It is strongly suggested that you bring a 5 man party for this quest.

There are serveral tactics to handle this quest, a good tactic would be to move everyone onto the lower part of the mountain. The tank should now pull him down there and turn his back towards the brick wall of the mountain (to avoid being knocked off) and the rest focus on DPS (some might have issues with the add spawn, if you wipe on the add, try focusing the dps towards them as a priority and then continue on the demon).

priest was in blues, lock in blues/purples, epic'd fury warrior tank.

first try i had on dps gear, but w/ the mana burn it wasnt enuf to keep me up, 2nd try threw on some tank gear and ezmode, make sure ur casters have pots and ur golden =D, lock pulled and killed first add, i double tanked the 2nd and finished the boss then finished the add gg ^_^

also remember to put ur back to the wall so u dont get flung

Just took this guy down tonight with a 5 man group. He was pretty hard but not as hard as some people are saying.

Group composition - Me - 60 Warrior (prot spec), priest (shadow spec), warlock (using imp), mage, druid. Between us we had about 6 epics - all in pre-MC and in most cases pre-Tier 0 set gear.

So, how did we do it?:

1) Preparation. All casters had a couple of mana pots, health pots. Priest was SS'd, warrior and druid healthstoned. I used dense sharpening stone, strength, agility, spirit scrolls, elixir of superior defense and the usual priest and druid buffs. My gear is reasonable for a non-MC warrior, 5k health unbuffed.

2) Tactics. Summon Raz, warrior taunt him off whoever he goes for, everyone jumps down the hillside to the rune together, taking care to heal once down as the drop can take health off. Warrior tank him with back to hillside so that when he performs his knockback you don't get smacked off the side.

3) Weaken. Use Fel Salve at the start of the fight as you wont get time once his adds pop up. We got the warlock to do it as his spells weren't doing much damage.

4) DPS. Warrior sunders to 5, and everyone lays into him. Mage using arcane missiles, warlock shadowbolt, druid and warrior hitting with large pointy things.

5) Add 1. At 50-60%, Ilifar turned up, and the druid tanked him in bear form while the lock and mage brought him down. I got hit with a knockback here but with my back to the wall I just bounced off and didn't get hurt. Taunt Raz back onto warrior again and continued.

6) DPS 2. With Ilifar dead, I'd tank dps'd Raz down to about 45% in the meantime. We carried on with DPS til he got to around 20%. (Had to re sunder around this point.)

7) Add 2. At this time, Felcular appeared. We got the druid to tank him and self heal while the rest of us continued to smack Raz. Mana was low here, the priest had all but run out, so I whacked on shield wall, healthstoned, and bought the priest some mana up time. 10%

8) Finish him!. Our druid died then, but we'd held them off long enough. Execute along with the support dps finished Raz off, and I dragged Felcular off our warlock. With only one target left, he quickly went down.

9) Victory! ;)

Just helped a guildie with this.
Me, 70 Feral Druid and 65 Shadow Priest on full healing duty.
The Mana Burn was most annoying, we made it with me on 10% health and him at 100% / 0% mana

Okay to clear up something: He is not immune to "all magic" or at least not as far as I can tell. He IS immune to shadow, fire, fear, and banish (so as a warlock.. I was freaking useless) arcane magic DOES seem to work on him though.

I also strongly, strongly suggest a 5 man party for this.

Also a tip: If you died but your fellow guildies who were so kind as to help you with this quest did not die, but are waiting at the bottom of the mountain for you, **please be careful about teleporting up to the top to resurrect without warning your party first** as it will pull everyone nearby up with you. I wiped our group once that way ;)

The walk through above is amazing, so follow that :) Good luck!

since the bastid is pretty much magic immune.. and summons another lvl 60 elite pet.. i'd say lots of tanks/priests hehe.

AFAIK he will only drop the quest item since you can only get that with the amulet you get from the Fallen Hero of the Horde (Swamp of Sorrows). He is a VERY tough guy to kill. A group of level 60s got wiped a couple of times. He is immune to all warlocks DoTs (all curses, corruption), banish and fear. He also resisted everytime shadow burn. I was only able to hit him with Shadow Bolts. The other problem is that he kicks the tank hard. If the tank is kicked out of the mountain it is pretty much over. The guys he spawn are also immune to pretty much everything, but don't have too many HPs.

For those who don't know, this is part of a very long series of quests. Please read my comments under the quest "The Disgraced One" quest for complete quest line. I also posted all the items you get at completion. You get 3 items after this quest, plus 2 more on your way to this quest.

Ok we found the best way to kill him.

We had 6 people, a 60 warrior and 60 mage, 57 warrior, 57 rogue and 57 priest.

The trick is:

Get everone on the lower part of the mountain. (the bit that you step on the rune to get teleported down)

Get the main tank to pull raz down to that bit, and have the MT stand with his back facing the mountain, that way when Raz kicks the tank, he doesn't fly off the mountain, he just slides up the wall and back down again.

Secondly, when Raz summons his bodies, get everyone to focus fire on them, kill them, then get back to Raz.

We killed him twice in a row this way.

