been there I would have sapped him, lockpicked and then hearthstoned out...

And I did...I just didn't have to deal with sapping him.

PS - you HAVE to have the key now to complete the quest...which I didn't realize until getting back to stormwind... %@#%@%

I just completed this quest aliance and got my "poison" skill. You go to Stormwind city and talk with Methias Shaw in SI-7. He gives you the "Mathias and the Defias" quest. This is the only quest you need to get the poison skill.

1. travel to westfall past Sentinal Hill traveling east toward duskwood. Just before the bridge turn right and go along the bank until you see Agent Kearmen on your mini map or see Kearman jump down from a tree in stealth mode. Speaking to Agent Kearman completes this part of the quest.

2.The book you receive gives you a hint to the MOPs weakness (backstab) but doesn't apply to the spiked hair guy so don't try. You will die, he hits over 100 a pop. Just stealth up behind him and pick pocket the "key." The key is a quest item and is not used again. If you get the book first you will not be able to stealth anywhere near this guy without him going agro and killing you.

3. Now stealth into the tower and you should be able to avoid all the mops as you climb to the top floor. On the top floor is one MOP..elite but his back is to you so stealth up behind and SAP him. Then turn to the chest that is to his left and use lock picking skills to open it. Grab the book inside.

4. You will be poisoned when you open the chest but ignore and hit speed, jump down to the main floor, and run out toward the river. Head back to stormwind ( there is a flight path to sentinal hill) and complete the quest with Methias shaw. He will tell you to see a doctor to remove the poison but it isn't necessary to get the poison skill.

5. Use a potion or get someone to "remove" poison and you will be healed.
then go to the rouge trainer and buy your poison skill. Enjoy..

You need lockpicking for this. Around 70 skill level (unconfirmed).

Don't be a muppet like me and try and do this quest before levelling lockpicking because poisons are way cooler.

People say you can solo this quest as a level 20, but for an average players, you will die multiple times which makes doing it at 20 not worth it. Reaching 22 and then learning distract and then doing this quest is much much faster than doing this quest at 20 and then reaching 22.

Not a moment too soon, <name>. SI:7 reconnaissance is reporting unusually heavy Defias activity in Westfall.

It would seem that the Defias have taken over an abandoned Alliance watch tower southeast of Sentinel Hill and are using it as a base of operations to smuggle in goods from the Redridge supply route.

Get to Westfall and contact Agent Kearnen for your debriefing. You will find her hidden near the tower.

...and <name>, should you be discovered, SI:7 will disavow all knowledge of your existence.
