This is pretty straightforward. You automatically complete this quest after completing all four of the individual chapter quests. It's worth significantly (5 times) more XP than the individuals, and the reward items are pretty good.

You can pretty much buy all the pages (except page 26 which seems somewhat rarer) from the AH - about 10 silver a page - which considering the XP gained is pretty good value.

I recommend completing this quest toward the end of your stay in Stranglethorn. Most of the pages can be collected thru the many other quests in the area simply as static loot drops; just stick them in the bank. By the time I was halfway done my first quests I was only three pages short... 30 silver at the AH and I was good to go.

My biggest piece of advise would be to always have at least 8 or 10 available slots in your bags when looking for these pages. They drop constantly and having to run back and forth to the bank can be a big pain. You don't have to turn in the chapters in order, so once you get one, go back to Barnil to free up some bag-space.

Note that unlike the page collection quest in Ashenvale , these pages are not completely sequential. I spent hours on my first character trying to obtain pages like 3,5 and 7 that don't exist.

If you have the money you can buy all pages for around 40s a piece, like i did for my alt.

40s x 15 = 6g for the xp, just give me some more where i can change money into xp!

On Blood Furnace, the pages sell in the AH for around 15s, so it's easier to just buy them rather than wait for them to drop.

I had most of the pages that I had collected back on my main a while ago when I was questing in STV, and sometimes I would get more than 1 of the samep age, so I would just save them in my bank cause I knew I was gonna make an alt sooner or later, and now here I am on my 34 druid, about to go start the quest with most of the pages, I had to buy 2 off the AH, and I just gotta get page 14 and I'm done.

I got 775 xp per chapter, and then for The Green Hills of Stranglethorn I got 4700. Pretty nice

You know, there's another reason to do this quest. Do it in order to read the book. From my brief look over the pages, it appears to be a parody of Hemingway's "The Green Hills of Africa". Note the similarity between "Ernest Hemingway" (who wrote the real book) with "Hemet Nesingway" (who wrote the in-game book).

If it's even halfway readable, it's worth it to be able to read it.

Took me an entire level (36-37) to finish it and I bought 4 pages to get it done. One of the biggest problems was how much of your backpack and bags the pages took up (8 or 9 slots at one point). And the current rewards (mail boots, thick armor kit & superior healing potion) are not fabulous. But I got 7100 total XP and that's pretty good. It's the highest I've ever received from a single or series quest.

AND you can solo this, so you can do it in your spare time.

I found all these pages when fighting the Kurzon whilst doing the quests for the Rebel Camp.

They seem to be 10 a penny every other Kurzon mage, fighter, commando etc had one. They are found in the Kurzon encampment North East in Stranglethorn.

The trolls near the hunters camp where you obtain this quest seem to drop quite a few aswell.

The surrounding beasts don't tend to drop as many while i was fighting them. Best sticking to humanoids.

Check in the AH for missing pages, clear all fields/filters and do a search on the word - Stranglethorn.

And thanks to the poster far above for letting us know the required pages! Nice one ;)

Trolls at ruins had the largest number of drops while the dwarves to the east at the river were a bit more tight with the pages.

After an afternoon of solo killing I had just over half the pages and 2-3 copies each.

Went to faction-specific (non-neutral) AH and bought the rest for an average price of 12s each. Taking a look they had enough pages to make at least 4 books for less than 1g 50s each...faster and easier than killing all day just not as much fun;-)

The turn-in for me as a lvl 39 Hunter was 775 XP for each chapter and 4300 XP for the book. 7400 XP for those more mathmagically challenged...VERY NICE INDEED:)

Vendored the plate boots (soulbound), reserved the use of the thick leather patches for when I get to use the awesome mail a friend is going to make me when I hit 40 and promptly used the superior healing potions in RFD.

Most people I've seen have had much better than the sword that was previously offered by the time they got to this quest...all hail AH...so I'm not missing it a bit.

i didnt notice that you only needed certain pages at first, so i banked a whole lot of stuff. page 14 was the most common, i ended up with 7 of those. the least common seemed to be page 10. i only had 1 page 10 to hand in, while all the others had at lesat 3.

i did all of my grinding on headhunters and stuff in zul'kunda and they drop these things quite frequently.

i sold a bunch of the pages for "more than 7s" in the general chat and players took it upon themselves to give me 15 or 20s per page. thanks!

oops! forgot to mention that i got 750 xp every time i created a whole chapter, and then 4900 xp when i handed in all four complete chapters. all of this at level 42.

i lost the chapter 3 or destroyed it by accident. how you can get the quest back or something to get it back because i completed the quest chapter 3. And then lost that one:(. Now i cant complete it.

Do yourself a favor. Don't concentrate on this quest. Pick up any pages that may drop while doing other quests. Buy whatever you don't have from other players and sell duplicates. Trying specifically to complete this quest will lead to insanity and a miniscule reward compared to the amount of time put in.

I baught most of my pages on auction for 5-15s each. have all the pages now going to aquire the quest.

If you are looking for a specific page try the AH. The drops are all random, all over the Vale. Mostly Humanoids. No easy way to complete this quest. No coords. Just keep grinding.