This is doable with 4 or more!
Ok this is what I did:

1) My warrior summoned him and Miklon lvl 57 druid kept healing me. The other members of the party Tanalin and Dynamitee level 60 warriors and FunnyBunny level 54 hunter stayed on the ground.

2) I kept aggroing him to follow me. I dropped off the mountain top to the ledge with the purple teleport symbol but stayed away from it.

3) I then dropped down to the next ledge (there is only one) and the hunter took over the aggro.

4) FunnyBunny then kited him around whilst we attacked him. He did spawn 2 addonds but we took them down as well.

5) He was kited around the small hill to the NE of where we dropped to the ground from the mountain. If you go around the hill you will pass some of the diggers and cross the path that leads to Nethergarde. Just keep him kited and the rest attack him.

6) This means that you can have as many people as you want attacking him once he hits ground level. if you fail, respawn time is about 5 minutes so buff up. In this instance only mikon and myself had the quest. Once you hand the quest in you can no longer teleport up the mountain to help other members unless you do not hand your quest in.

The rewards I got for this was nearly 10k xp though it is no good at my level, Demon's Blood trinket, 16 slot bag soulbound and a necklace with 10 fire resistance and 10 shadow resistance.

I followed the advice from a earlier post, this was how we did it.

Me, a shaman, and a lock all had the rune, we ported up to the top then jumped down near the Rune of Return.

We made a raid group of about 7 guys, summoned them up. We disbanded and reformed.

The Fight

The fight is easy. First get someone WITH the rune to summon him. Whack him a little but fast because he hits hard, then jump down to the rune of Return.

From there DPS him untill he summons his first add. His add is elite but very easy. Move all DPS on to the add and kill it, then DPS him agian untill he summons his second add. Do the same as before.

NOTE

The real problem is staying alive. Get a good tank and healer and your set.

Also, make sure to keep the tank agiasn't the wall. This guy can literally blast you off the mountain. Make complete sure to warn everyone about the knock back and the adds and your fine.

The quests up to Raz are great to complete when you are levelling in your 50s as the experience is awesome, won't be able to kill him until you are 60 prolly though

We just killed him, group was 60 rogue (me), 60 warrior, 60 mage, 58 rogue, & 60 shaman (healer). We wiped 3 times on him, went for one last attempt, killed his adds as soon as he summoned them while warrior tanked him, & got him down to like 1% health when he wiped us again.Then shaman self-ressed & killed him! :D It was awesome to see. Shammies ftw :)

I have a way for hunter(horde) to solo it.I did it 30 minintes ago.

All you need is some bottles of noggenfogger elixir, (can be baught from Martin NoggenFogger in Tanaris after finishing his quests) ,some luck and many patience.

drink the noggenfogger elixir, you will have some chance to have a buff which lasts for 2mins. During the time you won't get harmed from falling. Then go onto the mountain through the rune, activate the demon, jump down from the hill ( you won't get harmed beause of the noggenfogger elixir) and then kite it to stonard.(use arcane shot level 1 once every 6 secs to keep the demon in aggro )

In stonard, you just need to go in and out from the two exists and the npcs in stonard will help you kill the demon.The total combat lasts about 10-15minuts.

The same tactics can be used on Grol ( a level 58 elite in blasted lands.)

You can get your entire party up to the top of the mountain, regardless of who has the quest. The key is to have someone who DOES have the quest to speak to the Deathly Usher and ask to face Rakh'likh, and your entire group will be teleported to the top of the mountain. This is also how you can get back up while dead to reclaim your corpse. REMEMBER- this teleports your WHOLE party, dead or alive, regardless of who's up there already!

We tried this with four people- two 60 Warriors, two 60 Druids. On our final attempt we got him to around 10%, at which point he spawned a Doomguard-looking protector which was just enough to finish us all off. However, his little friend on the horse is pretty much a pushover in comparison to the big guy. Warriors, listen to the person who posted above- if you get knocked into the air, Zerk Stance + Intercept will save you!

WARNING- Rakh'likh is well-nigh immune to seemingly 90% of debuffs. Bleeding, taunting, Faerie Fire, Moon/Starfire, Demoralizing Shout, Thunder Clap- nothing stuck. However, Sunder Armor stacked (though it seemed to do crap for grabbing aggro), and the Mortal Strike effect took as well. Your tank is going to need to be able to pump out some DPS in order to keep aggro... for us, ol' Rakh was all over the place, with two experienced Warriors completely unable to keep him off our healers for any real length of time.

Bring some demonslaying potions! Maybe next time I'll remember to use mine! :(

Warr, 2 pallies, 2 locks, all 60.

Summoned him, everyone jumped down to the ledge and kept their backs to the wall, and we unleashed dps, pallies healed. When he summoned his add, we ignored it and killed the defiler first, then we killed add. He did his knockback thingy halfway through the fight, nobody got knocked off the mountain as our backs were to the wall :)

Note: The posts above are correct wrt the bug. One of the grp gotta die and talk to the ghost to port everyone in the group up. Then dead person jumps down to res and lock summons him on top of mountain.

Requirements: One person with the quest. (No lock needed).

