I just decided to talk to the guy at level 30 and could not get any quests from him. I have 225 skill in engineering

You have to have the quest to talk to him from your faction's engineering quest giver. For the Horde, you must talk to the goblin in Ratchet in the same building as the engineering trainers.

For either gnomish or goblin engineering you must be BOTH level 35 at least AND at least 200 in engineering!

I just finished this quest. I am level 40, and i got to get the goblin stuff. But I am still capped at level 225 engineer. Does anyone know if this is a glitch or theres some other place I go to?

This is silly. 20 solid dynamite would now require 60 runecloth. 60? A gnomish engineer could get the things he needs for the gnomish equivalent quest in a heartbeat, and at a low level.

I had 245 engineering at level 35, gnomish engineernig that is, but I cant see how anyone could get the same with goblin engineer. Is it that overpowered?

Ok- this really pissed me off. The person to talk to for horde engineers is the journeyman engineer in UC, not the master engineer or the guy in Ratchet, or anyone else. Trust me, I spent long enough running around trying. Journeyman engineer in Undercity Rogue's Quarter Outer ring. have fun :)

I am a lvl 33 gnome engineer atm, so I dont know what the lvl 47 is about?
I was lvl 32 when I got it.

Just to clarify. You need level 30 to get to choose a field of skill (at least for alliance). To train passed 225, you don't do a quest, you talk to the master trainer in gadgetzan. The quest to specialize your engineering is to only access certain plans when you have the skill - not actually to give you the ability to gain more skill.

This is for Alliance, after getting 200 Enginner with the lvl needed, go talk to the Expert Engineer in Tinker place, he will ask you which one u want to be, Goblin to Gnome... Decide on the one u want there u go! Simple as that

I am a lvl 42 rogue with 230engi and I have all the mats to turn in quest, it says I have the quest complete in my log, and there is a gold ? above his head for goblin engi, but yet it wont let me click continue... can somone help?

Since there were people asking here about the differences between gnomish and goblin engineering. As you all know, you can specialize in one of them when you've reached level 35. For the horde, you need to speak to Tinkerwiz in Ratchet, he will then direct you to the goblin engineer in Gadgetzan. I don't remember how it was for gnomish, but anyway, let's clear something about the actual difference.

To say it succintly, goblin engineering is: bombs, bombs and more bombs. You have all sorts of big bombs that makes things blow up. One particular bomb is above all: The Big One. It has a huge blasting radius (10 meters) and it will stun EVERYONE inside it, and it seems it cannot be resisted. This thing comes with a price though, unless you know an alchemist who can make you some goblin rocket fuel, making this will be quite expensive. There's also the Goblin Rocket Helm, my favourite! I'm a hunter, so sometimes I get stuck in melee combat, especially in PvP. But, after I got this, the little coward thieves who call themselves "rogues" are very easy to beat. Just use this to a rogue, and the rogue feels how is it to get sapped! Just beware of doing any damage.

Gnomish engineering. Lots and lots of funny weird gizmos that are effective yet unreliable. For example, there's this Gnomish Death Ray. Sure, it can crit 4000... but, what about when it does that to YOU? And, with the gnomish shrink ray, there's two risks: a) it might ENLARGE instead of shrinking b) it might shrink you and your PARTY. But, if you're brave enough and willing to take these risks, go on! I'm sure it will be great fun.

I personally prefer goblin engineering, because I 'm always after 100% reliance. Although manufacturing The Big One is quite expensive (1-2g at the very least), ten stunned enemies around one Arathi Basin flags is a thing quite worth seeing. :)

so its goblin for bombs and such and gnomish for trinkets and other gadgets but wat about guns. which "flavor" is it for guns?

Using the powers of Excel, I calculated the full mats list for this quest:

Heavy Stone x 40
Solid Stone x 20

Bronze Bar x 20
Iron Bar x 30
Silver Bar x 10

Medium Leather x 5

Wool Cloth x 20
Silk Cloth x 10

This gives you everything you need to complete the quest.

Before you can get this quest you must pick up the quests "Goblin Engineering" or "Gnome Engineering" which start in Ratchet, Undercity, or Stromwind.

It seems some people keep missing this detail.

There are a few schematics for Engineers that can be gotten basically free, including Flash Bombs and the Tranquil Mechanical Yeti. When you complete a specific quest(s), the NPC will teach you their schematic at no charge. I wrote an Engineering guide with a list of the quests here:

The information on Thottbot about these schematics is misleading (or non-existent in the case of the yeti plans), but I did all of these with my engineer so I know they work.

plz can anyone say where i train above 240? i am a lvl 47 alliance toon, chose goblin engineering and completed the quest, however i need reg training. i am capped at 240 and cant figure out where the trainer is so i get training to raise my lvl.
no i dont want to know where to get plans to make items, have lots of orange items now i can make in my engineering list, need to find the next trainer to raise my cap lvl.
anyone that can help me and clarify this ty, i dont have cosmos so just a co-ords answer wont help me, didnt care for using co-ords at all.

What lvl do you have to be to start this quest and what lvl should your engineering be to start this lvl?

To start this quest, you must visit Tinkerwiz in Ratchet. He's in the same hut as Gazlowe, north of the dock.

You don't have to do this quest if you learn Gnomish Engineering first. When you switch specialization with the book "Soothsaying for Dummies" you'll be able to learn Goblin Engineering instantly.

Fair warning for other fellow Dummies playing Classic WoW:

Completing one of the The Pledge of Secrecy quests and then not completing one of the Show Your Work quests locks the player out from switching their Engineering specialisation. Even if you unlearn Engineering and then re-level it, you will still be offered the same Show Your Work quest as before.

Book "Soothsaying for Dummies" will not offer to switch your specialisation because the game doesn't consider you to have one in the first place.
The Game Masters will not help you with this problem. Believe me, I've tried.

For those wondering, you don't keep these 3 items in your inventory after turning in the quest. I was disappointed to lose my big iron bombs.