Pages popped frequently on humanoid mobs in Stranglethorn and occasionally on others. Just keep doing the quests with fast payback and the pages will come. For those last pages you can't wait for, AH has them and they go for 5-10s if you're patient. There are no "rare" pages as far as AH prices, but when I needed only a couple pages to complete the quest, the mobs wouldn't drop what I needed...go figure.

I did all 4 chapters, when i try to turn in, he says i lost chapter 1, but i left it rite here. Still giving the Yellow Question mark but i dont have Cahp 1 now and can't seem to find it, even though he says it rihgt here, Anyone have this problem?

the only pages needed:
chapter 1 = pg 1,4,6,8
chapter 2 = pg 10,11,14,16
Chapter 3 = pg 18,20,21,24
Chapter 4 = pg 25,26,27

TOTAL XP at lvl 45 I got = 7,800
775 for binding each chapter so x4 = 3,100
4700 for turning all chapters

As a Druid 37 I got 775 xp each for compiling the chapters and 4700 xp for the final completed manual.

Level 40 seems a bit high for this quest.

Back in the day the Olmann Sewer reward was great.

Olmann Sewar junk now is just for selling, only good of the quest is exp, it's a shame.

This quest is boring to undertake, but it is worth it in the end.

The trick is to NOT worry about getting pages, but to just collect them as you complete the other SV/BB quests. Before you know it, you will have gotten all the pages you need, and turn them in.

Most people sell pages at 10s each, so if you are missing one, watch for a "WTS" message. Someone has it and doesn't need it. Just be patient.

750xp per chapter (4 of them) and then 4700xp to turn in the whole book, at lvl 42. Nothing like a quick 7700xp to brighten your day, and the quest rewards are ok.

this quest is breeze for work vs reward.

just do other quests in area, i did 3 other quests and i had all pages except 4, i bought those off other players, this quest took no effort, only minor cramp when it comes to space if you are missing pages across sets instead of in same sets. i got 700ish exp off each set, then close to another 5k for turning the sets in, it was a thanks.

that one post says to sell them to vendor, which is pretty dumb, selling the rewards off quest in AH + extra pages in AH is LOTS more money, on top of the exp reward. vendors dont pay crap for real things, better off selling pages/kit/potions in AH if you just want the money. why drop them to vendor for 4s if players will pay around 20s?(ponders)

just dont run around and camp mobs for pages, do other quests in zone, before you know it you'll have almost all pages or most of them, then you can buy missing ones for like 10-25s off players in area, or AH if you get real desperate. some players even give them to you for free, or you could do page trades.

you should also know that reward is 2 armor kits and 3 potions, not 1 of each, so reward is more then listing up tops says it is. it says 1 of each, but it isnt, quest gave me 2 armor kits and 3 potions.

the drop rate for all pages looked completly equal to me, i got few spares and not all i needed, but i didnt pay enough attention to that. all mobs in zone seem to drop pages, while doing quests i got pages off venture co workers, naga, bloodsail, and zanzil mobs. i would guess higher mobs have higher drop rates, but you'd have to look if you are trying certain lvl vs drop rate.

Do you at any point get the whole book? I finished all the quests and was expecting to get a copy of all the pages in a single book but I guess I was wrong. Does it get mailed to you later or something like some quests do? I noticed that there's a full book in Wowhead's database, it just doesn't say where you obtain it anywhere.

Do not abandon the quest to create some space in your quest log, it will delete any completed chapters in your bags... don't make my mistake!

You probably don't need to accept this quest or the quests for the chapters as you will collect the pages as you travel around Stranglethorn Vale.

Although it's probably obvious: Something I haven't seen mentioned is that you don't need to be on any of the sub-quests to get page drops.
This is important because of the limited quest log size, and ease with which you pick up many high level quests and quests between zones.
But if you don't pick up the quests, the quest log cannot track your progress collecting pages.

I've found it useful to use a macro that reports the number of pages collected by chapter.

The macro above:
* Counts all pages collected by the character.
* It includes pages stored in your bank.
* It prints this with the item link for each page, which is especially useful if you have an add-on that enhances the item tooltip.
* 👉 NB: When you first run the macro, some of the item links might be "nil" if they haven't been cached yet. Simply running the macro again resolves this.
* The macro squeaks in at the 255 character limit; feel free tweak as you wish, but pay close attention to the length as you do.

Here are a some variations which have different benefits and may be preferred:

1) The following displays page counts in bank and in bags separately. (You don't want to rock up at the hunting camp only to realise you should have visited the bank in Booty Bay first.)
Also note the aforementioned character limit means the colour formatting had to be scrapped.

It leverages the add-on's caching of data between characters.
It's very useful to check know if an alt has one of the missing pages.
Click the item-link to see the enhanced tooltip, which should tell you which characters have the page.
⚠ NB: It is dependent on the add-on, and could fail if the add-on is significantly changed in an update.

If you accidentally delete a chapter, talking to Barnil will give you an option to retrieve it again. This option will also be there if you store your chapter in the bank, but then the option will not work =(

He trusted me to proofread the manuscript of his novel, The Green Hills of Stranglethorn. Everything was going well, but a large gust of wind blew through the camp and scattered the pages everywhere!

I was able to gather most of the pages but many are still strewn about the jungle. Collect the pages to complete each of the four chapters.

I will help you organize them. Return the chapters to me once you have all four.