1) Group up (duh...)
2) Person with the quest dies
3) The entire party goes to a rune of teleporation (if someone is too far away it won't port them up). Person with the quest (dead) goes to a rune and talks to the ghost there. This teleports party members near the rune to the top of the hill.
4) Dead person jumps down, finds their body and rezes.
5) Person with the quest (now alive but at the bottom) must drops group, then step on the rune and is ported to the top.
6) reinvite, summon, kill...

No lock needed for summons.

I managed to do complete this quest with a level 60 Hunter. I am a level 60 Mage. Yes, we two-manned this; it IS possible. Here is our strategy:

1) Travel to the mountain called Rise of the Defiler in the Blasted Lands and look for Runes of Defiler around the mountain.

2) The person with the quest unequips all armor and purposely dies. Come back to the Rune of Defiler with the ghost and ask it to teleport your entire party to the top of the mountain, where the boss spawns. Thus, the hunter is teleported up with me to the top of the mountain. I'm still dead so I find my body , ressurect and equip back all armor.

3) The hunter looks down the mountain and locates the Rune of Return. He drops down to the Rune of Return and then drops down to the next ledge and STAYS there. Meanwhile I leave the party and go to any Rune of Defiler at the base of the mountain. Just step over the rune and you should be teleported up as long as you have the amulet. .

4) Once the mage is up there , make sure you both have full mana and health. The mage casts ice barrier and mana shield on herself. Right click the altar to summon Rakh'likh. Once he appears, the mage locates the Rune of Return quickly and jumps down using Slow Fall as she falls. This prevents the mage from taking any damage from the fall.

5) Now the mage is on the ledge with the Rune of Return. The mage targets Rakhlikh at this point, while he falls down the mountain after her. The hunter is still waiting on the next ledge below the one the mage is on, but he is still out of range so he can't attack. Therefore, the mage MUST maintain the aggro by casting ARCANE MISSILES as soon as she can . Once he is hit by one missile, quickly fall off the ledge down to the ledge the hunter is waiting on. The mage should still have the effect of Slow Fall, so this fall should still do no damage. Note: if the mage fails at maintaining aggro, Rakhlikh will return to his spawn point on top of the mountain, while evading any attacks along the way.

6) At this point, the hunter is in range of Rakhlikh and takes over. The hunter's job is to Kite him. As someone said, Rakhlikh doesn't have ranged attacks, so kiting him should be easy. The hunter makes sure to have Aspect of Cheetah on and Arcane Shot . He starts by using Arcane Shot to maintain aggro. Now, he is still on the ledge, so he makes his way quickly down the rest of the mountain. If you're facing away from the mountain, there is a slight slope on the right. The hunter should receive little to no damage from going this way, rather then dropping straight down .

7) At this point, everyone should be on the ground at the base of the mountain. The Hunter makes sure to use Arcane Shot whenever he can. The mage leads the hunter along the most straightforward path to NETHERGARDE KEEP, taking care of any mobs along the way. Since the hunter is on Cheetah, he will be concussed if anything hits him. There should be hardly any mobs anyways, since the mountain is very close to the path.

8) The hunter continues to kite Rakhlikh and follow the mage to Nethergarde Keep. Continue on to the town. There are some guards along the way that will help kill Rakhlikth, and when you reach town, there are tons of guards that will go on him. The hunter still kites him around town, but gets in any shots that he can while the mage gets in Arcane Missiles whenever she can.

9) At some point, one of Rakhlikh's adds will spawn, but it is slow and you shouldn't have to worry about it as long as the hunter is still kiting. It seems to disappear after a while. With the help of the guards and mage and hunter doing any damage they can, Rakhlikth will eventually go down. A second add will spawn when he is close to dying, but again, don't worry about it until Rakhlikth is down. If anyone dies, come back as quickly as possible; Rakhlikth will still be there as long as he is fighting the guards on him.

Note: if you fail at attempting this, Rakhlikth will take 5 minutes to respawn.

This quest, although seamingly hard at first, was pretty easy once I found the right tactic.

I replaced my arcane shot with rank 3 arcane shot on my action bar. Being it new years, I filled a festive mug, because those give you a Light Headed effect when drank. That makes you slow fall for 30 seconds. I transported up to the top of the mountain and summoned him. After summoning I immidiatley drank the festive mug drink. Then I ran north and RAN (not jumped) off the mountain, and shot him a few times on the way down with Arcane and Silence Shot (hes immune to sdilence, but the damage keeps him aggroed) I hit the spot with the return beacon, and kept running north. Once on the ground I proceeded to kite him normally to Stonard. Occasionally he casts Mana Burn, but if you stay far enough ahead of him it will cancel the cast, and keep him running after you.

Once at Stonard, I kept aggro and let the guards beat him down. He will summon 2 friends, but they last a max of 30 seconds. I kited him through the inn, which gave me time to bandage and such, because of LoS issues.

Overall, if you can kite him to Stonard and keep DPS'ing him and keep aggro, you should be fine.

I used 1 major mana pot during the whole thing. Not too tough, but a good challenge for a kiter.

iam a 55 mage and he resisted all my attack and so do his minions. but i still pwned em

my secret..... a 68 priest, a 62 warr, 60 resto shammy

We also jumped down 1 ledge, since he would kik the warrior into the air
when he brought out the guy on the horse, the priest switched from healing and DPSed the horsemen down while shammy healed the warr. then focused on the boss again, but the time his 2nd minion came, Rakh had about 800 health and we burned em down first. the minion went down easy...

i still had the staff with me, but it didnt help at all i think...

got 9900 exp, pretty sweet deal.

48,23 to teleport to the top of the mountain.

That fact seems to be sadly lacking in these comments.

For anyone without coordinates, the mountain is the Rise of the Defiler, and the NPC who teleports you is around the base.

Everyone who has the quest, up to this point can go up top. Those who do not have it can not get up top.
If your group is comprised of either I would suggest pulling him all the way down bottom. He has a knockback effect that'll blow your tank off the mountain if your up top.

To Pull him down, run backwards (facing him) down the North slope hitting him all the way down (you maintain agro/kiting by doing this).
Remember to send a healer with the person that is going down, 'cause those falls are 1500hp+ falls (3 falls), and he's hitting you too.

Start pounding him. At about 70%hp he spawns an add, kill it! It's an Elite (hits like a lvl60 Elite, but has the hp of a regular mob). After the add is killed, continue on him until he dies. Now another lvl60 Spawns from his corpse, kill it!

Loot, return to quest giver and get rewards.

Once Quest is handed in you lose your Amulet to teleport up.

lvl 53 ret-pala and me 65 tank-warrior easy to kill and escape from mana burns, pull to one edge and healer stay at the other, used 2 heal pot thats all, i was waiting for this since lvl 58 :)

This quest has been somewhat broken since the 1.11 patch -- the Deadly Usher NPC is INVISIBLE unless you are dead (and I spent about half an hour wandering around before I figured this out). You can still get up to the top with your group, but it involves more work, and a warlock:

- Take all your armor off to prevent durability damage, and kill yourself.
- Run back to the Rune of the Defiler object on the north side of the mountain.
- Talk to the Deadly Usher and tell him you want to face the demon. This will port your group to the top, regardless of where they are.
- Fall back down the mountain to your body and rez, and put your armor back on.
- Have your group members up at the top of the mountain summon you up.

Then you can complete the quest as normal. My group consisted of a hunter (me), two warlocks, a restoration spec shaman and a feral spec druid. If you have an off-tank concentrate on the first add, you can ignore the second add and kill the main demon easily. Once he's dead the group should be pretty beat up, so loot him and run! As a hunter it was particularly problematic for me to get range, but not impossible so long as whoever's tanking the main demon - my pet in this case - stays in the center of the mountaintop.

I've never done this quest chain before and have just been working on it with my rogue. But i remember helping a druid firend of mine who was on it about a year and a half ago. fun times, this is what we did.

we had Me, Cthulan, night elf hunter, a drood (feral) Syrian, and Pal, a dps Paladin back when dps and paladin in the same sentence were followed by a drumroll and canned laughter. (he was good though)

As only Syrian had the quest he was the only one who could teleport up, i dont know if the ghost existed then or not but either way, he didnt use it. he then pulled it, went cat form and hopped down the north east face of the mountain (its a bit safer to jump there) when in range i got my pet to chase up the mountain after the big demon chap and pull him off the druid so he could get down safely and heal himself, i then switched pet to passive and began to kite rezthingy in circles in and out of netherguard.

we were all happily hitting it little by little when this freakin deathguard showed up. Pal took straight to it and proceeded to kick the unholy crap out of it, then we got a felguard which both pal and syrian beat up, i threw a few shots in as i passed by. i didnt keep track of the time but i think it took us a good 20 mins to drop him. many thanks to the netherguarde guards that valiantly gave their lives to contribute probably the most dps in that fight :D

You'll need a full group for this guy, each person in the group will likey have to have done the quest up to this point as well as the Fallen Horde Hero activates the portals to you when you accep tthis quest.
Me (60 War), a 60 Rogue, and a 59 Shaman attempted and got him to half HP where he then summons another level 60 elite guard to help him. We died at this point, the main guy hits quite hard, the shaman was out of mana when the second guy spawned, which then killed us quite quickly. I'll edit if any special info when we get around to killing.

Just for the record, for those wanting a decent idea whats needed to kill this guy (as postings range from "i solo'd this as a 54mage" to "you need a 10man+ raid with epixxx"), here is my encounter.

Pally61 & hunter61, both fairly well geared, some epics and rest mostly blue's (a couple of nice BC greenies in there ofc ^^). Failed to kill the mob, but got him to 15%hp or so. It *might* have been possible if we changed tactics a little and/or had perhaps slightly better gear... So, either 3 ppl about lvl58+ or 2 ppl about lvl62+ could do this guy.

Best advice would be that -
1>> The 2 adds he pops out, kill them asap - they hurt alot yet dont have that much hp
2>> Dont waste time or mana trying any type of debuffing (locks cant DoT, Pally's cant judge, i would imagine after effects such as ignite wont stick either). Basically - str8 up dmg only works.

Best strategy I've heard so far is the following:

Get the whole party (and additional help if available) up to the top. Let all but the tank jump down to the offset to the north (where the rune of return is but stay clear of that rune). Now have the tank summon Razelikh and pull him down the north as well. Make Razelikh fight the tank on the slope while the tank has his back towards the mountainside he just came down. This way Razelikhs knockback will just throw the tank into the cliff. Have everybody else DPS the @#$% out of him!

When first add spawns at 70% health, take him out directly he is easy. (Ilifar the end he spawns yet another add so keep your strength up and be ready to tank him as well! (Felcular by the way, the runes that are supposed to teleport you to the top seems to be bugged. Took us ages of running over them every time we wanted to go up. If you have the final quest just keep running until you get teleported up.

For doing this quest I recommend having at least 3 characters who need it of whom one is a warlock so you can summon a good party at the top. Don't try it without a good tank, he hits HARD. Cloth and other ppl not tanking should stay as far away as possible as he has a pretty nasty AoE.

I've been up there and whiped several times. We also got him all the way down the mountain once but that was really hard. I must admit I haven't tried the tactic described above but from my experience with him so far it sounds like the best plan.

when i first tryed to kill the last boss, i tryed it with 2 friend, and it was impossible, so we found a warlock with the same quest and got him to summon some friend up to help.

First only one person need the amulet to get ported by the ghost to the top..the WHOLE group goes. You can help others do this even if you dont have the amulet any more..only one person needs it. THat person needs to talk to the ghost.
We tried this with 2 differnt set up groups and failed both times. He is highly resistant to all magic but arcane. Seems only melee will take him down.
First group was priest, druid, warrior, 2 warlocks.
second group was priest, paladin, warrior, mage and warlock. second group did slightly better than first, but neither succeeded. we are going to try agian with 3 melee and 2 healers hoping this will work.

I just decided to clear out my old quest log prior to TBC. I am a feral druid in ZG/MC/BWL gear and got him to 90% on my own. Brought 4 guildies of equal / better gear and pwned all three easily. I tanked the main guy whilst a second druid dps'd, a paladin dps'd until adds and then pwned them on there own and a priest and rogue helped me down Raki'pants.

A very easy quest for good rewards (8g + 3 sellable items) i kept the 16 slot bag :)

Fireflake's advice is sound. But the most important thing of all: THE FELBANE ITEMS WORK. Yes, they do say "against servants of Razelikh", but it WORKS against him. We wiped 5 times before someone told us this and then we took him "easily".

Must be that;

a) Alliance, Paladin (with the quest) ports up, summons/aggros, jump the cliff down to his comrades using one or two boubles on his way down (bubbles instacast, can be cast when falling, both bubbles ignores fall damage and eatch last for 12s). Once down at the bottom with their friends, zerg all you like.

b) Horde, Shaman (with the quest) ports up, summons/aggros, jump the cliff down to his comrades. Just before he lands (and take damage) cast Sentry Totem (when you switch view to sentry totem you automaticly stop falling, when you switch back to normal view you start falling again.) Can be used at any hight totally safe.

c) Anyone, any class (with the quest) ports up. Drinks Noggerfogger Elixir untill he gets featherfall effect, summon/aggro and jump down to comrades.

d) Anyone, any class (with the quest) ports up. Using either engineering or the Feralas parashute capes, summon/aggro and jump down to comrades.

If your a lowlvl party or extrmly crappy geared/skilled you can allways have a secondary party just taking care of the adds (once down below the cliff)

I just see a multitude of possibilites other then gathering atleast three people whereof one warlock to complete this quest.

From the 1.10 patch notes:

The Deathly Usher in the Blasted Lands will now transport a whole group up to the Rise of the Defiler as long as one person is on the quest 'You Are Rakh'likh, Demon.'

So you only need one with the quest now, he can port up your whole group by speaking to the ghost placed at the very north of the runes. Haven´t tried how near you have to be as a groupmember, but at least being near the mountain works. Same if you wipe: Just gather at the rune, and the one with the quest can summon you all up, where you can resurrect then (just make sure he already has despawned ;)).

Here's my personal experiences with this fight. Don't take it as gospel on how it'll go for any of the rest of you; this is just how we faced it.

Getting to the top of the mountain Razelikh is on requires someone in the party to have at least one person on the quest. That person may talk to a ghost NPC thing on the north side of the mountain to teleport the entire party up to the top. I believe this will work no matter where your party members are in the zone; it teleported me from the graveyard to the top when one of us talked to said ghostie.

Activating Razelikh is easy; you just click on the altar there, and he appears.

Fighting him is tougher than you probably imagined.

Not only does the demon hit like a freight train, and occasionally toss people off the mountain (usually killing them, since the height is very excessive), but he also summons two helpers. The first he summoned for us was Ilifar (guy on horseback). He did this around 60%-50% health. Ilifar also hits like a brick wrapped with arcanite. Around 10% health, Rakelikh summoned a second add, Felcular (felguard-type guy), with the same strength.

All of these guys - Rakelikh, Ilifar, and Felcular - are immune to just about everything except pure direct damage. Warlocks are rather gimpy in and of themselves; the only thing I could possibly get to work was Shadowbolt, and no curses of any kind worked on any of them. To make matters worse, I'm told by the warriors that the mobs are immune to their own DoT effects, so rogues are probably in the same boat as warlocks with regards to debuffs that would normally help the fight.

In short, this is one of the hardest fights you can have. The fighting area is small, and there's little or no room for any error whatsoever.

So, how did we beat him?

Bring in a second group, by having a warlock get to the top, then summon up some help. The second group serves only one purpose: taking the adds when they appear. Be careful to tell the second group to not even touch Razelikh until after the second add is summoned; if the second group gets twitchy when Razelikh appears, they'll make him grey to the quest group, and you'll have to repeat the fight again. You must have a tank, and you must have a healer, both top of the line, in the quest group; nothing less appeared to work very good at all. (Note: a group of shamans/paladins, druids, and others might work if they are specced and geared right, but ours were in early-raid gear, and not up to the task.)

With a full second group, the fight is a bit easier. You just punk down Razelikh, and the second group punks down his adds. Once the second add appears, the second group can pretty much contribtue to any DPS on Razelikh they want; just make sure they are keeping the second add busy (i.e. have them put a tank and healer on him, and have everyone jump Razelikh in a giant monkey-f***).

What happens if things go bad?

First off, the adds don't appear to despawn. At least, not for a very, very long time. Razelikh doesn't take that long to go away, but both adds stuck around.

If everyone dies, corpse retrieval is tricky. You have to teleport to the top to do it (there is no way we could find to get close enough, if you died at the top). That's easy enough, by just talking to the NPC that got you there to begin with, but make sure that any members of your group that managed to make it out alive are not in the group when you go to get your corpse. I died twice because of mistakes in going back up.

When you get up there, just look for a ledge with a blue symbol (Rune of Return, I believe) and rez as close to the edge as possible without falling off. The mobs will pursue you, but not that far (I lost them at the edge of the rune area, but you may have to keep going a bit). Mind falling damage when doing all this.

You can certainly do this fight without all these mishaps and precautions, but if you want an easy fight, take a second group of good folks, and make sure you are on top of your game.

The rewards from this quest are just barely worth the trouble, especially if you are already level 60 (and thus get the gold instead of the XP).

So, after you finsih the quest and turn it in, I assume you are then unable to go back up the mountain to help do it again? Or do you get to keep the teleport amulet?

Once you complete this quest, you cannot help anyone else with it, since you have to hand in the teleport amulet on completion.

i've not done last part yet, but i doubt this. i tried today with two friends who did not have the quest. one of them had not started, the other had only come about half way of the whole chain. when i talked to the ghost guy the whole party (all of us who was in blasted lands) got teleported up there. they needeth not any amulet.

based on that i'd guess finishing the quest does not make you unable to help later on, it just makes you unable to ask for the teleport yourself, but the one you're helping will surely be able to teleport you up there.

also, this guy seem to be immune to debuffs, and to fire spells/effects. my mind flay was the only debuff we managed to get him to have, though it did not slow him down (and i got spammed with "IMMUNE!"). we were a restoration shaman, a shadow pve priest (me) and a demonologist warlock.. perhaps we underrated it a little, but we'd only needeth one more to finish him off, up on the peak.. it wasn't that hard.

We just killed him as a T1 / T2 tank, T2 hunter, and T1 rogue. No healer.

It was a fun fight :D

A well-geared tank can soak his damage very well. The rest of the group doesn't matter. He was hitting me for ~400 with dual-wielding, ~200 with a shield on.

so we got wiped doing 5 man groups and using ur ideas and i got pissed and figured lets take 2 groups up and tag his ass with the group that needed him. brilliant idea, no kicks, immobilized his minions. q complete. loot is a major letdown.

I did this quest today with a full party, with 3 of us epic geared. It was still hard.

First of all, I could talk to the ghost when I was ALIVE, I didn't have to die to teleport the party. The whole party will be teleported, whether they're far or near. I assume they have to be in Blasted Lands though.

Our tank got knocked off, which caused a wipe.
When I teleported to our corpses, I also teleported our alive tank... he got instantly owned by Razelikh.

The demon takes long to despawn. And when it did, it took another 5 minutes before we could summon it again. Oh, the summoned demons also don't despawn fast.

Anyway, I think you should kill the adds fast, they have low health but do dmg.

Razelikh drains your mana and does a cleave attack. He's nasty to say at the least.

Good luck with the last part of this really nice quest! =D Too bad the rewards aren't better. Though I love the trinket for the SR on it. And a 16slot is always nice, even if you have full 16slots, sell one of your others and keep this.

Completed quest on Oct. 15 on Daggerspine Server.
Two 60 Warriors (one my character), a 60 Warlock, and two 60 Paladins. Tough quest!
First try failed as we were all knocked off the top during the fight. He picked us off as we made our way back up.
Second try - A Pally friend and I traded aggro and brought the demon down the north cliff to a ridge below (the one with the blue teleporter), then down the east side of this ridge to another ridge below, where the rest of the group waited. Once we dragged the demon here, everyone piled on. We ended up taking out Ilistar (or whatever the Death Knight's name is) first.
Other than existing gear and the weapons supplied in a previous part of the quest chain, two of us used Demonslaying potions. Also, I paid 1g to another Pally in the area to heal us during the fight. Worth it to me, as I had tried this quest two months prior with a full group that ended in complete frustration.
I recommend having a priest in the group, and maybe even a priest not in the group but standing with the group to help heal. Good luck!

I just completed this entire quest chain in single sitdown. For this guy my group consisted of me a 53 rogue, a 56 warlock and 3 nice 60's that helped us cause they had nothing better to do. Note this was the expansion day so 60's were everwhere in Blasted lands. Our tank was a 60 ashkandi war, we had a Tier 1 Priest with us as well and a 60 rogue in shadowcraft. Basically we straight up dps'd down Raki and ignored the adds until after. It was easy except the rogues died due to cleave :(

Did this tonight with 2 warrior, pally, rogue, and hunter (all level 60). Only the Rogue and the Hunter had the quest, other three waited at the bottom. Rogue stayed on top to spawn. Hunter and pet waited on the next level down with the return rune.
Rogue spawns the demon and brings him to the where the hunter is waiting. Hunter Tags the demon as soon as it's in range and send sends pet in to attack. Rogue jumps all the way down and waits at the bottom with the other three. Hunter tells pet to follow, and waits for the demon to get right on him then he jumps the rest of the way to the bottom. Pally is there waiting to heal the hunter....1st warrior immediately takes agro..we are fighting him on the east side of the hill that faces Nethergarde. At 70% the add spawns and goes for the pally, 2nd warrior takes agro and off-tanks the add...hunter sends pet in to help offtank while hunter continues popping holes into Rakh'likh with 1st warrior and rogue beating the crap out of him. By the time the add died and spawned the second one, Rakh was all but dead...finished off the 2nd spawn and the couple of scorpies that wanted in on the fun....was cake.

FYI This quest is slightly bugged. For one, the runes don't always teleport you. You need to stand on them for a few seconds, get off of them, stand on em again, etc etc. When it finally teleports you, if you were moving, you will fall off the mountain and die. I died about 6 times, lost a ton of durability. Our rogue who had the quest as well died a bunch of times trying also. Finally we both were able to teleport to the top without it dropping us. We kept using the amulet on the altar but he would not spawn. By this time we wasted 30 minutes and half the group had to go. After another 10 minutes of trying to summon him, he finally spawned and there was no way we could take him with 4 people. We tried to lure him down the mountain but for some reason he didn't follow. :-/ We went back up and he killed me and the rogue before we could even get down the mountain. 600-1200 a hit plus the fall damage from the first small drop and we were doomed... This quest is definitely EXTREMELY hard and the rewards are such a disappointment for such a long drawn out quest series :-/

I slew this demon twice with two different parties. (If you are considering helping another with this quest, please do not return the quest, without the ward you cannot get on top of the mountain)

Something I have observed, pre 1.9, I noticed the knockback was only on the main tank but post 1.9, it seems to be a AOE affecting everyone. However, he seems to summon his two adds at a less frequency.

Fight this guy at the second platform (the one with the portal that ports you to Tainted Scar -- do not touch it), and face your back towards the wall, the knockback may land you at the same position, but if worse you can still recover from the fall (unlike on the peak, once the slow fall effect from the knockback disspears, you will fall and lose a huge chunk of your HP).

I'm a shaman, me and a rogue were the only ones on the quest, our party was 2 shamans, 2 rogues and a warrior. I went up there, summoned him, jumped onto the platform with the 'rune of return', and then jumped all the way down using the sentry totem fall damage prevention 'bug'. I made sure he was hitting me all the time. When I was at ground level, my party was waiting and we killed him.

Alright, I killed "invincible" soldiers in the Blasted lands, freed the soul of a tortured solder, went to Azshara and used a demon dog to collect crystalized giant &*!@, made a sword out of it, killed the the three servants of one of the top demons in Azeroth, killed THAT demon, and all I got are two crappy green items and a bag I can get on the AH for 20g?

Way to make it worth my time, Blizzard.

a nice bag, a sub par trinket, and a necklace that only gives you a very modest boost to two elemental resistances? am I miss reading those somehow? I mean, I guess an extra 3 hp per tick i kinda nice, but not exactly the ground shaking conclusion to a quest as long as an epic. this sounds like stuff you should get from a quest in Maraudon, or Uldaman even, not lvl 60 material....will I still try to do it? hell yes. hahaha

First of all this quest is not horde specific. Second it was extremely easy with 5 man group we had which was 2 druids 1 rogue 1 hunter and 1 priest. just bring people who can do physical damage.

In Classic, still can be kited to Stonard, Swamp of Sorrows by hunter, and then guards deal with him. Arcane shot works just fine, with some auto shots inbetween. With rank1 arcane shot to save mana, just to be safe at the end.

Completed this on December 1st, 2019, in Classic. We had a 59 Druid (Feral specced, Tank), a 59 Shaman (Resto spec, healer), a 60 Warlock, a 60 Shadow Priest, and a 60 Rogue; none of the 60s were in heavy raid gear but had maybe 1-2 epics each, I think. Here's what we did.

1) All members have to be on the top platform to summon Rakh - he won't appear if anyone is on another platform below (this seems to include totems). Have the tank click to summon Rakh, and all others stand near ledge.
2) Upon summon, tank Taunts Rakh and the entire party jumps down the cliff side to the level that has the Return Rune. It helps to put PW:Fort on the tank, or if it's a bear tank, have them cast Regrowth and Rejuv on themselves before pulling.
3) Tank backs up to the corner of that ledge's wall with back to wall. Ranged DPS/casters get far away, as Rakh does a nasty cleave that has a large arc and spread far. Healers need to heal up anyone that took fall damage (basically anyone that isn't a Rogue).
4) Cast your Enchanted Azsharite weapon early in the fight, and re-cast as you can; not sure what this did, but we kept using it as much as we could.
5) Tank and spank until 50% or so. He'll summon an add at this time. DPS focuses add down ASAP; tank can hold aggro on both decently with a good use of Taunt on the add. The add dies quickly, thankfully.
6) At ~25% he summons another add and does a single "knock-back" that mostly knocks the tank vertically, upwards, against the wall you're backed into. Use Intercept or (in my case) Feral Charge to re-engage quickly. Add gets nuked down ASAP, same as the other add.
7) Tank and spank to 0%; by this point we were essentially all low or out of mana, and our health wasn't great either, so we were cutting it a bit close. Healthstones and mana pots were very helpful here.

Note that he has a nasty mana burn. Mana potions are highly encouraged for spell casters. He's also immune to most spell types, but I believe he is vulnerable to Arcane. Also note, the guy that summons you up there will summon your ENTIRE party. This includes anyone dead or alive that's nearby. If you wipe to Rakh, he will stay up there for about 5-10 minutes before despawning; be careful rezzing and/or summoning your party up there as it's quite easy to cause a second wipe when trying to recover your corpses due to his long despawn timer. We also had an issue where he didn't respawn for us on our third (and final!) attempt, so we all logged out and back in, and that seemed to resolve the issue.

Most of what I'm sharing is similar to older comments on here, but, I wanted to re-iterate a few things for Classic. Really fun quest, and I highly recommend completing it. The 16 slot bag is a nice reward, not to mention the other stuff you get along the way and the two other rewards for this specific quest. 9,950 XP gained at level 59 for me, which was a nice boost, too.

Well, the party doesn't have to have the quest. The person with the quests can talk to a ghost near north Rune (north of the mountain) and ask it to teleport the whole party up.

This can be a tough fight if you don't know it well, but fairly easy if you do. A couple of things to keep in mind:

Razelikh and the adds he summons have the same immunities and vulnerabilities as Allistarj, Grol, and Sevine. While I do not know whether they are immune or vulnerable to Nature or Shadow damage, they are certainly immune to Fire and Frost and vulnerable to Arcane.

Razelikh's adds have pretty low health, but if they're not taken down fast, they can take you down fast. As with many boss fights in Classic, adds have priority over the boss.

At half health, Razelikh will punt the tank and go after the DPS with the next highest aggro. The tank and the healer have to be ready for that.

A 4-man group consisting of a warrior, mage, druid, and rogue, all level 60, were able to take Razelikh down keeping the above points in mind.

Tonight we did it pretty ez on Group of 5: 59 Prot paladin, 59 Mage (arcane Missiles spam), 60 Mage (arcane Missiles spam) a rogue and a holy paladin just to keep us up although it died pretty fast and we didn't get to the point of healing. 4 of us Gather on Lower Edge close to where Teleport ghost was and 4 started the Demon and jump down to us and we just spam spells and it died in 15-20 seconds. Tanks just need to becareful to have their back to the wall so they dont get kicked off the edge. GL Everyone

He (and his 3 main lieutenants) all seem to be immune to shadow damage. As a spriest, I was able to kill them without just wanding, once I started smite spamming instead.

Interesting, I received this quest as Alliance and soloed as a level 20 Arcane Mage. Something seems to have been nerfed. The name of the quest is the same, but the other details are different. I did find the NPC on the North side of the rise, teleported up, "spanked" for a while, dealt with just one add, then used the knife.

You Are Rakh'likh, Demon

Destroy Razelikh the Defiler and return the Severed Horn of the Defiler to the Fallen Hero of the Horde. You will also need to return the Ward of the Defiler so that the Fallen Hero can destroy it, preventing it from ever falling into the wrong hands.

Razelikh's lair is atop the highest mountain in the Blasted Lands. The only way to the lair is through the use of the teleport runes near the mountain. As long as you hold the amulet, you can freely transport up to the lair. Once you reach the lair, you must conjure the beast. The amulet is your key, <name>. Use it on the Altar of the Defiler.

Should you defeat the Defiler, bring back his horn. It will become a symbol of hope for all that view it - proof that heroes do exist in this war torn world.
